  • Rick has essential tremor, a benign tremor that commonly affects one's hands. He has suffered all his life with tremors that leave him embarrassed in public and unable to complete everyday tasks. After undergoing focused ultrasound treatment, his hands are still for the first time in his life.

Hi This is Rick and this is my story. After almost 11 months after my treatment with Focused Ultrasound I am still doing great!!!! A couple of months ago I was able to do something I would have never been able to do before my treatment, install a new screen in a lap top!!!!! I am soooooooooo very thankful to everyone at the University of Maryland Medical Center and the Focused Ultrasound Foundation for this wonderful gift of being able to hold my right hand steady for the first time in my life!!!!

Congratulations on your recovery! I wonder if you would know if this treatment can be applicable to Alzheimer's patients with tremors.

Does the brace used for the procedure not require a kind of incision/bolt in order to hold the steadying appliance in place?

I have 43 years of living experience with ET (from birth) and I've cancelled my DBS operation when I was 30.
I Google new treatments for ET and found my way to you.
I cried I few times watching you and your lovely wife share your personal struggles, feelings, thoughts from someone who has lived a long life my dealing with tremors and other people not understanding.
Now I'm going to the Neurologist very soon :)
    Thank you again.

I’ve had this condition since childhood. Rick nails it when he says that people ask “why are you shaking?” Or “Just relax!” It makes it worse. I’m researching this at the moment. Thank you, Rick!

That is so amazing Rick!! I actually teared up for your results and so happy that you finally felt that “relief”. This is truly a miracle!! I can only imagine how the ability is to hold your hands steady! My question though is did you have head, legs and voice tremors along with your
hands? To be able to write again with my children, eat soup without looking like a child, to eat in public again, etc. And your right all those questions, are you cold or what are you nervous about… I am a single mother of 3 that deals with this every day. May I ask where you started to go through the procedure?

IT CHANGED MY HUSBANDS LFE. He had the HIFU - High Intensity Focused Ultrasound on his brain to burn the area causing his Parkinsons tremors. It not only helped his tremors but his cognitive, feeling of falling forward, does not drag his leg and his arm moves again. IF YOU HAVE PARKINSONS LOOK INTO IT. I have my husband back and while it does not cure Parkinsons it has enabled him to get back to a normal life.

I have had essential tremor for over 20 years...not in my hands but my head shakes now though I was unaware that essential tremor can affect your voice box and has strongly affected my speech....this has been a real problem as a lot of people don't have the patients to hear me out...and so I am looking for how this can be addressed. I am going to another doctor soon to see what might be available.....

Great news everyone, and for everyone with ET!!
I just complemented Focused Ultrasound for tremor to my left hand and it was very successful!! Along with the treatment to my right hand 5 years ago, I now have tremor free use of my hands for the first time in my life!!!! I am privileged be only the 6th person to have the treatment on both sides. God bless you Dr Howard Eisenberg, Charlene Aldrich, Insighttec and the staff of the university of Maryland Medical Center!!!
I feel soooooooooooo lucky and blessed!!! IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO CONTACT ME, MY EMAIL IS ... TRINNJ@YAHOO.COM

I have the money but i read one of my daughters books "how not to give a f#ck about anything(sarah knight)" and, well, the book worked. My shakes dont bother me at all anymore. They havent really got worse in 30 years. If its not broke, dont fix it as they say..... Xanax, magnesium help me if im out in pub etc. Never really notice my shakes bar that. Could be alot worse. Ill have another think in 5/10 years. Cheers for reply Champ.🙂
