I found this while trespassing on a secret courtyard

- (with subtitle) I visited a private courtyard at a 1870 Italianate house, so well hidden in the oldest part of the city, I couldn't help but felt like a trespasser. Through a narrow passageway, I was transported into a different world - I found a secret outdoor living space, filled with exquisite garden art, colorful blossoms and a few surprises. This is the garden of Elizabeth Licata and Alan Bigelow, featured on Garden Walk Buffalo and Open Gardens.
(Upstate New York. USDA Cold hardiness Zone 6)(Filmed in August 2023)
I am Jay, I ask strangers if I can see their gardens. New video on Fridays. This video is part of the " Can I see your garden? " series:

Walking through a garden like this is therapy for the heart, soul and mind….
Thanks, cheers!
Very nice little garden. I love the fact that each house owner takes care the side walk to make the streets as the neighborhood prettier and friendlier!
Thank you. I love it because it also builds a sense of community, in addition to the beautification!
Well, I'm pretty sure, by city law, you have to maintain the easement. Their's is beautiful.

Beautiful! I wish more people would take interest in beautifying the sidewalk.
I think my HOA would object but it is beautiful.
I wish, when beautifying the roadway/sidewalk, All people would at least respect it if they can’t appreciate it. It is a Peony. Not a Pee on Me! Ask -most gardeners will share a cutting if the plant is well established( and even give propagation tips). Flowers and unusual foliage might look good in your vase, but they were meant for the whole neighborhood to enjoy… Do to this and pure theft and vandalism, I’m ready to take all my plants to the back yard again.
This one is a my kind of garden which epitomes a certain kind of nature with love and respect.
Stunning❤❤❤
Great point to have time to actually enjoy the garden. Alot of people dont do this.
Jay, I love this garden, and I love the way you narrate! You have such a wonderful way to express your love of nature!
Shirley, I really appreciate it. English is my second language, sometime I struggle a little bit, but I am proud that I can communicate with more people this way. And people I met have always been very kind even if I said the wrong word or in the wrong way.
What a wonderful surprise, to tour this colorful garden on a gray winter morning! So many unique and quirky touches throughout along with beautiful and interesting plants. Thanks to the homeowners for sharing and to you Jay for making great garden videos !
Your message really warms my heart. Come to visit us!
@@WhispersInTheGarden It is on my bucket list ☺
Beautiful garden! ❤
Spectacular! Very inspiring and I would imagine, your neighbors are quite thankful that they can look out upon your paradise! God bless.
Thank you. So many exceptional gardens, I wish more people get the chance to visit and experience them.
That's a great way to help beautification of the neighborhood, and hopefully it will catch on to the other neighborhood, the local news station should show this off and encourage others to create plants, trees and flowers to their streets and neighborhoods.
It is quite popular in our area, I will try to film more hell strip gardens. My first video also shows one spectacular hell strip garden at the end of video: th-cam.com/video/omdbYmxp7Ao/w-d-xo.html

Beautiful. It's a premier gardener that can create a mostly lush, shade garden. Exquisite.
Yes, one of my favourite garden. Elizabeth is also a publish garden writer!
I read Elizabeth's posts on the GardenRant blog. SO excited to get a tour of her garden! What a treat 🙂

Another lovely garden, Jay. Will need to watch again. Thanks for the break from winter.
Thanks Peggy. This is a garden that I want to revisit. We will have a few days in the 60s the coming week, this winter feels short!

Beautiful Garden!!!!! Amazing!!!!!
Amazing garden, aesthetic art...❤
Stunning. I hope they add more native plants as time goes by. Natives are better for the insect life.
Love this garden and love the humor 😂
Thank you, cheers!
Very beautifully done, I love to garden so relaxing! Gods plants are amazing!
In 2017, I was a part of the GWI conference in Buffalo, NY. I think your garden was on a tour we made.
Amazing, what's chance of clicking on a random video and revisiting a garden you have been too! I believe you are correct! It is one of gardens they toured during the conference.
I recognized a few spots in your garden. Thank you for your reply and confirmation.
A gorgeous garden. I did subscribe. Love how full this garden is.❤️
Thank you!
Loved the mural. Beautifully done and extending the garden. Just goes to show what you can do with a shady area, the right plants make it so lush.
It was a magical experience to visit this garden, cheers!

@@WhispersInTheGarden you're welcome...
What a lovely garden! I wish I could visit more beautiful private gardens like you! 🌸
Thanks, cheers!
I lived on an alley with a fence that had a large peace rose that grew over it. I was in the kitchen one day and saw a couple walking down the alley. The women went up to the fence and I was wondering what she was doing. She then grabbed hold of one of the big fat roses hanging over on her side and took a deep whiff of the scent and had a smile on her face. This is what we gardeners love to see.
What a beautiful moment, thank you for sharing!
Stunning hostas- everything healthy and lush… what a beautiful street…I can’t have hostas in backyard😢 because of pets and front yard too sunny
Thank you! I think there are varieties which will be happy in full sun.
I have grass growing in my shade garden. I also have a 4 season garden. It took me awhile to get it but snowcapped evergreens look so beautiful in the winter.
Yes, evergreens are important for the colder month!
Just watched again, Jay from the comfort of my own couch as I watched the first time during an out of town trip. I must say this is beautifully narrated, and the piano notes add to the serene charm. Well done!
Thank you for your constant support, Peggy!
I simply love this wild garden
Thanks, cheers!
That tall, yellow plant is Kerria (used to be called batchelor's buttons where I grew up in a little village in UK).
You can come to see my garden anytime! You're a very kind and appreciative person.
Oh, thank you, hopefully one day I can see your garden, I would love to hear more!
What a stunning garden, I absolutely love it! It looks so lush and colorful. I would like to know the name color of the wall, I really love it. You did an amazing job with this video Jay! This is the first time a visit your channel and I am for sure subscribing.
Very kind of you, cheers!
Stunning 🎉🎉
Hi, Jay. Love this video. Please consider a dedicated video on hellstrip gardening.
Good idea, thanks for the suggestion!
Đẹp quá
It's beautiful. I only wish it was filled with native plants.
This lovely garden tour landed you a new sub! In the Upper Midwest, we call the space between the street and sidewalk, a boulevard garden. I love your poetic imagery as you walk through the couple's garden. Is the blue plant at 6:17 Johnson's Blue geranium? I love the artistic panels hiding the generator. How clever! I don't know why, but the owners, Elizabeth and Alan look very familiar to me. Has their inner city garden been showcased elsewhere? Thanks for the garden tour. Immensely enjoyed it!
Thank you! I don't think that is Johnson's Blue geranium in the pot, it might be some type of annuals. Elizabeth is a writer, and she is part of gardenrant.com/ . I think it is possible their garden was featured in magazines.
@@WhispersInTheGarden Thanks for the link.
I love the golden glow rudbeckia. We used to call it sh*thouse daisy because old timers used to plant it by their out houses.
Haha, I guess it is the same idea with the hollyhocks!
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I always love your tours Jay! Is there a way to turn off the subtitles? I've never found them necessary in you delightful and captivating videos.
Thanks for the feedback! You can turn off subtitles by clicking the ‘CC’ button, it is on the upper right corner(on phone) or lower right corner(on computer), I keep subtitles for people who needs it and to show plant names.
Such a beautiful garden. (Except, IMHO, the creepy body parts. Especially the big gash of a wound in the torso. But that'sjust me, I like to see pretty)
We need to plant more trees every where, plantas with flowers also for animals to have house and food, like birds, etc.
Absolutely, trees achor the garden and provide habitat.
Thanks for a charming video! As a fellow owner of a small YT channel (and passionate gardener), I also want to congratulate you on achieving 66k views in 8 days. Wow! Can you share some tips on how you accomplished that? Wishing you continued success!
Thank you! I guess more people relate to the topics in this particular video.
Trespassing means stay out
We call the strip between the street and sidewalk the parkway.
The warm colour of the wall sets off the green foliage beautifully. Does anyone know what that colour is called?
Maybe 'Rusty Red' rgb(210,80,69)?
@@WhispersInTheGarden Thank you, I will check this out.
I liked everything except for the creepy torso sculpture.
Beautiful garden. Where did you get the terra-cotta Potts that are suspended on the fence via a hook?
Thank you! I think they are plastic nursery pots in the terra-cotta color!
Dude, music is a bit repettitive and too loud. Focus on your content not background music. Otherwise great vid, yer got my sub for now.
Thanks for the feedback!
I wish I could find the large blue hosta shown here….
Have you heard of the Hosta Forum of WNY, they have the experts on hosta: www.wnyhosta.com/2023-fall-hosta-forum
Nice it look that there is not dogs around the neighborhood to pee the plant 🪴
