    This is not drugstore, but that slip feeling you're talking about, I get that from the Wella Oil Reflections range, since your hair is much thicker than mine I would recommend the mask instead of conditioner. But seriously, it's the one range that I know will give me that feeling 100% of the time.

    I have been a hairstylist for years and you have just contradicted everything I have known to be true! Not just what we learned in school but in my experience. The protein thing I can 100% UN-debunk bcuz I was using nothing but protein shampoos after frying my hair with bleach but it kept getting more and more brittle. Over the next year. I couldn’t understand what I was doing wrong 😑 I was following all the rules! So I started researching it and all the videos I came across said I’m overdoing it with the protein and it can have the reverse effect if you use it too much. Even an Olaplex webinar suggested that. So I switched to moisture rich products and almost instantly saw a huge difference in my hair. Now I just have to keep a balance between the two. I think there isn’t one cookie cutter rule for each hair type tho. There are always so many variables. The second one is the air drying. I have never before heard that it can be bad to NOT put heat on your hair. I air dry quite often on wash days and then run the blow dryer through my roots for some volume and then straighten or curl which is a lot less heat than blasting the cuticle wide open when it’s wet and vulnerable. All that aside, I really like your Channel and your vibe and I’ve subscribed. This is what we are here for, to educate and learn from each other!

      I'm not professional but protein it depends on how strong it is and what your porosity is.
      Air drying could be bad for people with oily or flakey scalp bc the longer it takes to dry the more playtime the "bacteria" gets to multiple.There are some studies to support it.Its basically what you're doing with the volume drying

    In addition to your tips I have been using a sleepy tie to maintain my blowout with Ahuhu styling dry shampoo called boost it, a leave in conditioner, and a wet brush for detangling and distributing styling products after washing. My hair has never been better. Great tips and great video!

    I feel like some of these dont apply to curly hair, like brushing your hair daily with a boar bristtle brush, or never having wet hair, when you can only style curly wavy hair wet. Also what shampoo would you recommend if your hair is curly, with highlights, would it need more moisture or protein?

    You have amazing hair, but I disagree with many of your tips, however, I understand that your hair is bleached and the products you recommend may your hair look better.
    First, Pureology is full of silicones, you don't need silicones, that’s why people keep complaining about itchy scalps and frequent hair washing, I was the kind of person who needed to wash the hair almost every day, and when I started using products without silicone I could go for a wash once a week, but gotta be honest and say that during this process my scalp entered in catharsis, so I have to use DHS Zinc shampoo for the itchy scalp and it immediately stabilized my scalp, I still use it once per month.
    About the hair dryer debunked theory, I think that kind of appliance is becoming obsolete and the industry is trying to survive 😅

      Omg I LOVE Amal oil passionately, I have done for years I genuinely love it so much and think it helps with everything! It makes ur hair feel really soft and shiny as soon as u put it on and unlike most oils I feel like I can leave it in for ages and don’t have to worry about it snapping my hair at all :)

      Thanks so much for the helpful advice. Really appreciate it. Would you recommend I only use the oil on my scalp or could I just put it all over and leave it in to soak into my hair until I wash my hair after 2 hours of having the oil in my hair? x@@Rachelmckeown

    I think the protein overload comes with using too much straight up protein treatments. It has happened to me, when the hair becomes too hard and stiff and if continued use could break. Easily remedied though, easily recognizable. Also the research done with air drying is worse than heat drying is flawed to say the least. If you wash your hair every day and it takes all day to dry then yes that can be problematic but washing your hair every few days and you are allowing your hair to fully dry then using heat is more damaging. People took that one research paper and rannnnn with it like it’s gospel now. Amazing. That’s a myth I’m waiting for someone to debunk so I don’t have to comment anymore.

    I can't use protein at all in my hair. Recently switched to color wow products and I bought their strengthening cocktail. My hair was like straw, I'll stick to the hydrating one. I have bleached hair as well, protein has never been my hairs friend

    Is it normal to have grey hair at 25? I have many in the Front of my hair and Brown level 5 hair… and I am so Sick of dyeing it :/

    • @Rachelmckeown
      @Rachelmckeown  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeahh it's really normal at any age, particularly around the hairline that's very common, maybe you could ask your hairdresser for a really low maintenance natural balayage with a few extra highlights around the hairline, this will blench the greys into the blonde at the front of your head and you might be able to go a bit longer in-between hair dyes? Other than that I can't think of any other suggestions

    Hi Rachel. Gread video and great tips. I trained and qualified as a hairdresser 20 years ago (omg I'm so old), but never worked as one. I use pretty much use all of your tips, even the Pureology Strength Cure range, which I thought was so weird. My only issue is psoriasis related hairl oss. I've had psoriasis since I was a teenager and used to use all the steroid ointments prescribed by Dr's back in the day, but I haven't used them since my late 20's coz we figured out that they were really bad for the skin. Needless to say my psoriasis has been quite bad ever since and is worst on my scalp. I've tried everything over the years, and I mean everything, especially since the invention of the internet, but it's still quite bad on my scalp. Dr's are bloody useless and just don't give a sh*t, dermatologists are no better. I've got very long, naturally wavy, dark blonde hair that I keep in good condition using pretty much all of your suggestions. I balayage it myself with 10, 20 and 30 vol, increasing the strength as I'm foiling around my head, then I use only conditioning toners. So, it's in pretty good nick. The only problem is it's becoming so thin, which is devastating after having thick hair like yours for the majority of my life. As a working hairdresser, do you have any advice please? I take all Derm recommended hair supplements and I even use an LED scalp thing, but the psoriasis is just so stubborn that my hair falls out as the plaques are released from my scalp (I never pick them off). Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much. Love your videos. Anna x

      PS - Having a dry scalp means I only have to wash my hair once a week and my styling routine is a rough blow dry then the Revlon One Step using heat protection of course. Although I do sometimes leave it naturally wavy too.

    • @TracyD2
      @TracyD2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@The_Viking_HighlanderResearchers say psoriasis and the like stem from your gut. Try a good probiotic prebiotic digestive enzyme supplement. I have scalp psoriasis and for the most part can keep it at bay. You might also want to check for food allergies. I also incorporate tea rinses. Oregon grape herb externally is supposed to help psoriasis. There is an actual study out there. But yeah I recommend to try more natural things. I do have dark hair so I don’t know about the herbs staining. They shouldn’t but I really don’t know about some of them. Only once in a great while when I feel my scalp starting to flare up bad I’ll put the medication on it. Also I’ll put like scalpicin on before I dye my hair as a precaution.

    This video is so helpful, thank you! Do you have any tips on how to keep your hair helpful when swimming? I find that so difficult 🙈

    • @clairegresswell
      @clairegresswell ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I swim & use TRIHARD before & after my sessions. Paul Mitchell also does a really good one. Neither are cheap, I'm afraid, but my advice is to shop around. Also (& honesty I don't do this for every swim even though I should), use a swimcap. 😊

    • @sophieromanca
      @sophieromanca ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@clairegresswell ooh thank you so much, I'll look into those!! And yeah I didn't even think about the swimcap but that's a very good tip actually!

      @clairegresswell ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @sophieromanca You're welcome. Also, I would say you do get what you pay for - I went for the lower price brands initially but my hair wasn't being protected. I have very thick, long hair & it grows very well (too well) & my Hairdresser says it's in good condition so I figure the chlorine isn't doing too much damage with the precautions I'm taking. I hope you find something that works for you. Happy shopping😉
