I have the LS002 and I absolutely love that saw. I do sometimes think about getting this one, but I very rarely need to make cuts that big, and when I do I’m fine using my table saw or a circ saw. Nonetheless, both of these 40v saws are absolutely amazing. I also had to adjust mine straight out of the box. It’s wasnt even close to square, which bugged me a lot as well. Investing that much money into a tool, brings a level of expectation and excitement which Makita immediately shat on by giving me a tool that I needed to adjust before I could cut anything. I have the same experience as you though, since the adjustment it has cut straight ever since and I love the saw. There’s also a lot of people complaining their fences aren’t straight, which can not be adjusted. Luckily mine didn’t have that problem.
Dude when you said you get miter saw withdrawals and have to make cuts at 10 pm I laughed. I was in the shop late last night just moving stuff so I could use my impact driver and drill. Good video man.

The unanswered question is has Makita addressed the curved cut problem or is it a lottery if you buy one of these very expensive saws? If the problem hasn't been addressed in manufacturing and it's a lottery if your saw is bad out of the box, this is unacceptable. As you say this is a flagship tool. It shouldn't suffer significant issues carried down from older models.
No load speeds are +/- 10% usually. Slower speed will be offset by the larger blade, it will keep the tip speed the same/within spec. I must admitt I've been talking to a few tradesmen that have been complaining about makita mitre saws being shit the last couple of months, pretty bad not cutting straight, like mitre saw 101. Peroanlly not had any issues with the makita mitres I've had my hands on. Thanks for the review Regarding the model being the old one updated for 40V batteries and not the new design of the 216 that will be down to the cost I would imagine To make tooling for a saw that size you'll be upwards of half a million dollars I would imagine for good quality tools, and that's one set, I would guess Makita probably have multiple sets for production capacity, not to mention the design and development time and cost, prototyping, testing costs, certification costs, marketing, ect ect. You're talking millions of dollars of investment for a single saw, add to that the 10" and you're doubling it give or take. An update to an exsiting design drastically reduces those costs down. Shame though as the 216 is one of, if not the nicest mitre saw I've had through the office. And it doesn't weigh as much as the sun like the 260. From a power tool designer* One thing that has always pissed me off about makita 2x18V tools, and it blows my mind why they do it. Battery indicators on the tool have 3 bars, batteries have 4. Why makita? WHHYYYYY
Bought 10 inch corded Makita Bevel saw 6 months ago in the winter just started to use it now with some practice and understanding will clamp small pieces of timber instead of a piece fling out just like your video demonstration twice. The saw is still accurate checked it yesterday. It's a dangerous bit of kit but I will have to concentrate and use it with due respect. Your video was very helpful though I was aware with most of the features as I am learning as I go along. A diy'er from England.

Great review, but you should also review the smaller japanese only saws. Like the LS001G the 08 and 09, their great little saws and more people should know about them so we can get them in the states and other countries.
Spooky watching this .. I bought this saw a year and a half ago myself, along with the cordless vac, the stand and also a monster aluminium third party stand. I haven't even put the blade in it yet ;( There was a Makita promo and I got a bunch of other stuff. Watching you clean with the cordless blower reminded me that I ordered that little blower and got the bloody garden blower in its place. This is to be an outdoor workhorse that I'll get round to using instead of the KAPEX.
As I don't live 5 minutes away from a Makita service centre, it makes me wonder if it's worth forking out the money if it's not guaranteed of cutting straight?
As a jobbing carpenter in Wellington, you'd have to be mad to lug one of these around this city. I'm Dewalt 10 inch all the way but the front slide bars has me tempted every year.
I do like blue tools, i think i will go with Bosch GCM 350-254, 10" blade, still cuts 100 x 250mm material (Max 60 x 350mm), its half of the size of their 12" mitre saw . Bosch GCM 12 GDL is 50% heavier, needs twice the space and max cut 104 x 341mm, that size beams people tend to order precut.
260mm 40v I had similar issues, not cutting a circle but cutting out of square. Had to send it back for calibration. Wasn't impressed with the out of box. I do love the saw at the end of the day
Great review and recommendation. It is a shame for the buyer that getting a straight cutting saw is somewhat of a lottery. Did you get any feedback from makita why some cut curved?
Please be more careful and don't put your hand so close to the blade. I know you're a professional and done thousands of cuts but it only takes one wrong cut out of 100000 and you loose your hand. Love your videos and hope you get the number of subscribers you deserve.
Hi I love these reviews and keeps their product honest. I just bought the 10-1/4 inch Version of this, when I start the saw the machine vibrates, could this be due to the saw blade not balanced well?
I thought bigger discs need to run at slower rpm to maintain the same speed at the outer edge of the blade? Can’t be arsed looking up if I’m correct about this so let me know if you work it out. Cheers.
Not sure why they don't just ship them with full depth 45 cuts through the back fence. The apprentice will take care of it on day one and have a little panic attack anyway.

Had the 36 volt for 2 years never missed a beat i also have 18 batteries and it just isn't worth swapping i don't think...what do you think about milwalki as a hole been using makita 30 years and love it but having the young lads on site's try telling me to swap to milwalkie...like hell.
Big old beast -- Have you got that right! I have their "small" slide saw (2x18, 10", no laser / shadow), and I can relate. Large, heavy, unbalanced, a real wrestling match to mount dismount from their (sawhorse) stand. Then, once you have it all together, it's a real hunt to find all the various locking knobs and buttons. A bit off review -- the sawhorse stand is likewise a bit of a dance to fold and unfold, and the stand / saw package is unstable as can be when folded for transport. All that said . . . once up and running it's a real dream to use. Spot-on square and true, incredibly smooth to operate, amazingly quiet. (My former cheap chop saw screamed like a banshee while making a cut). Actually easy to adjust to the various settings, with scales that are very easy to read as you adjust the settings. Cuts are smooth as silk, and the only chips (tear-out) I find are in my lunch pail. Most of the things I'd fix are actually part of the stand, not the saw itself. The saw itself really only lacks a comfortable carry handle located in a proper balance point. Even with the extensive use of aluminum, there is some weight here. This is made to feel worse in that it's so unbalanced, no matter where you grab it to carry. Once set up -- even on the sawhorse stand -- it's rock solid. Overall, I have zero regrets and no desire to replace it. Everything is solidly built, so I don't anticipate having even the little things (like handles or wheels) breaking. My area is somewhat corrosive (high heat & humidity) yet the rails must be heavily chromed -- I've seen no indication of either pitting or any "lubrication" drying out.
I managed to fit 140mm blade 50mm depth cuts needed to extend blade guard for safety, I made parallel guide longe now I can cut 100mm strips with original you can't used 8 mm treaded rod and strip of maple made fit in the box, may favour saw I have 4 them 😀
I splurged on the 8-1/2" 40V saw and I'm a little surprised that the design isn't the same as the 12" one. Like on mine the bevel knob is next to the miter knob and they are in-line. Mine also has a different two dust port design. So does that mean the 8-1/2" is newer than the 10"/12" or vice versa?
I have a Makita ls1219 l saw blade 12 inch. arbor 30mm . there is a 16 mm to 30mm adapter ring. and I want to buy a Diablo 12 inch 80 blade and they all come with a 1" hole what should I do? Can you help me please
I upgraded my dls111 detent plate with a stene s/s one but I wonder if the xgt would fit instead? There is actually a thin piece of steel under the detent plate on the aluminium one. Could be the same on the xgt.
I’ve had this saw for a few months now and only just made a long cut a few days ago and found that it wasn’t straight too! Great video mate great information 👍🏻 have to sus were I can get it fixed or looked at
the problem is that the saw's weight hang on the right side of the rails. It's fine when the saw is all the way back. When you pull the saw all the way forward, the saw will deflect the rails, causing a curved cut. The fix is to loosen the allen screws at the front, place a stick between the rails, twist them to the left to preload them, and retighten the screws.
I am a makita guy but not this tool My 36 volt saw could not be adjusted square ether but it was worse than that the fence and the upper fence were not 90 degree vertical to the table top waaay way out 🤬sold it sad because I really wanted to like the saw bought a festool kapex happy now except for what cost 🤨
@@riba2233 So, the manufacturers are ignoring the mains powered tools in favor of battery powered tools. Which, of course, allows them to sell more expensive and proprietary batteries to lock in their customers. Even if the tool is unlikely to ever operate portable. Particularly tools that are bolted to a shop bench.
@@BobCollins42 well it is what it is, mitre saws are fairly specific example but there obviously is a huge market for battery powered ones, some people work on the field and they need them. Manufacturers should introduce new tech like brushless motors to corded tools, I agree. Hikoki has started doing that with some grinders already.
Between the not cutting straight and the none sliding fences. il be sticking with dewalt for my chop saw needs. but happy too see a shadow line over a lazer line. can’t beat a shadow for accuracy. self adjusts with whatever blade you have on the saw too 👌🏻
I got similar problem on my LS002G. But it was slightly different. The blade was not in line with the rails and it was impossible to fix. I called makita, they sent courier picked it up, and after two weeks dropped it back exactly the same. Ohhh, I was angry as fuck, especially as I sold my old LS1019 which was beautifully percise. I shot a video comparison with 150$ saw which was way more accurate in cutting and bursted into triad on the phone of their official. After that they took it once again and one week later I got a new one. It is still not perfect, but waaaay better than the first one. Since my miter saw doesn't have permanent place - I stick with my little ls002g, but in future I'll get this biggo!
I’ve invested in the Makita 40 volt gear in the last year or so and I’m a bit over having them go in for repairs. To be honest I’m not hard on my gear either as half of my original 18 volt gear is still working fine and 12+ years old. Just tonight the LED light I’ve had for 6 months and only used a handful of times stopped working. I’m truly sick of Makita and I’ve been loyal since forever. Quality has dropped immensely. Maybe I go back to 18 volt hmmmmmmm
Interesting. I have to say that pretty much all of their more recent mitre saws, corded and battery, that I see second hand on TM, have rusted guide rails. Just an observation.
Great review! I had issues with the eight and a half mitre saw. It cut straight ok but when I was doing bevel cuts it would not cut at 90° even though the saw was set to 0. It turned out the reels were nowhere near parallel to the base. I'm just over the past 2 weeks I got the 40 volt jigsaw. It would not cut straight. Return that one and got another one and it was just as bad. Decided to give up on the jigsaw and have went for the 12 volt Milwaukee. Clearly, there is a big quality control problem in the Chinese factories that these tools are made. Definitely not good enough.

that weight is far to much, its definitely a shop saw, far to heavy to be in and out of the van onsite. got dewalt 305 at the fielddays and its about 21kg, can lift it with one hand.
Yes and no. What I was comparing to in this video was the speed of the 18x2 12" which is 4400, the XGT is 3600 and the AC version is 3200. So it seems the tool is able to cut slower with higher, more reliable voltage.

Festool mechanism is better , it has those slide bars on opposite side of the saw and the trigger handle inline with the blade , but double the price.

I think you've got to really need one of these to make the jump. For me they are just too big and heavy.
There is actually very little an average carpenter/builder can't do with a 216mm mitre saw, as long as it cuts around 50mm tipped over at 45 degrees.

Is your dust collector battery powered also?
better motors, brakes, more quiet and efficient, can't take them with you to work somewhere else, etc etc

I’ve invested in the Makita 40 volt gear in the last year or so and I’m a bit over having them go in for repairs. To be honest I’m not hard on my gear either as half of my original 18 volt gear is still working fine and 12+ years old. Just tonight the LED light I’ve had for 6 months and only used a handful of times stopped working. I’m truly sick of Makita and I’ve been loyal since forever. Quality has dropped immensely. Maybe I go back to 18 volt hmmmmmmm
Interesting. I have to say that pretty much all of their more recent mitre saws, corded and battery, that I see second hand on TM, have rusted guide rails. Just an observation.
Great review! I had issues with the eight and a half mitre saw. It cut straight ok but when I was doing bevel cuts it would not cut at 90° even though the saw was set to 0. It turned out the reels were nowhere near parallel to the base. I'm just over the past 2 weeks I got the 40 volt jigsaw. It would not cut straight. Return that one and got another one and it was just as bad. Decided to give up on the jigsaw and have went for the 12 volt Milwaukee. Clearly, there is a big quality control problem in the Chinese factories that these tools are made. Definitely not good enough.
To be fair, I don't think I have ever seen a jigsaw cut straight.

that weight is far to much, its definitely a shop saw, far to heavy to be in and out of the van onsite. got dewalt 305 at the fielddays and its about 21kg, can lift it with one hand.
The Dewalt SW780 is 25.5 kg. Still far too heavy.

Bigger blades always run lower RPM to keep the speed at the edge the same.
Yes and no. What I was comparing to in this video was the speed of the 18x2 12" which is 4400, the XGT is 3600 and the AC version is 3200. So it seems the tool is able to cut slower with higher, more reliable voltage.
And the AC and XGT saws can maintain their speed better under load than the 18v x2
