Solution for anyone stuck with replacing the auxiliary battery: Our 2017 Next Gen Compass Limited (same as 2018) wouldn’t start and I couldn’t even get an OBD code. Horns and lights worked since they’re connected to the main battery but it wouldn’t crank. This issues was solved by replacing the auxiliary battery (AUX 14 400 200 CCA). The dealership wanted $250 (shocker) so I just bought the battery myself. It is available for $100-$115 depending on the store and there is no core charge. It took about 20 minutes in all to swap it out. You'll need 13 mm deep socket to remove the hold down bracket, 10 mm for the others. You will also need a 4mm to remove the old battery's posts. Don't chuck the dead battery before adding the posts to the new battery. Remember to remove the negative on the main battery and try to avoid metal contact on all the posts while you're working, to avoid any sparks. Evidently, when you deactivate the auto start/stop frequently like we've done the past 3 years, the battery doesn't have an opportunity to get charged by the alternator and eventually fails. This also affected our remote start in the wintertime. Hope this helps others. Good luck!
Thank you for that info on the auto start/stop feature. My wife disabled hers and she’s had problems ever since, it never occurred to me that could be the issue.
Had the exact same issue, sudden no crank. It was my auto start/stop function that basically drained the battery. I'm sure all of us turn that off when we drive, its annoying, but I was getting a message that that function stopped working and needed service. I ignored for a while thinking yea I don't need to turn it off, but actually the battery took the full load and eventually died. A jump start and a 15 min drive will usually fix that, but its going in on Monday to have that function fixed... it happened again yesterday!
Same thing so I got the starter changed according to the mechanic and it worked 2 days than it died again now nothing works completely dead so frustrating only have 48,000 miles on it
I had this issue a couple months back and it turned out my batteries needed replacing. $600.00. About 3 months after, it stopped starting again. Just clicks. I hate that auto stop feature. I puts unneeded wear on the starter motor. Which I suspect is the reason it wont start, or a relay issue. This is very frustrating. It is sitting in my driveway until the 20th when I will have it towed in for its appt.
I had the same issue it's in the shop now they told me it was my starter and they had to totally remove the exhaust manifold in order to fix it $900.00 cost for me it sure is nice to hwv a little warranty.
Mee toooo so frustrating so this week I’m changing the starter relay. And these models I just found out by. Calling customer care accidentally told me it has a recall so hopefully after. I change this I won’t have. Problems with it
You did not need a new starter, just the relay switch; you could have used the jumper cable from the battery to the hot wire on the starter and it would have cranked.
@@timchuk4916 Sorry Tim, I overlooked your email notice from youtube as I get 50 to 100 emails per day and have not the time to read them all. I am sure you solved your problem by now; but like Chance above said that's an old trick; however, today's cars you may have to remove or snap off the battery cover or terminal covers either one, and depending upon the vehicle, it may have some kind of a cover on the starter. Once you get to both grip the positive post on the battery and find the hot wire on the starter...usually red and the black wire goes to the frame or is bolted onto the fender somewhere...don't use this. Just hot wire to hot wire, you will see some sparks and don't forget to have someone else turn on the power to the starter from the inside of the vehicle, e.g, push the brake and the starter button or on older models turn the key to start and be sure it's in park. Again, sorry for overlooking you.
@@olayinkaafolabi168 I bought jump starter. Stanly brand name. Connect with your battery wait afew seconds or min then try to start your car. Thats what I did. After that it started. But it has so many warnings on the screen. I decided to take dealer next day all the warnings was gone but I took dealer anyway just in case it has still factory warranty. Good Luck.
Hi I just have this problem with my Jeep 2019 compass....it will not turn off nore turn on. It says the car needs to be in park ...but it is in park...radio will not turn on ....in order to turn it off i had to disconeect the battery. It does not make sense. What is wrong with it??
Relay code P2AF5 - Starter relay "C" Stuck On This code continues to show on my 2019 Compass, I will be replacing the relay. Ill add it or write another post with the result
I found the solution for 2018 jeep compass. Mine wouldnt start popped up a bunch of service lights. Turns out the jeep compasses have two batteries and its the auxiliary battery that is the issue and needs to be replaced. $99 at autozone 3 yr warranty. The battery is located next to the main battery

Can you charge the auxiliary battery first before changing it?

For everyone not wanting to watch the whole freaking video, he tried everything, and it ended up being a starter. Such a long video for no reason
I swear i was thinking the same thing!! A whole 20 minute video for nothing
Thank u 🤣

Gotta shorten the videos. When ppl want a quick fix, they don't wanna watch a 20 minute video. Just get to the point 🤣

Did you fixed ?
I can’t get this time back in my life
The problem is in the orange fuse in the fuse block above the battery (orange). Fails over time due to temperature changes.
Geeez. This video is brutal!!!
