I enjoyed your reaction. One thing I don't think anyone else has answered for you is that there was no applause because this was performed (and pre-recorded) during the pandemic, so there was no audience. If I had to guess, BTS did this as a more straight cover because they are huge fans of Coldplay and wanted to honor it pretty much as it was. They got permission from Coldplay to sing it, and apparently it is rare for that permission to be given by Coldplay.
Climax of the song is.... 17:12 ....that smile and "there we go, that's the kind I was waiting for.. climax of this song... that high belt voice.. this climax, I am happy to see them executing that"...
I understand that your background is with acapella groups, but they're not an acapella group. They're a band creating a homage cover to a band they admire, they weren't trying to change the song itself, they were paying their respects. That doesn't make it not creative, they're voices are unique and that is the actual point of a cover. Thanks for your reaction, though.

The relationship that BTS has with Coldplay is really meaningful. The fact that Coldplay greenlit an official cover this way (on MTV, no less) on a song Chris is famously possessive of is really profound. BTS's delivery, staying faithful to the original, while adding notes of colour of their own, is really powerfully evocative. Definitely consider checking out Tiny Desk from NPR for the diversity of BTS's original vocal colour. They also have a performance that Jimmy Fallon aired back in 2020 on his BTS Week, Idol. Well worth looking into (and it's an interesting one as it contains some authentic Korean instrumentation & vocalization). There's not another song out there like it.
BTS was amazing in Vegas. I went for day 1 & 2. I have never traveled for any other musical group before. I am going to be 50 this year and have seen many big acts, such as ZZ Top, Elton John, and God Smack. BTS’s messages in their music have literally saved my life. Their music and encouragement has given me the motivation to work out and get in shape. I had given up and was using a walker and was considering stopping working and going on disability. I don’t really need the walker anymore and I am working full time. I only discovered BTS in September 2021.
For "vulnerability" moments you could check Blue & Grey (there is a live performance for this same Unplugged show), The Truth Untold, House of Cards, and Zero O' Clock. For solo songs, Abyss (by Jin, the guy with the pink mic, but we don't have a live version for it), Lie (by Jimin, the vocalist who first added that "scoop" you mentioned, you can find live versions), Still with you (by JK, again. no live version save for a little bit during an informal livestream), and Stigma (by V, the ending voice here, again, live versions are available)
BTS consist of 3 rappers and 4 vocalists. All the rappers were doing the octave down during the "duet moments". And for the vocalists there are the tenor: Jungkook (purple mic), Jin (pink mic), Jimin (golden mic); and the baritone V (green mic). Pleasee react to their Tiny Desk Concert and the BTS FESTA ROOM LIVE!!
There are 3 rappers and 4 vocalists in BTS so the rappers were paired with each singer to harmonize on the song. RM the leader and rapper in BTS is the only one fluent in English. I recommend watching some of their own original songs like the 2021 Festa room live 2021 or the NPR Tiny desk concert if you just looking to react to vocals but They are best when they are live on stage and dancing and singing and putting on a full show nothing beats BTS in concert.
If you listen to their original songs (they have a HUGE discography), you'll see that they're not a "traditional" vocal group. They consist of 3 rappers and 4 vocalists so usually the rappers don't sing so much. And since they're not only singers but also a performance group with INSANE coreography, live harmonizing is not their main thing. I mean they can do it but mostly done in recording. Would love to see you react to their original songs! TheirTiny Desk concert is a great place to start, and their Festa Room Live performance is a fun way to get a glimpse of their vast discography .
Hi, great surprise to see you reacting to BTS! They’re huge coldplay fans and wanted to pay respects to the original, which is why they didn’t change the arrangement. They actually collaborated on a song called my universe if you’re interested in that (plus a 12 minute documentary about the recording process). One thing you should be aware of is BTS consists of 4 singers (gold mic Jimin, blue mic Jungkook, green mic V and pink mic Jin) and 3 rappers(red mic J-hope, black mic Suga and grey mic RM)- so for the octave harmonies one rapper was always paired up with one singer. They’re all Korean by the way :) If you want to check out more live singing, I recommend the Tiny Desk concert where they sing 3 songs, or The Truth Untold (a song with only the 4 vocalists). They also did a cover of I’ll be missing you on BBC.
V is a natural baritone. He can sing both high and low. He is said to be the baritone vocalist of kpop. Jimin is naturally high pitched, his low note is high for average man
Only one of the BTS members, RM, speaks English fluently. He taught himself to speak English from watching the TV show Friends on dvd using Korean subtitles and finally English subtitles.
coldplay rarely give permission to do a cover on this song (that´s what i heard) so i think he agree was because bts kept it close to the original. they wanted to do it justice. so it´s just a guess.
Coldplay doesn’t normally allow other artists cover their song but they let BTS to cover it. I’m so happy. They have a great relationship. They did a song together also. My universe
I’d love for you to watch “your eyes tell” live. It’s a beautiful Japanese song, the rappers add some soft melodic rap and the 😅4 vocalists seamlessly bounce off one another in what is almost like a competition on who can be more amazing, because they all are. 💜💜💜
Thanks for reacting to BTS singing "Fix You" by Coldplay. The reason why there was no audience clapping when they finished singing was because this performance was done during the pandemic in Feb 2021. Filming and live shows and studio shows were made, but without a live audience present.
Going to add comments as I go along. Thank you for recognizing their effort in terms of maintaining phonetics of the words. As someone with a different native tongue, while English is easy for me now, There is an element of practice required to create clarity. Some think this is insulting because English is a basic language of communication but forget that phonetic differences in characters do have an impact (and therefore the accents) on how words sound. The person you were talking about at the 6:00 min mark (Tae - aka green mic) is a baritone. You were talking about flipping sooner as a bass singer but given the way singers in Korea are trained, he is (as are all 4), adept at doing a seamless flip which means he doesn't need the additional build up time we instinctively add. The baritone timbre lower octave harmony (7:20) was done by one of the rappers (silver mic). black mic and red mic are also rappers. the groups rappers can sing but for this song they all provided lower harmony support. The prerecorded harmonies are used when they want to specifically highlight a voice because you can control it more. In their own songs and even here at one point, you can hear them harmonize live. For this performance, they wanted to keep it as sombre as possible. If you're interested, the fans will recommend some songs where you can hear them harmonize live in their own songs. I know you were waiting for some insane harmonies.. I could see it in your reaction. The boys were very cautious with the cover for many reasons (and this still led to them receiving some hate for even daring to cover the song). If you are specifically looking for vocal heavy songs from the boys, I strongly suggest their Japanese discography 1. Stay Gold 2. Your Eyes Tell 3. Film Out.
I really enjoyed your breakdown and explanations. Thanks for giving BTS a try! This cover made me cry when I first watched it. Since you appreciate songs sung in a variety of languages, I hope you'll also give one of their Korean songs a try.
Coldplay has never let anyone sing and cover their songs, didn’t you know? BTS were ones of the first ones. And if they let ppl cover their songs, they want the singers to cover as close to the original as possible…
As a fan, watching our 3 rappers sing harmonies was amazing. They are 4 vocalists and 3 rappers. One of the main things that separates BTS is their dancing. Their ability to sing live while doing complex choreographies is out of this world. Watch the 2021 Festa or the Tiny Desk that the others have commented.
Vi's a naturalbaritone but he has a wide range. His love of jazz gives him a highly unusual tone for Korea. The rappers harmonises an octave lower. I love RMs low harmonies I wish they would use him more that way. This is all 7. I would love you listen to the vocal line live in concert TRUTH UNTOLD, O OCLOCK, and HOUSE OF CARDS.
That’s not necessary to mention. He has trained for 10 years to be this good. Many singers start singing at 20s, and they improve more than singers who started singing in young age
BTS consists of seven members, 4 vocalists and 3 rappers. If you truly want to see some of the vocal range of BTS i recommend watching Your Eyes Tell live. Its a beautiful piece written by the youngest member. Gorgeous vocals, and melodic rapping. Thoroughly enjoyed you insightful reaction.
I'd actually love to see your reaction to My Universe, the collab BTS released with Coldplay just after they dropped this cover. I believe one reason they left the arrangement of this cover so similar is that they just really loved the original - they have done other covers and remixes in the past that strayed further from the original (i.e. the way j-hope, one of the rappers, worked with the OG version track for Chicken Noodle Soup & transformed it). You might also enjoy watching their NPR Tiny Desk concert, which I personally think is one of the best showcases of their vocal ability in recent years & would give you exposure to their work in their own language.
#BTS tienes 4 vocalistas extraordinarios y 3 de la Rap line, este cover de Coldplay es precioso y #BTS como siempre hizo una excelente interpretación 💜👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Ya, it was a choice to keep the song just the way it was. Perhaps you'd enjoy their cover arrangement of "I'll Be Missing You"(Puff Daddy/Faith Evans/Sting) on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge? As others have mentioned, the 3 who sang the lower octaves in the duet parts are actually rappers who don't often sing in the group. And thank you for acknowledging the language barrier. They worked really hard on their pronunciation for it. At the time of this performance, only one of them was fluent in English and the others didn't really speak it. Loved the video! I'd be interested in more BTS reactions & analyses!
JK sometimes sings UpTo 12 different back ground tracks for one song. He does so many parts plus lead. He can't sing all the tracks live. Answer why they had track in the background. Don't know how many parts he sang in this song.
The band is BTS Backup Band called the GHOST BAND and it is live. Chris Martin of Cold Play song n BTS cover this, is in another level. I really like this cover for I can feel it.. Jin n Jimin are a great combination love Jin hit the high C sharp, Jung-kook the main vocalist n he's doing so good in this. Check Cold Play X BTS "My Universe".
Not bad for a group where only 1 speaks fluent English although they are all learning and getting better. Yes, definitely do Tiny Desk Concert and their BTS Room Live. Looking forward to it.💜
Finally a real vocal coach explains well. I Luved BTS's cover of this song , glad that u checked it out I'll recommend u to do more BTS , I'm so interested to see ur reaction to their live performance of " your eyes tell"
Thanks for your reaction! As others recommended, definitely check out their NPR tiny desk concert where they perform 3 of their own songs in an acoustic setting with a live band :)
It is not easy for Chris Martin to authorize a cover of this song, but he authorized BTS. The boys are fans of Coldplay and this song has a special meaning since they listened to it a lot to lift their spirits; for that reason they wanted to conserve the style of the song. It is higher since Chris Martin is a baritone and in the case of BTS 3 vocalists are tenors and only 1 is a baritone (the one that ends, who has a deep natural voice); the rappers are the ones who make harmonies an octave below, 2 of them are baritones and 1 bass. When you mentioned the pre-recorded harmonies, using headphones I only hear JK's voice, that's his sound, it seems that he was born with autotune and effects in his throat. Coldplay described this cover as "Beautiful" and shortly after Chris Martin traveled to Korea to meet BTS and record with them the song My Universe, a collaboration between the two bands that was released last September.
Thanks so much for this break down of this song. Sometimes we can love a group so much we don't always hear the little things so thanks for pointing out and respecting all their talents. I really enjoyed your reaction.
If you like Coldplay, I suggest reacting to the behind-the-scenes video of the making of My Universe. Chris Martin went to South Korea to collab with BTS on making this song. The mutual respect is heart-warming.
This was more like a tribute than a cover and i think the goal was to transfer the emotions and message of the original, which of you would know the history of BTS and their struggle and their relationship with fans makes a perfect sense.
Coldplay I'm sure gave their okay to do this cover. They sent a nice tweet about it when it was televised. Chris Martin said it was beautiful, spelled in Korean on his tweet. I think they had already done their collaboration (My Universe) before this cover was recorded.
thank you for your reaction to BTS, I think you'll also enjoy their live "Blue & Grey", they performed it alongside Fix you that day on MTV, it's A slow, tender pop ballad, the lyrics reflect on depression, burnout, anxiety, and pandemic-induced loneliness, it's filled with raw emotions, singing and rapping, they perform it at concerts too💜
out of their vocalists, V has the deepest voice. He has a neo-soul solo song called Singularity that you would probably like, the primary songwriter for it is their rapper RM (who also has a very deep voice haha). Here's the music vid for Singularity: th-cam.com/video/p8npDG2ulKQ/w-d-xo.html Here are some other BTS song suggestions based on musical genre: - jazz/blues vibes: House of Cards (by their 4 vocalists), Still With You (solo by their vocalist Jungkook) - funk: Ma City - rock inspired: Boy In Luv, Dionysus - Michael Jackson sounding (I know MJ is not a genre, but...it should be lol): Danger - ambient/chill lounge: 134340 (Pluto) - latin vibes: Airplane Pt. 2, Filter (solo by their vocalist Jimin) - RnB vibes: Paradise, Hold Me Tight, Home, Tomorrow, Just One Day. - hiphop/rap: Cyphers #1 - #4 (by their 3 rappers), Born Singer (BTS's own rendition of Born Sinner by the rapper J Cole), Baepsae Silver Spoon, No More Dream (BTS first music video ever). BTS has a lot of hiphop/rap/RnB songs cause they were originally a hiphop group, the group was formed around their 3 very skilled rappers, who are the primary songwriters and producers for BTS. Each rapper also wrote/produced their own rap solo mixtapes. If you want to hear their individual talent and style in rap, explore their mixtapes. Here are suggestions to start you off: - Joke by RM - Agust D by Agust D - Daydream by J-Hope - ballad type/vocal heavy songs: Pied Piper (one of their most popular B side tracks), Louder Than Bombs, Epiphany (solo by their vocalist Jin) - heavy metal: they don't have strictly heavy metal songs, BUT their rapper RM has a rap song on his own mixtape called Throw Away that uses a heavy metal-like instrumental. BTS has also done a dance cover performance to Rollin' by Limp Bizkit and Spaz by Krizz Kaliko: th-cam.com/video/S1Up-ZzHmuw/w-d-xo.html - pop: most of their title tracks and viral songs are going to lean very much towards pop, though they do usually mix elements of other genres in too: Black Swan, On, Blood Sweat and Tears, Fire, Fake Love, Not Today.
First voice Jungkook, tenor and main vocalist, second is V baritone, third is Jin tenor, and fourth is Jimin counter tenor. Jimin has an extraordinarily sweet tone to his high voice. You are correct that tgey often llayer chorus on to a backing tape, often all sung by Jungkook. Chris Martin is English
Hey Peter, so cool to see you do a BTS reaction, let me tell you who each of them are: The first singer, blond hair and purple mic is Jungkook. The second singer with the green mic is V, he’s the guy who ended the song. The third singer with the pink mic is Jin, and the guy with the silver mic harmonising with him is RM, leader of the group and main rapper. The fifth singer with the gold mic is Jimin. The sixth guy with the black mic and harmonising with V (green mic guy) is Suga, lead rapper. The seventh guy with the red mic who harmonised with Jimin (gold mic guy) is J Hope, another rapper and the group’s main dancer. Anyway, I’d love to see what you think of their original songs. Maybe Dynamite or Butter coz they are both English language songs. Or if you want something completely different then something like Mic Drop. Oh, and they’re all South Korean, just in case you were unaware.
BTS wanted to keep the original, normally other artist change it for their own decision or because copyright issues. In fact, Coldplay rarely lets other music artists cover their songs. The members of BTS said that fix you is a song that gave them a lot of comfort and after that special performance for MTV, Coldplay shared their approval online by posting links to the performance as well as a positive messages. Then they did a collab together and showed how much love and respect they have for each other. 💜
Thank you so much for checking out BTS. I actually learned a lot from this video. 🙂 I highly recommend their cover of 'Ill Be Missing You' on BBC Radio 1. I also recommend you check out BTS Room Live and their Japanese song 'Your Eyes Tell'.

Name Green mic ??
@@sophiamt9123 his real name is Kim Taehyung but goes with his stage name as V
@@kellyot7530 thanks 💜
@@sophiamt9123 my pleasure 💜
Y de este modo, todo el mundo queda impresionado con la ejecución vocal de nuestro Worldwide Handsome, Kim Seok Jin!!! 💜
Going back to this leJINdary masterpiece of bts
If you listen to their original songs (they have a HUGE discography), you'll see that they're not a "traditional" vocal group. They consist of 3 rappers and 4 vocalists so usually the rappers don't sing so much. And since they're not only singers but also a performance group with INSANE coreography, live harmonizing is not their main thing. I mean they can do it but mostly done in recording.
Would love to see you react to their original songs! TheirTiny Desk concert is a great place to start, and their Festa Room Live performance is a fun way to get a glimpse of their vast discography .
Overrated
@@exokings7849 Are you sure? How many songs of them have you heard? Perhaps not enough
Love your reaction. And thank you for recognizing the talents of the boys especially the one with pink mic. 💜
They’re all Korean by the way :)
If you want to check out more live singing, I recommend the Tiny Desk concert where they sing 3 songs, or The Truth Untold (a song with only the 4 vocalists). They also did a cover of I’ll be missing you on BBC.
Thank your reaction. They 3 rapper. 4 singer. They always dance& live.
V is a natural baritone. He can sing both high and low. He is said to be the baritone vocalist of kpop.
Jimin is naturally high pitched, his low note is high for average man
Jimin is a tenor, but really comfortable in his higher range, like you said.
@@flyushkifly his low notes is actually a bit high for me(avg men)
The boys who did the second voices are the rappers of the group.
Only one of the BTS members, RM, speaks English fluently. He taught himself to speak English from watching the TV show Friends on dvd using Korean subtitles and finally English subtitles.
He also studied in New Zealand for 4 months!
coldplay rarely give permission to do a cover on this song (that´s what i heard) so i think he agree was because bts kept it close to the original. they wanted to do it justice. so it´s just a guess.
Definitely check out Film Out
I love ur smile at 13:21. Its just sooo real
If you are specifically looking for vocal heavy songs from the boys, I strongly suggest their Japanese discography
1. Stay Gold
2. Your Eyes Tell
The low singing singer is a rapper which is mind-blowing
You gotta check out there Festa room live it shows off there voices more
Please react to BTS Your Eyes Tell live performance.
It’s written by JK and its Japanese song(fyi, BTS are all Koreans and Japanese is tough language)
Jin is the one who sing more full voice(purple mic)
Fun fact: He start singing in 20yo.
That’s not necessary to mention. He has trained for 10 years to be this good. Many singers start singing at 20s, and they improve more than singers who started singing in young age
Jin mic is pink
BTS consists of seven members, 4 vocalists and 3 rappers. If you truly want to see some of the vocal range of BTS i recommend watching Your Eyes Tell live. Its a beautiful piece written by the youngest member. Gorgeous vocals, and melodic rapping. Thoroughly enjoyed you insightful reaction.
Kim Taehyung 👑 perfect voice ..
3 of them are actually rappers, loved your reaction 💜
I Luved BTS's cover of this song , glad that u checked it out
I'll recommend u to do more BTS , I'm so interested to see ur reaction to their live performance of " your eyes tell"
I started watching you with the Dimash videos and now Bts 🤩 keep it up 🙌🏼💯
Bts has 4 vocalist and 3 rappers, thats why they sang this way this piece.
Thanks for your reaction! As others recommended, definitely check out their NPR tiny desk concert where they perform 3 of their own songs in an acoustic setting with a live band :)
The one who was changing between his chest and head voice easily is V he's a baritone actually
Those baritone octaves you are hearing are the rappers. They aren't trained vocalists but they still do a fantastic job when they do sing.
So excited for you to do a BTS reaction! This is a great starting song. And a nearly half an hour video, I already know this is going to be great 💜
look for my comment and like it so we could hopefully get Peter to watch it?
I'm glad I found your channel today
I really recommend you to listen to their Japanese songs live version so emotional my favorite: film out, your eyes tell, let go
The Japanese songs like “your eyes tell” show their voices beautifully as well.
Pls react to their song “Film Out” Live. Its sang in japanese & an OST of a film of the same title 👌
Yours!!!!!!!!!!!!!JIIIIIN!!!!!!
Ok you have to react to “Your Eyes Tell” ….I KNOW your gonna appreciate the vocal delivery…it’s an amazing song.
why did i miss this. we love an intelligent review!!!
I recommend you to react I'll be missing you in BBC radio
Aloha. Magic.
You can react to Bts love myself live
thank you for your reaction to BTS, I think you'll also enjoy their live "Blue & Grey", they performed it alongside Fix you that day on MTV, it's A slow, tender pop ballad, the lyrics reflect on depression, burnout, anxiety, and pandemic-induced loneliness, it's filled with raw emotions, singing and rapping, they perform it at concerts too💜
out of their vocalists, V has the deepest voice. He has a neo-soul solo song called Singularity that you would probably like, the primary songwriter for it is their rapper RM (who also has a very deep voice haha). Here's the music vid for Singularity:
th-cam.com/video/p8npDG2ulKQ/w-d-xo.html
Here are some other BTS song suggestions based on musical genre:
- jazz/blues vibes: House of Cards (by their 4 vocalists), Still With You (solo by their vocalist Jungkook)
- funk: Ma City
- rock inspired: Boy In Luv, Dionysus
- Michael Jackson sounding (I know MJ is not a genre, but...it should be lol): Danger
- ambient/chill lounge: 134340 (Pluto)
- latin vibes: Airplane Pt. 2, Filter (solo by their vocalist Jimin)
- RnB vibes: Paradise, Hold Me Tight, Home, Tomorrow, Just One Day.
Here are suggestions to start you off:
- Joke by RM
- Agust D by Agust D
- Daydream by J-Hope
- ballad type/vocal heavy songs: Pied Piper (one of their most popular B side tracks), Louder Than Bombs, Epiphany (solo by their vocalist Jin)
- heavy metal: they don't have strictly heavy metal songs, BUT their rapper RM has a rap song on his own mixtape called Throw Away that uses a heavy metal-like instrumental. BTS has also done a dance cover performance to Rollin' by Limp Bizkit and Spaz by Krizz Kaliko:
th-cam.com/video/S1Up-ZzHmuw/w-d-xo.html
- pop: most of their title tracks and viral songs are going to lean very much towards pop, though they do usually mix elements of other genres in too: Black Swan, On, Blood Sweat and Tears, Fire, Fake Love, Not Today.
Hey Peter, so cool to see you do a BTS reaction, let me tell you who each of them are:
The first singer, blond hair and purple mic is Jungkook.
Thanks for the reaction ,bro ❤️🩹🫂
Fantastic, thanks Peter. Fully enjoying your explanations, analysis and thoughts on technique. Very clear and good to learn from.
4 VOCALISTS AND 3 RAPPERS...1 RAPPER IS A SUB VOCALIST..THE rappers were the ones singing the deep voices....BORAHAE...BE SAFE EVERYONE
Yes Cold Play are English, formed in London in 1996.
Thank you so much for checking out BTS. I actually learned a lot from this video. 🙂 I highly recommend their cover of 'Ill Be Missing You' on BBC Radio 1. I also recommend you check out BTS Room Live and their Japanese song 'Your Eyes Tell'.
”the first chord” won me over :))
First time hearing this. It is soooooo good, so soft and smooth.
Amazing analysis as always!
