    Baraka ALLAH brother. You're an inspiration. Subhana ALLAH, it is rather ironic that we (native Muslims) have to go to brother converts for honesty and inspiration.

      What does "native Muslim" mean? I'm assuming you mean "born Muslim." However, although you mean well, I personally don't see the point of such statements. Knowledge is obtained by whoever searches for it. Being "born" or "revert" is irrelevant. Besides, if anything, most of the ones we get Knowledge from (the sahaba) were reverts.

      @@ummsumayyah1096 Sister. My comment was rather personal. I was born a Muslim, but unfortunately, my parents enrolled me in a French school. Therefore, I did not learn any Arabic (Fossha). I have been for the last 40 years struggling to learn the language, In the meantime, I have been deepening my knowledge of Fiqh and Sunna by means of translations. Therefore, someone who managed to acquire so much knowledge through a relatively short time cannot fail to inspire me.

      Wa alaykoem salaam warhmatullaahi wa barakatu let us striving to a character of a student of knowledge and the loved material is a pen and paper. To listen, pause and write a schedule, because this should be our mindset then make it easy for us. Student of knowledge knows the sweetness of knowledge and what to do for it like the one he knows if he want to eat honey, he should go trough the bee's and he will struggle but knows for what he is doing it! If we die like this for the sake of Allaah, He can give us mercy and forgiveness so we can be of the true winners. And Allaah knows best and may Allaah guide us, give us knowledge to come closer to Him with the right understanding and that is with the understanding of de salaf radialahu henhuma.

      I only said that for brothers and sisters that are beginning their study of the Arabic language. Because alot times brother's don't really give a clear minhaj for the Arabic language. When I studied in Egypt there was a clear way that was not taught here in America. But I'm mostly talking about books ahadith and books of Ilm because arabiya yadayk is about speaking and listening and reading but the vocabulary is not gear to Ilm of Deen. But thanks for the advice may Allah reward you.

    Im not really memorizing the verses in whole but at the moment I am only memorizing each word one by one and all its forms and root so i can undertand the meaning of every ayah. after a while inshallah i will focus again in memorizing the whole surahs. is this okay?thanks for the advice sheikh.

    • @muhammadjamessutton
      @muhammadjamessutton 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      As far as the memorization, in my opinion, you should memorize the page or the Surah, if it is short, as a whole. You can always sit down and try to understand the verses on their own after you memorize. However, when you are memorizing, you should memorize as a whole block because it makes it is easier for you to always be able to recall the next verse. I am not a fan of memorizing verse by verse or word by word.

      @@SerrvantX You have to understand what you are memorizing. However, you are not going to truly understand what you are memorizing until you learn the Arabic language. Should a person wait until he or she learns Arabic to start memorizing? No. Start memorizing now, especially the Quran, and at the same time keep working on learning the Arabic language while you memorize.
