This brings me back. A ghetto blaster was my debut into the installing world. I used a couple of 6x9's for bass and moved up to using high density abs pipe for ports on a couple of my bigger builds. All that led up to putting 8 18's in a suburban. That was my Oppenheimer moment... I unleashed that unto the world, and now it haunts me by passing by my house twice a day. 😆
neat project. looks like you can draw out from power poles on side as well. I got my girlfriend one that was already made. has light up speakers. runs all day on a charge. now you can use it on laptop as Bluetooth speakers .
Thats most unique thing ive seen this year! Ive had a very large can from vietnam/late 60's ive been hoarding for years, now i know what to use it for!
Great build! How well do you think it would have come out if you used a plastic Ammo box instead of the metal one? I’m wondering how that would change the output sound…
Nice Build! I would definitely put tue guard back on the angle grinder while using the zipcut discs as they can separate and fly apart. Also a full face shield over your safety glasses will help keep the shrapnel out of your face should one explode.
Your post inspired me so I made a box. I love it! One issue, however. When using the aux jack I’m not getting any audio. I get the impression it wants to stay in Bluetooth mode. Instructions are limited. I was thinking there’s a toggle to turn on the aux jack? I’m sure I’m just not seeing a simple fix. What I’m I doing wrong?
What plastic ammo box would fit would fit 6.5 speaker that has 7.09” diameter cut out 5.31” mounting depth 2.48” and on amazon it says product dimension is 7.4”Dx7.6”Wx7.1H
If you pull it apart I'd spray the ammo can black myself, but that's just me. I'd probably install a prerequisite Clutch sticker and Black Sabbath logo.
Wire it up for a 3.5mm Stereo port and hook it up to your HF / Mobile unit as an exterior speaker. UPDATE: see the port between the speakers. great project
Awesome build!! I had kicker speakers when I was teenager!! 2 10 inch with tweeters and boxes, also powered by a 250 watt JVC amp and JVC tape deck that would play both sides!! 73 enjoyed!! How much was total build for this??
Hey!, this is so cool and i have all the parts and i’m about to build it but i don’t have the name of the amp and i don’t know which one to get. please help me get the one you had in the video. Thanks!
Coming from a machinist, you got to slow down the RPM of that step drill when it moves past 1/2-5/8". Your surface footage is far too high and you're working too hard. But, I like the concept. I'm a fan of the ammo can. KC3OXN
I was thinking the exact same thing! Years ago, we played around with some old Royal speakers we were rebuilding. Cut a hole for baffle tubes and slid them in and out while playing various music and cut to the best sounding length. Drastic improvement! 73
It's too bad you didn't do this a month ago. I'd have had time to build it to use at the local Land Navigation Course event this weekend. Oh well, I can make one for overlanding. Always playing music with a group.
I got some insulation after filming this video, but I've been procrastinating taking it all apart to put it in. It does have a charging port. That's the red and black plug on the side. I also added a USB-C outlet that has a volt meter after filming..
I think we can improve it by adding acoustic wool in the case in order to reduce the vibration effects of the metal case and that will be perfect I even think that risks transforming your sound even better otherwise it's a nice look
Couldnt find a single part save the ammo can in your link to a zillion unrelated parts. You might of wanted to list your parts out here, actually show each part fully rather than your hands hiding them, then quickly shoving them in the box. Great idea, bad implementation...just sayin'

That is Hamtastic!!!! You are a dangerous man with power tools!!! LOL!!! 73, Mike!!!
Only need a drill and a grinder and you can do anything.
and a hammer@@hamradiotube
@@hamradiotubeI was woundering if this 14” 1409 dry Marine box will fit this PLMR60W side by side on front?
No longer a freeloader. I'm a patreon supporter now.

I watched a couple videos yesterday after I built this that were using plastic boxes and they sounded good too.
Nice video, plenty of space to stow a backup Baofeng UV-5 and a Meshtastic node, keep up the good work, God bless.
All that work you did and you didn't have to use any band aids. Great job. I always nick myself on the sharp edges.
Oh I def got a few small cuts, but I ain't got time to bleed!
Would the aux work with the ext spkr output on our radios? Not sure how all the impedence matching would go

Yeah that's long gone.
Kicker is one of the best values on the market.
Now you should get one of those ammo boxes that are about twice the size of this one and make a powered subwoofer!
The POTA ghetto blaster! Awesome video Mike!
Only a little sad no safety squints were used in the making of this video.
Do you have to remove the battery to charge it?
Only thing I would add is usb port to keep the phone charged while playing music.
I actually added one after I filmed this video. Mostly because it has a volt meter on it but it has 2 usb-c pd and a usb-3 quick charge.
Hola! Que bueno me encanta buen trabajo! Que tipo de amplificador y altavoces has usado? Gracias!!
have you gotten any bad rattles or vibrations from the can its self ? seems like there would be
Do you need a low voltage cut off?
Where did you get all of those parts
Do you think a Milwaukee battery adapter would work?
Did you make the power cable that runs to the amp, or does the amp come with it?

Damn good job bro. Love this
What size are the speaker mounting bolts please
Can I use an Anderson plug ran off a 12v cigarette lighter charger to charge this battery?
What would be a good black plastic box that would fit 2 plye 6.5 150watt marine speakers on the front ?
Mike, black Sharpie should take care of the speaker screws. Nice job. How long was the build time?
If you pull it apart I'd spray the ammo can black myself, but that's just me. I'd probably install a prerequisite Clutch sticker and Black Sabbath logo.

Have you tried building one that you can link together with more than 1 ammo can speaker? I would love to see what you would use. Thanks
What would be a good plastic ammo box that can fit 2 6.5 150watt marine on the same side on the box?

if you made two can you party mode them to eachother?
Great project Mike!
Are these batteries ok inside the ammo box without being vented? Just curious if it would be ok outside in the summer time.
Yep. I’m using Lithium Iron Phosphate.
How do you charge the battery

Awesome wonderful job
Add some sound baffling.

You should put the stereo controls external with a rollbar around them like you find on a lot of switchboards and the like
Also, just to say, parts express sells a setup just like this as a kit on their website.
So I'm not an electronics guy. The power pole you have above the switch, is that to charge the battery?
I can use that to charge the battery or power other 12v devices should I want.
So how did you get the battery to hook up with the amplifier? I'm planning on building one
Can PRV midrange, midbass speakers and tweeters be used with this amplifier?
I have a wooden box wired similar to this w 2 ds18 pro 6.5 red tips in it and it sounds great
It's too bad you didn't do this a month ago. I'd have had time to build it to use at the local Land Navigation Course event this weekend. Oh well, I can make one for overlanding. Always playing music with a group.
Add some insulation and a charging port. The insulation will clean up the sound quality.

Drill a hole in the back, so it can push some air for bass.
wow , you got skills KILO MIKE. I need you to build me a go-box for my CB RADIO.

I would put washers under the speaker nuts and a drop of LocTite.
really nice work
Too cool I need to build one.
Great project! Squeeze Box would have been a great first play on it, but you probably would have been de-monitized. 😎😎
I don’t know what a squeeze box is but now I’m gonna have to go look it up.
