    You can also use “=START” and “=END” markers to define the render start and end position for the “entire project” selection.

    Another related thing that would be great to see is the workflow you use to do a mastering session. I'm completely sold to Reaper by now but one of the things I miss from "Studio One" is the ability to easily switch between a mastering session, back to a song mix (to tweak something) and then bounce the song back into the mastering session and keep going. I'm interested in the approach/workflow you take when mastering a full album. And thanks again for saving all our asses with Reaper, you're truly the best out there.

    • @mod3l
      @mod3l 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Idk, if this helps but you can insert a Reaper (mixing) project into your mastering project as an item and master it that way with the ability to edit the items contents (mixing project) whenever it's needed.

I didn't see any LUFS settings in your video, another thing I didn't set - just used the default -20dB. When I rendered again at -14dB it sounded better. Live and learn. Really great videos!

    Hi Kenny. Over the past few weeks, I have seen requests for help about a rendered mix sounding different than the master out. I can only think of two things. Monitor FX plugins and plugins that have different settings for quality and oversampling for online/offline functionality. Do you know of any other variables? Different dither processing perhaps? Thanks, Danny.

    • @mabian69
      @mabian69 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rendering to lossy formats like mp3 or to sample rates different than the one set in the project can result in the rendered file not sounding the same as in the session.

    If I'm outputting a 48k wav as my primary render, how would I output a dithered mp3 as a secondary? Reaper seems to only give you the option to dither both or dither neither. Seems like I'd have to render the 48k wav first then go back, check the "dither master" box, then render a 320k mp3?

    Great video, very informative!
    I'm a beginner producer and is struggling with exporting with Reaper. How did you manage to get the volume of the render the same as in Reaper? I cannot seem to get this working, and I've seen countless of people having the same problem. Basically Reaper lowers the volume to half of the original. I have tried solutions listed by other people in the countless threads regarding this problem, but it has not been solved or maybe I don't understand it. When playing the track in Reaper, the volume is perfect. I use a brand new RME Babyface Pro FS to record direct input.
    What am I doing wrong? I have my master volume fader on 0 dB. My tracks have optimal volume peaks in Reaper. The track volumes are set to default. If I were to push the volume up, the tracks would clip. Something weird happens when rendering, and this destroys my music. It is not something to fix in the mastering stage, it should not work this way :(

    Thanks for video ! Very often, after rendering, at the beginning of the master mix audio file, I hear the echo of the last sound of the project. It seems that the echo of the last sound is saved in the buffer and is transferred to the beginning of the project during rendering. The only thing that helps me is repeatedly pressing the STOP button before the rendering process(5-6 times) and then I wait 3-5 sec, only after that the mix renders with silence at the beginning. Does anyone know why this is happening?

    What's the difference between using the "tail" feature (let's say for 4 seconds) and simply extending your time selection by 4 seconds?

    • @REAPERMania
      @REAPERMania  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it should be the same, The "Tail" feature is nice for "Regions" though. Because if you want to render one region, you don't want to change the boundaries just for the render.

      Same question from a "beginner". I'm learning Kenny's videos are the best out here but surprised a lot of great questions are asked but not answered by the "experienced/knowledgeable" community. From what I've heard in another tutorial, it levels the volume out. To me that sounds like a limiter plug-in. It seems 2 boxes to check that do the same thing, defined and explained separately leads me to believe they were unsure what they do as well.
