The "Link" feature is very handy for chopping wild transients on acoustic guitar without changing the volume of the track (like most other limiters do).

There's also a requirement for tracks to be -1dB true peak limited. It's a good practice anyway because when you encode it in AAC or MP3 it will be louder than -1dB in peaks bcs of the way lossy encoding works.

im really developing a deep appreciation for reaper's native plugins. like i love beautiful interfaces as much as the next guy, but a lot of times plugins are just too gimmicky with their UI and make it actively harder to focus on the actual content of the plugin. it even feels like dishonest marketing sometimes. "our plugins look beautiful so that means they're more professional". reaper takes a very no nonsense approach to plugin design, and only give you the things you need, while also going really easy on your cpu usage. its just amazing. I've been using a really clunky overdesigned limiter for a while now and it was always a bit frustrating to use, but im definitely switching to this. i love the simplicity and the readout functionality. most companies charge a lot of money when their plugin has that kind of useful visual information. ESPECIALLY limiters or compressors, because they're capitalizing off of beginners who are confused by them and overly rely on visual help to understand what they're doing.

I’m finding that I’m learning more from using reapers’s plug ins. It like I’m actually seeing and learning what I’m doing to the music in a raw way, apposed to turning a fancy knob that I really don’t know exactly what I’m doing but changing the sound.

I see Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music all require the LUFS-I to be around -15 dBFS.
If my master track hits already that threshold without touching the ReaLimit default settings, should I just lower each single track by say -6 dBFS and let the limiter rise the loudness to -15dBFS, or should I just add a simple volume control plugin, set it to about -6dBFS and put it just before the ReaLimit?

One question just rose in me: I checked with Loudness meter a professional mixed and mastered record in Reaper with this method, and I found a lot of clips at the Peak column during the song (and +0.5 peak sometimes!). Is it a mistake (we speak of a famous band here and the record is from 2013), or is it left intentionally during the mastering process? I'm uncertain it is right or wrong?

There is definitely a point in going over -14. In that case, it's not loudness we're going for, but reduced dynamic range and increased intensity. If you mastered a tech death metal track, for instance, to -14 it would sound weak and sparse. Music like that actually needs that crushed feeling. But I agree, choosing anything over -14 simply for the sake of loudness is dumb, given that a large majority of music is consumed on normalized streaming platforms these days.

So am I correct in understanding that the Threshold changes the signal level by the inverse amount (eg a Threshold setting of -2dB increases the signal by 2dB), and then flattens anything at 0dB? So it's like the Threshold moves where the 0dB line sits relative to the waveform, and flattens anything at the new 0dB?

Some good stuff here; I learned some more about limiting! I am searching for the lowest latency limiters to use for streaming. I am sending audio via reaRoute to OBS which is receiving through an ASIO input. I realized it was all the limiters on my various drum inputs causing latency around 40ms, but it would vary causing a huge headache. Sorry if this is already answered! Maybe I should just learn to use reaComp as a limiter?

I have to say, I'm mildly disappointed that the "true peak" toggle was just for metering and not for actual true peak limiting. This thing could've easily replaced my go-to limiter if it did

If you can't find this plug in under "add fx"... re-scan for vsts!! You have to go into preferences, scroll down to "plugins" and select "vsts" ...then re-scan!!! This might seem obvious to those of you who already knew this, but I've never had to "re-scan" for any internal reaper plugins... I don't even know where reaper has to look for ITS OWN plugins, but they're not in any of my folders for third party plugins!! This is why it made no sense to me to have to scan or re-scan, because I don't even have a "reaper" plugins path in my path list... but when I re-scanned there was REALIMIT!!!! Hope this saves some people some time!!! (If you have "scan for plugins on start up" enabled, then you don't have go into preferences... It'll just be there next time your restart reaper).

Hi everyone! I have a problem like REAPER starts rendering project on startup. How can I disable it? Render queue is empty. Thanks in advance.
