      Was thinking of putting a cross-hair gunsight on the front. Aim it at your destination point then just go for it - in a straight line of course.

      Most definitely not.

      I was also thinking of making a fake satnav in the control box with messages a bit like this: Please drive straight for 364 miles, then stop and make a right turn..........and so on

      I wouldn't say unobtainium. Everything in it has been bought online at some time or another.

    Good to see you had protective gear on! :-)

    • @XenonJohnD
      @XenonJohnD  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The main protective safety design feature is the seat runs full length which stops your nether regions being ripped forwards under the handlebar bracket should you slide forward on the seat a little! I recommend a full length seat.

    omg, awesome! wish you had some offroad (non flat gound) video, what incline can you climb? I guess the motors are the limiting factor?

    • @XenonJohnD
      @XenonJohnD  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Partly limited by motor power although is deliberately low geared right now as I was not sure how much torque would be needed just to turn the track. Eventually the rear wheel slips inside the track as not interlocked with it like in a real tank. However this is offset by having nearly all the weight of rider over this rear wheel.

  • @Lofi-.-beats
    @Lofi-.-beats 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    but wait, can it turn? in the video it only shows the Monotrack bike going straight. the only implied turn was at 5:23, where John changes his Center of mass to the left, making the vecter turn left.

    • @XenonJohnD
      @XenonJohnD  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No it can't turn hence the name the Vector, as in vector - graphics (made up of straight lines, think the 80's Asteroids game, or the Star Wars arcade game). The strategy is to pick a way-point and aim for that, then find another and so on :)

    • @Lofi-.-beats
      @Lofi-.-beats 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@XenonJohnD ok, it really looked like you turned . however, would there be any way to do something to the vector to use my explanation?

    Electric Unicycles are already a thing for a reason lol

    • @XenonJohnD
      @XenonJohnD  ปีที่แล้ว

      I will go back to this one day with much more power and the ability to self balance upright on the rear driven wheel - just because it would look cool to do a permanent wheelie even when stationary!

  • @benjamind7290
    @benjamind7290 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Cool! What power is the motor? Is steering done by weight shift?

    • @XenonJohnD
      @XenonJohnD  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Motor is nominally rated at 500Watt. Originally from a golf cart and seems to be very well made compared to current budget DC motors. Steering was meant to be done by weight shift but actually it stubbornly refuses to turn. By sel-balancing it on rear wheel just for turns, it might turn more like the unicycles do (curving the contact patch with the ground). Future experiment.....

      Size is limited by the circumference of the tyre. Tyre is used as a track because any other form of track tends to be expensive and this was built for fun with no idea if it would even move or not.

    Great project!
    Could you provide some dimensions of the frame?

    • @XenonJohnD
      @XenonJohnD  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly everything is worked out backwards from the tyre. Put the wheels inside, stretch them out so tyre is tight around them and then dimensions of frame will be clear to you. Start off with it a touch too long then gradually move the bearing points inwards. If you notice my rear wheel adjusts backwards in a way similar to how the chain tension on rear of a motorbike is adjusted by moving rear wheel back on an adjuster.

  • @createinvent
    @createinvent 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    That is pretty rad, thumbs up! Is the adjustment piece shown around 2:18 on both sides, or just the side shown? Guessing that grips the axle and pulls it tight?

    • @XenonJohnD
      @XenonJohnD  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The adjuster is each side and moves rear wheel backwards a bit like on some motor bikes to tension the chain. In my case you put track on from side then you move rear wheel backwards around 6cm or so to put some tension inside the track to lessen risk of it just falling off the side of the wheels. You then separately tension the chain drive by adjusting motor position like adjusting alternator on a car.

    @noahbartholomew932 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You would be able to steer it if your track was rounded instead of flat

    • @XenonJohnD
      @XenonJohnD  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree, we need to make the rollers out of Rugby balls ideally (or American footballs). Could also try overinflating the go-kart tyres so they bulge in the middle.

    How to turn in this bike

    • @XenonJohnD
      @XenonJohnD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It doesn't really turn hence the name Vector as in Vector Graphics - think of how the images in the classic 80's game Asteroids were drawn on the green screen

      @XenonJohnD  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You stop, correct your course and go again. I thought of putting a compass and a sight on it. It is called the Vector after vector-graphics (remember the 80's Asteroids, Tank Battle and Star Wars games made up of loads of straight lines directly drawn on the monitor screen).
