    The Illusionist brought me here. That was freaking awesome

    The real secret to this trick was how far ahead of its time it was. To think turn of the 19th century , to have something this complex in that small of an object when most people had never even seen anything mechanical in there life smaller then a train .

    I’ve heard about this but didn’t think I’d see it (didn’t know if a working copy still existed!) So neat to see it and think about how the audience would have reacted back in the day! What a marvelous illusion!

      Watch the movie illusionist, I think the people back in the day would have a similar feeling to the audience of that movie ^-^ great movie btw, brought me here cause I just had to see if it was based on a real trick

    • @SavageGreywolf
      @SavageGreywolf 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@saki1333 yeah, the trick in the movie is pure CGI but the way it looks is the way people would have remembered it back then, as if it was sprouting and growing before their eyes.
      Piff the Magic Dragon did a joke video about the forward progress of technology and its effect on illusion where he recreated Copperfield's disappearing Statue of Liberty but with CGI, it's pretty funny to watch.

    That was fantastic for so many reasons, the imagination, the tinkering, the style, and I love the presentation that sort of transports me back to those days. I was in awe, and I can only imagine what it felt like to see it back then! Amazing!

    It makes me think of the Mango tree appearance illusion in India, the secret passed down through families here and very rare to see it performed live. Even magicians in India don't know the secret.

    In the movie The Ilusionist, the trick was begun with a single orange seed. That's Hollywood. A little dramatic embellishment.

    The Marvels Orange Tree illusion was invented before Harry Houdini, by Jean Eugène Robert-Houdin, a French illusionist and the father of modern magic, who wrote the book: "The secrets of conjuring and magic". Anyway, this illusion, created in the 19th century, is one of Robert-Houdin's most famous inventions and illustrates his skill in combining mechanics and magic.
    In the illusion, an orange tree "grows" on stage, its flowers turn into fruit, and eventually oranges appear on the branches. This was one of the first illusions to integrate sophisticated mechanisms and visual tricks, marking a revolution in the style of magic shows.
    Robert-Houdin. He originally started out as a watchmaker. He received three books on watchmaking, but when he opened the package, it turned out that the books were about magic. That's how he became a magician and one of the leading magicians in the history of magic. So influential was he that, after writing books like this one, he inspired a young Hungarian who read this old book. This young Hungarian was named Erik Weisz, and being so impressed, he decided to become a magician, calling himself Houdini. The name Houdini comes from the famous French magician Robert-Houdin, to whom he added a personal touch.
