Tyler Verner - As a young man, just turned 18, I got a job at Disneyland in the Frontierland Operations Department as a ride operator. Each day I would go to work early and I would stop by the Main Street Magic Shop to watch the Lead Magician, Steve Schreiner, perform for the guests in the magic shop. We became friends and when I turned 21, he invited me to go with him to the Magic Castle in Hollywood where your great-grandfather, Dai, was the Magician-In-Residence and headliner in the Close-Up Room. Through my friend Steve, who’s was closer in age to Dai than to me, I got to sit at a private table for magicians only. I was actively studying magic by that point. Dai was at the table along with Al Goshman and Jimmy Ravel. Mr. Ravel was a magician and the developer/vendor of the Ravel Chop Cup, which are still available in magic shops today, and Al Goshman (Magic by Gosh) was there with his sponge ball routine. Anyway, your great-grandfather was very gracious and even though I was not a member of the Castle, he treated me as an apprentice magician and gave me a private showing, along with Jimmy Ravel and Al Goshman, of their talents. To this day, and I am nearing 70, that remains a bright memory of my youth. Today, in a local paper called The Paper, they printed a large article done by a local writer on The Magic Castle. It made me think of that night and I went to TH-cam to see if Dai was featured and was happy to see him. I saw the very same routine while sitting with him at a table. Great memory. Your great-grandfather was a very nice man and someone to be proud of.
vernonclassic you got to meet him and you fool him with a trick , that's awesome , was the trick original ( I'm curious as to what you fooled him with ) 👍
In -theory- I know how he's doing it. In -practice-, for the life of me, I can NOT see the sleights! Magnificently smooth! And I love his patter, too. As the previous poster said - it's like he's just sitting there shooting the BS with you and not performing at all. Brilliant!
He was easily the greatest magician of the 20th Century. Today's magicians will eventually be even greater because they have the video example of his technique to work from instead of written description. Its a shame he never got the recognition he really deserved when people like Chris Angel and so on are much much famous but haven't one tenth the ability.
Thanks for posting this clear version. There are so few opportunities to see The Professor actually perform live. Thanks for giving us that opportunity.
His greatest routine...the cups and balls. This is one of his very best performances on television and worthy of lengthy study. Even then no one will come even close. Brilliant. Awesome. Awe inspiring. Makes you want to give up.
There have been a lot of professional magicians I have had the pleasure of watching live in performance, and many who gave lectures teaching their methods. But there was only ONE Professor of Magic, and I had the distinct pleasure of seeing him lecture for FOUR hours in Hartford Connecticut back in the 70s. He was in his EIGHTIES at that time, and he could still do some of the hardest sleight of hand techniques. Among other things, he blew us all away with his one handed top palm.
He certainly did have family. His son is quoted as saying, "As a father, Dai, made a great magician." It could be apocryphal but that is the quote in the magic community.
He was the guy who rediscovered and perfected so many tricks and swindles all kinds of never-do-wells had employed and made them legitimate, well-structured craft. No need to scam people out of their money if you can just show that you can do that and show it with great level of humor and skill.
Dai Vernon is a Legend, the fact that young Magicians are doing his routines (especially Triumph) without even knowing the Name Dai Vernon is just awesome and the fact that every Cups and Balls Routine Ive seen over the Years has most of Dai Vernons Cups and Balls (if not the whole Routine) RIP Professor
I totally agree about the Triumph bit, but Vernons Cups and balls routine is largely Max malinis. Dai states this fact on Revelations. That aside, it's a damn shame modern aspiring magicians are gravitating less to essentially who was the greatest.
I'm not entirely sure if any from outside the UK has heard of a British illusionist, mentalist, painter, writer, and sceptic called Derren Brown. Although his talents are very diverse he's one of the best performers today and definitely worth a watch. Derren's the reason I'm watching Dai and he also mentions many other Magicians (mostly Victorian) throughout his special shows on channel 4.
@MrMoRahman do you know what sleight of hand means? have you ever seen him doing a sleight of hand trick? i bought his ultimate kit (which sucks) and when i saw him perform the tricks...well, i felt like i am watching my self at the mirror when i was a beginner at magic
He was known as "The Profesor" for any reason xD, as you see...looks so simple, so natural, so easy to understant what is he explaining...he was a genius.
Only after several close examinations could I see him placing the big balls in the cups....he was very smooth and obviously very skilled at this illusion.
I’m not a magician, I dont want to be a magician, but as a fan of craftsmanship and dedication WOW. This dude is the shit 👌 I can’t believe he wasted 6 years of his life though, that’s sad.
I'd love to see a performance of Vernon when he was some years younger. He's just brilliant, but you already see his age coming through a bit. He must have been more than brilliant some time before that
Dai Vernon is a legend. This was just perfect.
"I wasted the first six years of my life."
I'm...speechless.
Fucking legendary
@@thesoundvault508 dai vernon loved magic a lot

Such a sweet comment. Like many of us, I wanted to be a magician when I was a kid. ❤❤

vernonclassic wow can you tell me more of what he was like?
Thanks for a clear version of the same video.
Younger generation magicians no longer have the talent of the old ones.

Seriously it don't matter just enjoy it for goodness sake

I've seen that trick a million times and I never thought it would wow me again... Boy, was I wrong.
My mind exploded at the last 10 seconds
I think that's what he was going for. He lured them in made them feel confident, then shattered their entire paradigm. Brilliant.
Hooow did he do it

Wow....when he showed the other hand.....blew me away. A Master truly
Thank you for sharing your magical performances
RIP Dai Vernon and Mark Wilson
Seen a hundred versions or more of cups and balls and yet his final loads still floored me. Wow
I think it is one of the best routines of cups and balls!

Beautifully done with a number of understatements !
The greatest magician of the 20th century. Period.
Arguably the most knowledgeable and best sleight of hand artist ever graced the earth! 🌎
The best of the best.....Master Magician!
What a wonderfully respectful introduction the host gave for him!
damn, he's amazing!!!!
I would have loved to have seen him perform in person.
It's just always insane. You can watch it a thousand times and it's still insane.
That Vernon wand spin. Amazing.
Dai Vernon is amazing. Thanks for the high res version.
just the way that it looks like he's not even performing but actually just bs'ing....that makes this routine so much better
He is the magicians magician. The professor.
The mast part blew me away. This guy is incredibly talented ! 🙏
It was great. Don't know where the three big balls came from. Loved it. You did a great job rosy and I loved it.
He certainly did have family. His son is quoted as saying, "As a father, Dai, made a great magician." It could be apocryphal but that is the quote in the magic community.
i learned alot from alot of his books... brilliant man who knows his stuff
Thanks for uploading it in hi-res! But even if the performance is in good quality u can't see how it's done... It's amazing.
This man is a genius!
I wish I could go back in the past and just talk to this genius
Vernon: Well that's how that's done!
Me: I still have no idea what the hell just happened
Love this video! He's a great inspiration!
Jesuuuuuussss.........absolutely breathtakingly amazing...
This guy is amazing...wow...too good.

Best ive seen done!!!
the master at work.
Yeah, Tamariz is awesome. His work on the memorized deck is the best stuff I've read.
HIGH RES VERSION - 240p
Vernon was certainly a legend....
he spent much of his years researching and looking for different sleights and moves... amazing history

+Michael Rochford But they are though
that was the cleanest performance I have ever seen.
best person at slight of hand ever!!!!!
every trick is amazing by dai vernon
wow, thats amazing! Great performance and misdirection! what a pro!
oh Dai, thank you for your wise teachings over your years. :(
My name is Tyler Verner, I am proud to say that this is my great grandfather.
What's really fun is to impersonate him while doing one of your acts and see who gets it. You can immediately spot all the magicians in the room lol
Everybody who is anybody in magic does a Vernon impression. I met him once-so I’m entitled😀
The REAL: magic would be to actually view 240p as "high" resolution! LOL.

Charming patter and perfect delivery.
this is really amazing i am also a magician but i never seen this kind of slight of hand this is awesome
thanks for the quality
Who gives Dai Vernon a thumbs down!?
Different class altogether, even when you know how it's done you still can't see the sleight of hand.
What a lovely man.
For those interested in more like this, watch Ricky Jay and his 52 assistants. It’s tremendous
BLOODY MAGNIFICENT!
Wtf...bravo!!! Es todo un profesor de la magia.
Super!!!Perfekt!!...its Magic
love di vernon a true legend of magic
@Orangeflava
I know but if you look carefully you can kinda guess....it's so quick and artistic, it's nothing short of brilliant
@MrMoRahman
do you know what sleight of hand means?
have you ever seen him doing a sleight of hand trick?
i bought his ultimate kit (which sucks) and when i saw him perform the tricks...well, i felt like i am watching my self at the mirror when i was a beginner at magic

Brilliant!
Master of the masters.
He was known as "The Profesor" for any reason xD, as you see...looks so simple, so natural, so easy to understant what is he explaining...he was a genius.
Still my favourite and the best (IMO) Cups and Balls ever.
The greatest!
Only after several close examinations could I see him placing the big balls in the cups....he was very smooth and obviously very skilled at this illusion.
At 78 years of age!
He's so good the audience doesn't even get the first two jokes
Tyler, your grandfather was a Master Magician. Be very proud of him.
"i'm going to do one last maneuver with these little balls" if i had a nickel for every time I've said that...
Very good pick
Here after Penn and Teller mentioned him
Una muestra de el Gran Artista de la Magia; El Profesor Dai Vernon.
He had an entire family- Two sons, a wife.... He just loved magic more.
Amazing.
I’m not a magician, I dont want to be a magician, but as a fan of craftsmanship and dedication WOW. This dude is the shit 👌 I can’t believe he wasted 6 years of his life though, that’s sad.
@AceofDlamonds you have to guess, you cant know unless you're a magician, that is brilliant already.
Amazing!
caught it all but the end, was pretty good
Tyler Verner, yolur great grandfather is a GRAND MASTER!!
@reitz50 Do you have Torret's?
he could still do a good wand spin vanish at 78 , so awesome. PS R.I.P professor 👏😐
He was born in Ottawa as David Frederick Wingfield Verner.
dai was allegedly the master but have you seen michael ammar??, he is both the apprentice and the master,
i met him in 2006, twice
The audience were lost, they didn't appreciate true skill. Mind you they didn't see him after he had about 10 whiskeys either!
even though i know how the trick is done. i'm always amazed at how it's performed by a professional because their sleight of hand is amazing.
I'd love to see a performance of Vernon when he was some years younger.
He's just brilliant, but you already see his age coming through a bit. He must have been more than brilliant some time before that
