Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with a video. I have a 2004 G35 with 51000 miles on it and it overheated yesterday. Your video helped me a bunch I TRULY APPRECIATE YOUR TIME AND EFFORT. Ken in Vegas
Thank you! My Infinti overheated a couple of weeks ago so I parked it, and put off the thermostat replacement till yesterday. Your video was really helpful, and showed how is simple the job really is. My 2006 G35 no longer overheats! Your video is great. It would have been helpful to give the torque for the 3 bolts on the housing but it's easy to look up online.
Good video. Also, the Infiniti G35 shop manual (July 2005 revision) lists the torque spec for the thermostat assembly mounting bolts to be 8.4 - 10.8 N-m (75 - 95 inch-pounds).
Ok, car is running a little hotter every day with no obvious leaks. Used the heater to cool it down which really sucks in south Florida. So I started to troubleshoot a little. After the engine cooled, I took off the radiator cap and accelerated the engine and the coolant shot up so I believe my pump is still good. Both fans turn on and speed up. So I think it's the thermostat. I purchased a new thermostat, housing and gasket. After watching this video, I'm going to swap them out.Now wish me luck!
Thanks for the video Brody, I replaced my thermostat and radiator last week but believe they sent me a faulty thermo stat, but wasn't entirely sure if I needed to remove the fans just to get to the thermo, looks like a no, thanks big brodi
Ddemier thank you so much for posting your comment. I was replacing the radiator on a 04 g35 yesterday. After I was done the car was overheating and because
Great video thanx a lot, but i dont think u need to remove the bottom plastic sheild. Just take some rags and let it rest on the belts so that when coolant pours out it gets absorbed by the rags
Hundreds of people are killed each year when cars/trucks come off the jack or the jack fails. :( Yes, please use jack stands before you get under the car.
Thanks for the video. But if you do this or anything that you need to drain coolant, you will have to burp the coolant system or you will have overheating and gurgling problems.
one question that was asked by 2 persons and was not answered is: what issue led you to change the thermostat? was your fan running all the time? hopefully, i get the answer. nice video by the way, I spent a whole lot of time on google image and was not finding anything.
Two problems with a defective thermostat, problem a driver point of view. * Temperature Gauge never reach to normal operation temperatures, under 11 - 16 minutes - takes long to get heat in the winter times. - top heater hose (top cooling hose) is warm after passed 25+ minutes. - place hand or touch quickly to see if hose is warm to hot (7 to 25 minutes). - an external laser temperature reading gun can be pointed at hose. - thermostat is stuck open. ** Temperature Gauge needle jump high very quick;y - engine gets hot very quickly (open up the hood) - fan comes on (if it is still working). Fan can also be defective by running all those time to cool the engine. - top heater hose is still cold or not even hot after 25+ minutes. - you can remove the radiator cap, start the car and observe the coolant from the radiator neck to see if coolant bubble/boiling up and out of the neck of the radiator. - thermostat is stuck in the closed positions. Both problems mean it need to be replaced. Very common problem with ATG/Bentley/Ferrari/Lambo. Because they are built and made to run, not sitting still in a traffic jams.
Exactly, Needle jumps to hot when therm should open after about 10-15 min of idle, therm is stuck closed OR your G takes 10-15 min to get hot air out of the heater- therm is stuck open... stuck open is not nearly as risky as stuck closed...if your G(or any other auto) is stored for a while, Thermostats get sticky from corrosion and fail.
is it ok to bypass the thermostat, i have mo more thermostat in my car i cancel it, i live in a place where always the temperature is high and we run ac all time
What is the purpose of changing out your thermostat? I have a 2003 Infiniti g35 coupe and mine keeps overheating a lot do you recommend changing out the thermostat? Will that help?
Just use caution when you open the cooling system up on these Infiniti G35's. Trying to get all the air out and purge/burp the system is more difficult than most cars. There is a purge/burp valve philips over by the battery compartment. Still could get bubble down in heater core like I did some how.
Yea the stealership will get you. I have had the lights wet sanded and polished it just eventually comes back. the way I new the thermostat was bad, was because the car was over heating and there were no coolant leaks.
I have a question my g35 was overheating so I changed the radiator and the thermostat and its still overheating. The heater isn't working for some reason either any idea what it might be?
hey dude i have an issue with my 2009 g37 it does not cool while stoped or idle once you drive it cools i changed the compresor changed the ac high presure switch with the conector and im still haveing the same issue.
I have an 04 g35 sedan. I bought a battery back in february of this year and I didnt start the car often therefore the battery went completely dead. I tried jumping it a few weeks ago and it would crank but wouldnt turn over. I took it to the shop to get tested and it was dead. They charged it for me as well. I then tried installing it in my car and got spark from both terminals but the car has absolutely NO power. None of the electronics went on, neither did the alarm. Please help.
i have 350Z 2003 need a video or some help with changing passenger side engine head has a little lifter noise !! any one with advice ?or i need to change the hole head ??
My thoughts exactly! But to give him benefit of the doubt, his car was 11 yrs old, so I'd imagine he'd probably just want to have it done as a preventative. Who knows, or maybe he just want to change the thermostats for the sake of having a "changing the themostat" video. LOL
I owned a Nissan V35 same car without the Infiniti rebadge and right hand drive. The VQ35DE is an engine notorious for over heating with little effort. Most times it will over heat after free way driving then you hit a traffic jam and it will overheat within 2 minutes from slow moving traffic. Most people think its a thermostat problem but the whole cooling system from stock is pretty shot. I changed out my thermostat for the nismo one which opens up at a lower temperature and changed all my plumbing to mishimoto and put in a mishimoto radiator with dual fans. I personally believe that the stock fans aren't enough to pull sufficient air through the radiator during low speeds or stand stills after longer periods of driving. If your trying to diagnose a thermostat problem yourself the car temperature will generally do two things. 1.) it will heat up from start and keep heating up past the optimum water temperature till boil over. 2.) the thermostat will randomly close during normal driving and your car will boil over even if the radiator is receiving sufficient airflow.
+Kassie Pharr my g35 was over heating ... everything looked to be working fine but over heating ...i changed my thermostat my self thanks to the vid and stop over heating
It's useful to mention that there is an air bleed valve near the passenger side firewall. It should be opened to remove air during coolant fill.
How do you remove it if the valve was stripped

Thanks for the upload bro. I'll be doing this same exact job in the next few days. Really useful video for G35 owners.

Thank you for making my life easier. I had hard time to find the thermostat on my 2005 G35x until I watched ur video

Thanks to you; going to do this tomorrow. Thank's.
"These bolts should be torqued to spec"
Yeah but why would you not include said spec in your tutorial...
because that's a known given.
I'm pretty sure that the 7.5 foot pound torque spec is not common knowledge for people watching this video.
I need to buy a torque wrench and tighten to 7.5?
But did you see average guy check the torque?
Hello guys, the service Manual specifies to torque housing bolt to (75-99) in-lb.
The hardest thing was taking off the hose I had to use 10 W 40 and a flat screwdriver to help pull off the hose.
Try giving the hose a twist with channel locks once the hose clamp is pulled back...you will feel the seal break....

Andre King yes

Probably your water pump. I'd take a look at that. Possible that the impeller is chewed up and not flowing enough coolant through the engine.
Use that air bleed valve and top off the coolant!
