Having just bought Logic Pro X (and looking to buy the best step pro) I found this both useful and overwhelming. Thanks for the video. I’ll have to save it until I understand both better. On a side note, being able to audition sounds on the fly like this seems like an incredible basic feature the was overlooked in DAWs in general.

Well, that's next weekend gone! - Will be working this out. Thanks to Nick and Yoad for sharing.
My first question has to be - has Yoad's version of Logic been reskinned? It has an Ableton Live look about it, and the ESX24 looks a LOT better!!

With a view to live performance, using Pajens Custom Firmware for the Korg Volca Sample you can do the same with the BSP setting all the pots to CC:50 and each on a different midi channel as per the Volca Samples midi channels. Using the pads in control mode you can "preview" the sound just like this video, once you have set those to notes on each of the separate midi channels. I have set all the drum notes as 60 on each of the different channels on the BSP's setting.

Great video for the insight into a professional musicians workflow. However, as this is on Logic 9, I cant help wondering if you could do this a bit easier in Logic X using Track stacks or midi effects. Maybe not but it would avoid messing around with the ‘Enviroment’.

Managed to make this work. It's a lot of fun. Now I'd like to add a bit of control over the sounds so ideally be able to map say 8 Midi knobs to as many parameters on the EXS24 (i.e. Filter, Envelope etc). Is there a way of having these knobs control the same parameters on different EXS's? (i.e. change Filter with Knob1 on the first EXS-Kick then quickly move on to the second EXS-snare and have the same knob change the Filter there too).

You're one of the only people that claim to get to this to work on their own rig. I'm noticing that what Yoad is showing on video is not quite what he's supplying in the download. The download is missing the 2nd Note PF object and the Ctl PF object at the end of the chain. Unfortunately, the Sonicstate guy cut him off just as Yoad was about to explain/show that object. I suspect it has, along with the 2nd Beatstep Input object, something to do with capturing the playback MIDI to continue allowing the changing of cc-to-note values AFTER recording? Is that how this is configured, in 2 parts? Part 1 (before transformation) takes the Beatstep hardware input, and Part 2 also takes the Logic playback as input? Can you share any issues, or what you discovered when you tried to adapt this to your rig?

I think this is an issue that would have to be addressed with the receiving device, no? If the device doesn't have the ability to change note value in response to MIDI signal, there's nothing a sequencer can do about it. The beatstep is already sending the MIDI value corresponding to the knobs' positions, its a matter of the receiving device to respond to those values.

Hi there, thanks for video but it is a little complicated for me and I have a question : I have beatstep pro and Arturia drumbrute, the voice of each instrument of drumbrute is a little dry and I want to asign for example reverb or delay to my kick or clap individually (I want it for a live performance). I want to know if I can have 8 input from drumbrute to beatstep (drum channel of beatstep) and then can I have 8 audio track in my daw (Ableton live 10 ) from my beatstep to asign different vsts like delay and reverb to each sound of my drumbrute instruments like kick or clap. (actually I don't have an 8 channel audio cart to do it ). Please help me, thanks alot.

Does anyone have some kind of step-by-step guide to this for someone who is relatively new to MIDI and hasn't been using the environment for years? It's really hard to get familiar with the environment 'cause there is no manual anywhere except for a really old one.
