  • Hello here is a video showing how to bypass the hood switch and still have your factory auto start working.
    vehicle in video is a 2019 gmc 2500hd but is the same switch for most if not all of the gm truck line
    Caution tampering with the electrical system of your vehicle is a risky thing and could render your vehicle inoperable if done incorrectly do at your own risk.
    with bypass in place you will be able to use your auto start when hood is open so if anyone is to be working on your vehicle they need to know that so they know to disconnect the battery.
    items used 2.2k resistor
    amzn.to/490md88
    I used random 18 gauge wire I had laying around
    solder
    heat shrink for a clean install
    please give a like and subscribe it really helps the channels

    Thanks dude, just did this today, worked out great. Chevy told me the replacement hood latch was on backorder with no estimate of when it will be back in stock. I didn’t even use any extra wire, just soldered the resistor onto the tails that came out of the plug, then shrink wrapped.

    2017 GMC Sierra 2500HD and this worked perfect thank you !! We had the same issue with the hood open light on dash and lost remote start. Only difference we did as we followed your video is instead of solder iron we went with the "Kuject" brand "Solder Seal Wire Connectors". For those who aren't familiar with them, just insert both ends of bare wires into the connectors, apply heat and within seconds the connectors solder as well as shrink wrap. Found them on Amazon. Thanks for such a detailed clear video and description of what you were doing especially the heads up to Ohm test the harness first . Good job, thanks.

    My understanding is this is just a microswitch that is normally open and closes to complete the circuit when the hood is shut. Why is a resistor required at all? Can it simply be jumped using a wire? Thanks for great video!

    • @alaskagarage
      @alaskagarage  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      if you just simple connect the circuit with a wire it will get rid of the open hood warning but it won't satisfy the computer so your auto start still wont work.

    • @alaskagarage
      @alaskagarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you check the resistor to make sure it is creating the rite resistance? Is the hood latch the same type? If both are correct then your problem might be within your harness and that problem caused excess voltage going to the latch causing it to go bad.

    • @patrickmchugh8104
      @patrickmchugh8104 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You will need both wires with resistors tied into the black wire on the pigtail. One goes to the red wire, one goes to the yellow wire. This will satisfy the resistance for the BCM and ECM.

    • @alaskagarage

      It in theory should work. I did not check load to know how close it is and the resistor could go bad faster depending on the amount of load in the circuit. I have not had a single issue with the .5 w 2.2 ohm one I put in mine.

      @@alaskagarage How much should be the ideal wattage for chevrolets?

    • @alaskagarage
      @alaskagarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      I based of off the wire gauge that it is being attached to. I don't know the specific rating of the system, but they should have designed the harness for the wires to be within the rating of the expected or potential wattage and the .5 matched up to the wires its connected to. A .25 will be a very small wire and smaller resistor.

    Hello My Friend. My car is Chevy Equinox Lt 2019. My car's hood latch sensor is broken. The hood always seems open. How many ohm resistors should I use?

    • @alaskagarage
      @alaskagarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      the same resistors that were used in the video should also work for the Equinox. It is looking for a range of resistance to be satisfied. You will just have to pay attention to the plug that is being used the switch may have 3 wires coming of off it but only 2 of them are utilized in the plug. You will want the resistor beaten the 2 utilized wires to create the resistance between them .
      I hope this helps

      The ones I used were 1/2watt 2.2k. Before installing these on my truck I tried just connecting the wires together with I would not sujest you do. When I had the wires connected together it removed my hood open warning but it would not satisfy the system so auto start still did not work. You might have a diffrent model of vehicle and it might be looking for a diffrent resistance or you have another electrical gremlin somewhere else that is giving you that.
