That's the lovely thing about this series, and the entire Fate verse in general. I love Diarmuid, in fact he's honestly my favorite character of the entire Nasuverse, which is currently my number 1 fictional franchise of all time. However, you can't necessarily blame Kiritsugu for his actions. He was right, and was justified. But the same can also be said for Saber and Lancer. If there was one way to save the entire world, and that only way was to become the most heartless bastard on the face of the planet, I'd probably do it. Yet, if you do so much evil, are you really saving the world, or are you just continuing the cycle of hatred? That is why Kiritsugu's "by any means necessary" view is so interesting to me; at heart, he's truly a good guy, but the way he goes about things is slightly questionable. Artoria and Diarmuid both oppose this view, and hold deep respect for those they battle, yet that can also lead to personal weakness and failure. After that, then what's the point? There's a happy medium between honor and by any means necessary. And that was one of my favorite aspects of the show lol.
Sorry for the ramble, lol. I thought it'd be good just to appreciate how works of fiction can go so deep in their characters, that it almost seems like at the end of the day no one is truly 100% wrong. Just like in real life

his actions are very questionable, but reasons aside his approach is that of a professional, the most effective way to insure complete victory. its coldhearted and extremely unfair but so is the cold reality of life.

I feel bad for Kerry for having summoned Artoria lol. Even at the end of Zero she realized her whole ideal system is messed up because of how zerkerlot ended up due to how she ruled Britain. This is a holy grail war, you are a familiar given shape and put into a class container, you are already dead, you want to restore your country yet you take pride in chivalry, killing under the pretense of honor. You take a life in the name of your so called chivalry but do not even stop to think what it is. I'm okay with killing in anime but if you kill because of some misguided value then sorry for you, you need to be set straight.
Saber dug her grave when she was alive and now she's digging it further even after death. She's quite lucky she met Shirou in the next grail war, a master that can't pull his own weight(in the beginning anyway) so she had full discretion over what to do, another thing that helped was that most of the masters in the 5th war were just kids, so no moral gymnastics, you either do good or do bad. No doing evil in the name of good so she didn't even think much and that saved her. Lancer Artoria did a better job as king but she was pressed for time and her emotions were gone so she didn't even care about her actions in the Camelot movie.

felt so bad for lancer because he was the one servant who truly got the shaft because he didn't even get to die honorable in battle.....if Saber had killed him it would of been different for him but to have a honorable hero like him kill himself is basically like punching a shackled person in the throat and kicking them into nads at the same time

what argument? he basically destroyed her, and she implicitly agrees with him but it's not like she has a choice. she can't just drop her ideals because it's illogical. the same way kiritsugu cant just regain ideals

This right here is why I hate Kiritsugu so much. I don't care what anyone else says he's nothing more than a delusional murderer who convinces himself that he is a hero. He probably was one once but along the way, he lost himself and for that, I feel sorry for him. The end doesn't always justify the means what's the point of creating his ideal world if it's built on the corpses of the innocent? (Of course, I'm talking about the other people he killed not El-melloi). To me, he's nothing more than a hypocrite. He's no hero of justice what's that saying you either die a hero or live long enough to become a villain.

He's the kind of character I love AND hate, because he's way cooler than other boring MCs and I understand he's doing evil for greater good (also he experienced the cold reality of life more than anyone else). Still I kind of feel bad for his enemies, I liked Diarmuid for example lol.
But yeah if I need to choose I'd say I love him.

En effet, il est le seul servant de la génération Zero a avoir vu son vœux accompli. Il a bel et bien lutté jusqu'au bout pour son seigneur sans le trahir. C'est son propre vœux qu'il maudit.
Je suis d'ailleurs assez content que le visage torturé de haine et de douleur soit son visage de fin, car la légende de Diarmuid, c'est ça : Un beau gosse qui sait qu'il est irrésistible et qui, pour des intérêts personnels alors qu'il a juré servir autrui, va user de ce pouvoir... Je suis désolé mais Diarmuid est l'apogée de l'hypocrisie.
Ce n'est d'ailleurs pas pour rien qu'il fut si hypnotisée par Excalibur... Tout simplement parce que la chevalerie qu'elle représente est bien plus pure que celle qu'il arbore.

Kiritsugu is an insanely good written Character but i still fucking hate him and he Absolutely deserved his Despair at the end of the series after all he has done! Like this scene here, what was the Point of Murdering Kayneth after making this deal? He had no Servant any longer and his Magic Circuits were Crushed as well, so even if he wanted, he could have probably not done Anything in this war anymore, he Already took pretty much anything from Kayneth so what was the Point in that? In most cases, most of Kiritsugus Actions are somewhat Excuseable by saying that the Ends justify the means but this here was just Straight up Murder as they were not even Masters anymore and it didn't serve any Higher Purpose at all! Hell, even the Scummiest Mages in Fate usually Honor an unbreakable Contract which is also the Reason why i could always Vomit when he or Shirou call him an "Hero of Justice"! Like i said, he is an Extremely well written Antihero and i respect him for that but i still hate him more than Almost any other Fate character (Except for Shinji, fuck that dude)
Actually it is valid to kill Keyneth.
Command seals are transferable between people. Even if a servant is killed, the master can still summon a new servant to continue the war. It is unclear whether mages need command seals to be masters, or the seals are just meant to be limited perks during the war.
Even if everything said above did not happen, Keyneth can still cause trouble as a non-player in the war. The Pact did not state that Keyneth cannot kill Kiritsugu. Kirei is the perfect example. He "retired" when his servant was killed, but he still had command seals (in fact he gained more), Gilgamesh switched over to be his servant and he continued to cause chaos all the way to the end of the war.
The only way a master is permanently out of the war is to be killed.

1. Kayneths Magic Circuits were Toast anyway, so even if he would have found a Second Servant it would have been Severely weakened as he could barely use Magic anymore
And 2. He could have added anything of that in the Contract, he could have just included that Kayneth must force his Servant to Suicide and that he has to leave the Country or that he can't rejoin the war

@@alrest8060 Yes, AFTER kiritsugu blew up a Building to kill Kayneth! I'm not even mad THAT he killed him as this is Pretty normal in this Type of Conflict but Rather how he did it as it's really scummy to Break an Unbreakable Vow and shoot someone from the Back that isn't even a Master anymore!
Technically he didn't break the vow xd, besides Kayneth was still a master, if I'm not mistaken the same thing happened with Kotomine, he used all his seals but he was still qualified to obtain the grail.Also, he used that method because if he tried to kill Kayneth he could call Diarmud to defend him and kill Kiritsugu, he was smart.
And lastly, even if Kiritsugu didn't destroy the building, Kayneth was still going to try to kill Kiritsugu because as they said before, as long as you have seals or are selected by the grail, you can still participate, and even if you don't get another servant, you can still interfere, like sharing information with the remaining master for example, so your "He could order him to leave the country" example doesn't make sense.

As it specifically mentioned Kiritsugu would and should not even be able to intend to harm Archibald.
Yet he ordered his apprentice to kill him either way.
Even if he gave the order way before signing the contract, its magic should have somehow forced him to recall the order, or maim/kill Kiritsugu for knowingly doing so either way.
Magic contracts are garbage it seems.
It's more like a deal with the devil. Does only what is written, not what is just. And yeah - it can't be overcome.
The Geass contract only does what's written. It says there that "Emiya Kiritsugu will not kill Lord El Melloi." If it says "Emiya Kiritsugu and his company will not kill Lord El Melloi" then Maiya won't be able to kill him too.
The binding forbid him to take any action that harm him, not to undo actions already done, and maya was ordered to kill them before it was signed i guess

Technically Kiritsugu never gave any sort of instruction to Maiya, before or after. She simply anticipated Kiritsugu's intentions based on their history together.
As far as the contract is concerned, Maiya acted entirely on her own.
