On June 30, 2013 I lost 4 friends and fellow wildland FFs that day. The film makers did justice to my friends and the Actors did so well on the mannerisms of these guys I had the honor of working on the Cave creek complex before they were IMHC,Dragon fire and a few smaller fires. Many emotions on the days following, many questions. Thank you #RIP19

@@mrhead6856 They did. Down to the last transmission... And the bear, running, through the fire... on fire. I don't think it could have been more beautiful. I hope all the ones who knew and loved these men find some comfort in life... And knowing that they will never be forgotten. That they have and continue to inspire people from all walks of life, all over the world. I'm just a woman from New York. No connection to the fire fighting community... But I feel like it's imperative for me to remember this and them. That in doing so, it might not just guide myself to find meaning in life but that it might also be spread to others. I'm not religious, but I've discovered a deep reservoir of spirituality in learning about these men, their lives and how they so readily put them on the line for others and ultimately made the biggest sacrifice. I think we need only look to people like this to guide ourselves in the current climate of the world. As the Dixie fires rage on right this second... The second largest ever in California. My hearts go out to the men that are out there right now. And if death is not the end, the 19 are surely there with the men who continue the fight.

There were so many emotionally moving scenes in this movie to me, having had the privilege of working with the Texas Canyon ‘shots in the Angeles during the season in 1979. The scene of the bear running out of the fire, on fire also hit me hard. During a fire at Castaic lake, a jack rabbit ran right past me on the line, smothered in flames, causing spot fires as it ran. It was such a haunting memory I will never forget. I will also never forget these 19 brave men and their families. Heavenly Father, please bless them all with the comfort that they will meet again in heaven.

My boyfriend is a wildland firefighter, we saw this film together and we both agree he did that job the justice it deserves 💖💖
This movie has touched me deeply. I’m an EMT and always wish I could have been a firefighter. I have worked alongside firefighters on my calls. I have dedicated myself to train for the hike to the granite mountain hot shot trail. I want to pay my respects. They are true heroes.

What's so amazing to me is the fact that this is one time again out of only 4 movies that come to mind is how the actors so closely resemble those men that passed away in such a horrifying way 😢.that just looked so much like those brave men they portrayed in such a heart felt and wrenching. Film RIP granite mountain heroes and donut the lone survivor .may the rest in the Lord's ever lasting peace.

Hello everyone from Russia, I was shocked by the story about these guys, real heroes!
And I am very proud of America for honoring its heroes. In this country, patriotism has a paramount notion of honor and conscience. I am very sorry that in my country everything is "a little" different. We make films, but they are not about real heroes ... and patriotism is not more than just a word.
Battle for Sevastopol about Lyudmila Pavlichenko, a Russian film, is one of the most incredible movies I've ever seen. Very patriotic, and an incredible story about the most deadly female sniper in history. Patriotism is there. You just have to look for it, I feel. My father has been to Russia many, many times.

Being on a Hotshot crew I can't imagine losing my bestfriend brothers. Being on a crew 21 hard working men you know everything about them. You spend all season with them an including off-season working out with them. Having cookouts with each other's family and simply just hanging out. When I watched this movie it was a touching movie and Brandon Mcdonough. He is strong individual also the 45 pound pack is a minimum us Hotshots we always carry more. When I weighed my bag last season is came out to 70 pounds depending could be little more at times. My prayers for the family and friends of the Granite Mountain Hotshots.
Technically the yellow shirts and green pants are standard for most wildland outfits, made of nomex.
We have them here in Australia (Im an aussie Wildland Firefighter) and out Bunkers are also Yellow.
We will never forget!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I purchased the film, I can’t imagine the hell they went through! The film itself caused me to break down in tears, Godbless the men and women that put their lives on the line for others!

I watched this film 4 times in a row...why? Because of the character development. I never completely understood what Hot Shots did until this film nor realized just how dangerous it is. I felt like I got to know this band of brothers a little, and wish so much I could actually know them. It's an EXCELLENT film and should have won Best Picture. Anyway...to the mother who didn't want the film made about her son...maybe in time, you'll be able to watch it, maybe never. Just know that most of the country would not know anything about what your son did, nor the others had it not been for this film. Those nineteen guys were so special...all firefighters are and I am glad I know particularly about the Granite Mt Hot Shots! kl xoxooxoxxooxxo

406 Bullrider the producers? Yea I can believe that even though I didn’t see what it did at the box office and I don’t know what the budget was, I can guess they didn’t make their money back. Then there’s every single other person who worked on the movie and got paid to do so including a few big name actors who I’m guessing got paid from hundreds of thousands on the bottom end to millions on the upper. You do know actors and HUNDREDS of other people get paid to make movies right?

Andrew Fresquez I gave your reply the thumbs up because your in the right direction but your aim is a little off as well. I have been a Wildland FireFighter since I was 18 (1999) years old, with the exception of the last two Fire seasons...well firstly, PPE Gear for structure and Wildland are completely different from the other, for Wildland it consists of yellow and greens, a good pair of whites boots (strongly recommended) but Carolinas will do PPE gloves, hard hat and I’d prefer a full brimmed, line gear, spot weather kit, tool and radio, two canteens of water plus 8 bottles of water and maybe 1 Gatorade. That is how I roll when I’m out there and whatever you take with you, you take it back out, it’s called pack it in, pack it out. The hours are more like 16-18 hours and a dispatch deployment is 14 days but depending on resources and severity, it could also be 21 days...14 days straight, 2 days R&R and hit it for another 7 days. The 2000 Fire season, on a deployment...there was one fire where we had to dig line for the whole 14 days, that was here...in Montana. We had to dig line until our line connected to a crews line from Canada then there was a time where we packed hose the whole 14 days also...that sucked. Being a Wildland FireFighter is not an easy gig but I gotta give RESPECT to Wildland FireFighters and Volunteer Firefighters...Brothers in both worlds

Real Heros dont like being called a hero and certainly dont call themselves a hero ! Real Hero's do a heroic thing and go on with their life without having to pat themselves on the back when others wont. Real hero's wear lots of different uniforms and no uniform at all. Heroic actions happen . But someone doing the job they do everyday doesnt make them a Hero. Its doing something that is out of ordinary and above and beyond duty and expectation that provides others opportunity they wouldnt have without that act of Heroism . That can be anything from kind caring words that boost the moral of someone sad to saving someones life . I get really tired of hearing how someone who is just doing their job is a Hero. Firefighters , Police , Military , School Teachers etc etc etc often are turned into Hero's through the act of a Heroic deed but there are far to many people in every profession who are anything but Heroic and can even be called evil. So there is no Hero label that comes with a profession. That label comes when a Person deserves it ! Im a combat wounded Veteran, former Fire / Rescue professional and Current Law Enforcement Professional . I do my job and my job is what I do . Am I Hero , No . I am a man that does his job . My job may entail doing things others can't and won't but I can . Thats why its my job . But that definitely doesnt make me a Hero. But I know a few folks I consider Hero's and they definitely deserve the Title .

The video Chris MAC made that day shows the flame front moving slowly making Eric's and Jesse's Decision to move to the Ranch for safety and to redeploy from there. NO ONE could have expected the flame front to switch directions and Move so quickly so fast. My suggestions in NO WAY are criticisms but only made to possibly save the next crew. Add 4X4's and GPS locators to Reduce crew size and speed cutting line with 4X4"s.
These men were truly heroes but to ask this with all my empathy, who was responsible? Was it Eric marsh? For leading his men down the canyon without having a liable scout that could have possibly told them that the fire was too dangerously close? Was it the townspeople? Bc they put too much pressure on these men to save their homes and livelihoods was it the state for not pulling those firefighters out sooner? Was it the airplane for failing to spray that stuff on the ground? Was it technical support for not having GpS’s on these men and failing to provide working radios?
All We know is for one reason or another, Eric led his men out of a safety zone (from the black) into the raging inferno. Did he want himself and his men to die? No!! But my main ? Is did this movie really portray this group in a factual manner? Bc sources also claim that Eric and his Crew were careless and never followed safety rules and were not actually that great of their job and were not shocked by their death, whereas other sources claim that brenden confided in someone and told them that Eric and Jesse argued over the radio before their last moments ( Eric wanted to go into the fire and Jesse didn’t want to go but ended up following Eric after he ordered him too) and lastly, other sources say the movie wasn’t accurate enough in revealing how courageous, and kind these men were along with how great they actually were at their jobs. Some say they were solely responsible for saving numerous people’s lives and ending fires so much so that they gained their elite status and were highly demanded whenever a fire approached anywhere in the country.
Regardless in my eyes, I believe how the movie portrays these brave men. I don’t want to believe that Eric was careless and cocky enough to put his men in danger. However it would be rewarding to know more about this story, and in spite of all the controversy regarding this film, if it wasn’t for Hollywood ( I can’t believe I’m saying this) most people would have not even bothered following this story, and now the world honors them. This film was so good and it really shines firefighters in the light they deserve.

Too many people throw the word “legend” around. But when you went down fighting a legend was born, and you men have inspired me while forever remaining in my ❤️ you are gone but not forgotten.
There were issues years before they died. From the training and qualifications. To the way they got there hotshot status. Eric marsh did not want to be a hotshot crew until they were ready. Marsh and his chief had different ideas for the crew. Eric marsh was on administrative leave when they got their hotshot status. Jesse steed signed the paperwork. They should have been on days off instead of that fire. So many holes I can't explain it all right here

Where did the movie's profits go is the question. If a majority of the movies profits went to the studio and its executives then telling their story absolutely exploited the deaths of those men. But if the majority of the movies profits were used to do good then the telling of theirs deaths isnt as exploitive . But the movie, the story and anything related to it is about their deaths. Which inevitably exploits their deaths . Its inevitable because without that horrible tragedy theres no story, movie or money.

These HEROES tried to move from the black to their Safety Ranch and Got caught by the racing flame front.1) A new Watchout should be created to ALWAYS keep Eyes on the Fire and Stay on the Ridge if at all Possible instead of losing Sight of the fire in Canyons or draws. 2)Also they should be equipped with real shelters stainless sheets with aluminum cloth keeping them together and Sheep wool insulation inside. 3)NEXT they should have O2 canisters to breath. The Fire stole their oxygen. 4)NEXT they should have a couple of Steel cable kites to locate themselves to aircraft. 5)NEXT Hotshots should have access to aircraft channel and aircraft should have to monitor it and air channels. This is NOT a Climate change issue it IS a 50 Year Buildup of Unburnt Fuel Issue.

I am commenting on the person who did this and her statement...so has nothing to do with what hotshots or WFF's do. BTW my Great Uncle Paul Tyrrell fought the Blackwater fire in 1937, died after saving 4 men by throwing himself over them.
Katherine Vaughan how dare you even say that. Kevin Woyjeck a was a cousin to my friend Brandon. He was such a great laughing guy always had a great time. The families don’t care about getting benefits. All they would really want is to have their loss back and this film not only somewhat reassures them but it shows everyone else that these men risked their lives knowing they could die. They did everything they could to keep you safe. There was no intention for any benefits but to show everyone else what great men these hot shots were. They gave everything.

No one benefited from the proceeds cause there weren't any. The film tanked which is really sad. Backdraft is a great film but a fictional thriller. This is a story about real heroes. People really disappoint me sometimes
It didn't tank, it wasn't made to he a blockbuster, it was made as a tribute and to share their story. No one wanted to profit off of this movie.

Eric Marsh was responsible for those firefighters, was in a safe "black zone" and decided to be a hero and leave the safe zone and into a fire without a spotter and paid the ultimate price along with 18 of his fellow hotshots. He was responsible for them and was the reason they all died. They trusted him and he failed them. Sad.
Space Alien The fire was coming toward them so they tried going to the other safe zone and got caught by the fire. Their lives was in the hands of God who decided it was their time
When they left the black, the fire was heading in the other direction.
When they hit the saddle, the fore was going perpendicular to them.
When the fire turned, it moved faster than it ever had before.

They were going to an even bigger safe zone: the Boulder Springs Ranch. The Ranch is 1/3 of a mile from where they died.

Their leader lost situational awareness, failed to move to one of several safe areas, and failed to communicate their position and intentions.
