      I knew something was off for ages and eventually worked out it was something to do with the jump.
      It's made the trilogy unplayable for me and I'm guessing they done this to save time and money.
      Probably easier to just remaster the levels and throw the same physics rather than design new physics for different games.

    • @20puskinas1992
      @20puskinas1992 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've been playing the crash games for the past 20 years. Crash and Spyro have always had a special place in my heart. The moment I started playing Crash 1 in the trilogy, I immediately realized the jumping mechanic was different. I was really struggling with my depth of field and the biggest problem I was having was to relearn 20 years of muscle memory. The Road to no Where and the High Road use to be two of my favorite levels. Now, not so much. Slippery Climb was noted as being one of the hardest levels in the original and now it's nothing compared to the Road to no Where. Those damn turtles made me so angry. I kept sliding off, and I felt like there wasn't enough space on the turtle to stay steady. For the time trials I stuck to the ropes as much as possible.

    • @deoxysandmew2162
      @deoxysandmew2162 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tell me about it.
      I think that's it the much poorer hang time of Crash that makes the difference.
      Such wimpy jumps, when many, I should have made easily in the originals.
      Road to nowhere and High Road did zapped some of my lives, but Slippery Climb?!
      I did it first frickin try! Like WHAT?!
      Stormy Ascent also gave me problems due to weaker hang time...
      That 1 spike with the fast platforms zapped more than 15 lives due to being nearly impossible to jump
      over, unless you do it "frame perfect". (I believe...)
      The biggest killer in this remake surely is the hang time, but there are some other things that makes it
      also worse, or better.
      Like.... no damage on Death Route "Cold Hard Crash" = Impossible in this version.
      (I tried a lot and no cigar. The ice physics are also nonsensical in comparison to originals...)
      To be honest... I don't know whether version is easier as both have their own perks and downs to the
      point of balancing themselves out. It's like, pick your poison. ;P

    • @quanticplayer
      @quanticplayer 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Melcore I was thinking about it today! It's so frustrating when I'm trying to get a colored 💎 and I die, so I need to get back to level screen and back to the level again! If Time Trial has a restart option, why normal mode hasn't?

    • @1Synner
      @1Synner 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The thing about an instant restart button would be that it'd pretty much make the life system moot, because why "die, lose a life, return to a checkpoint" when you can just "restart to the beginning or latest checkpoint"? And, I know what you're thinking. "Then FUCK the life system!" If that's the case, would you feel the game is as it should be without it?

    • @1Synner
      @1Synner 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You don't lose a life when dying/restarting a time trial, that's why.

    • @KibbyDragon839
      @KibbyDragon839 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      1Synner But if you restarted a level you'll still be down a life and resart similar to game over. You wouldn't be able to recollect any extra lives either, because they spawn back until you reload. It doesn't mess with the lives system at all.

      But it was much easyer to do the lvl's without dying on ps1!, road to nowhere was easy on the old game, because you have 3 times as large place to land on + you don't need the momentum to be able to jump from one tourtle to a other one.
      Lots of people don't even do the diamonds, just finishing all the levels to beat the final boss, then its much harder than the old game.

      I can't complete the game. It used to be so easy. It takes me 2-6 hours to complete one level and now I am stuck at High Road, because it takes me even 10 life points to land the first jump and then not die after it. I die around 100-500 times per level and it is frustrating. Now I tried 45 minutes to get to second checkpoint on The High Road. It somehow feels the jumps are not as long as they used to be and you drop faster. Should I update the game if there is any fixes to it?

That's why, when I put my new Nsane Trilogy disc in and started playing the first one, I fell into the very first pit. I NEVER do that. I even had the PS1 version of Crash 1 and played it. The jumping mechanics feel different and I agree that it's harder than the originals. I don't mind though, because at the end of the day, this just gives the game more life for me to play it.

    I'm so glad I am not the only one who thinks the exact same. There is something legitimately wrong with the jumping mechanics. There were countless times I don't make jumps because the jumping mechanics are so tight that you have to be INCREDIBLY precise with your jumps, resulting in overshooting jumps, falling off ledges and dying on the simplest jumps that make you feel like DSP. It's like trying to take a piss into a shot glass. I lost 40 lives alone on Road to Nowhere, I cannot tell you how many times my brother and I died on missing those turtle jumps, it was a nightmare. But on the original game I can beat those levels without even dying, I even played it again with no problems after playing the Remaster. You can see the differences tremendously. And don't even get me started on the jet ski levels in Crash 3, they fucked up the controls beyond belief, it was the worst thing I have ever seen in a Crash game.

    • @deoxysandmew2162
      @deoxysandmew2162 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tell me about it...
      The ramps are your worst enemy in the Ski levels.
      I really loved how they magnetized Coco to the middle of the ramp and leveled her out, so she goes
      straight without missing boxes like an idiot or dying like a moron on a nitro boxes...
      ...speaking of which... "Hot Coco"... I'm looking at you!
      That level transition to remaster was a disaster!
      The level looks.... squished.
      There is so little space between bombs it's near impossible to get through those even without full
      speed, let alone when trying to get the platinum relic on that thing!
      I assume that Hot Coco level was made in such way back in the original, due to show the limitations of
      the character's control and difficulty, but when those "controls" are changed.... then... the level becomes
      a complete uncontrollable mess that can't be comprehended.
      But yeah.... this game can make you think whether one sucks real bad at video games like DSP...
      That darn hang time!!!
      Sad thing is.... I didn't even got 99 lives in Crash 2, due to so many deaths, like WHAT?!
      Where in the original.... I had 99 lives even before Road to Ruin.
      Oh yeah, also.
      Fun Fact: those 3 lives on the bouncing crates at the secondary entrance of Air Crash... are impossible.
      Crash's hang time is so weak in the remaster... you can't get onto the 2 box from the first.
      Like... did they even playtested that?!
      What a fucking tease!

The mechanics change from game to game, but you get used to it right away. Slight mechanics changes between games is understandable and vastly preferable to mechanics not intended to a game.

      Mark Andrus the reason is because with ratchet and clank and jak and daxter, were ports.

      Mark Andrus - Halo collection is better, it's the new and old engines combined so it has enhanced graphics and framerate along with the old mechanics lol.
      Fanboy shit aside though, I seriously think HCEA and H2A are how all remasters should be handled.

    • @youknowyoufuckedupright3058

    I knew there was something off about the jumping when I started level 1 for Crash 1. I had chalked it up to VV keeping the clunkiness of the original first game rather than using the mechanics of the 3rd game. I did a full playthrough of all 3 Crash games on PS3 to prepare for the N.Sane Trilogy and I was not expecting this difficulty. Yes, it would be nice if VV kept the same mechanics as they were in the originals, BUT, it was refreshing to me that we got an actual sense of true difficulty as you got to the further levels.(for someone that's played over and over again the original games, it was nice) The High Road was a pain, I lost 45 lives to that stage, was a good thing I had 71 lives by the time I got there.
    I don't care if VV patches the jumping of the first game, yes it is difficult, getting the colored gems is a pain in the butt, but it is still a good game and can be completed. I know everyone is going to have their own opinion on this, and that's 100000% alright. If changes get made, I'm 100% okay with it.

      Slippery Climb is as far as I've got on the 1 remaster. Tried a couple of times and - I think - smartly decided to go to either of the other two games to avoid raging. But last time I played the PS1 version, it took me about two hours. I wouldn't be able to do it for seven hours without quitting, or irreparably damaging my controller.

    I also noticed myself screaming "THAT'S INSANE" at the TV, as I failed to get across yet another seamingly impossible gap, then realising that's where they got the name for the trilogy from.
    Now I'm happy. In our household we have the CPM Rating for platformers; which is the Curses Per Minute scale. The higher the CPM, the better the game, and I suspect this one is going to be even higher than Tropical Freeze, though probably not as high as Cuphead...

      Do you really want to play with the original crash 1's controls which were worst than 2 and 3's controls? I think their choice of control scheme works for most of the stages in 3 games except for the very few in crash 1. Players just need to readjust to the controls again like they did when they first played the originals. If they kept the controls the same as the original, then the game would be piss easy for hardcore fans while newcomers have to play the game tons of times to be as good as the hardcore fans instead of both fans being challenged together.

    First video I've seen of you guys, and I really enjoyed it. I agree about part of the problem being muscle memory. Crash 2 was the first video game I owned, and I have beaten it hundreds of times. However beating it in the N'Sane Trilogy took a labor of love at times, as I had to let go of my old habits and teach myself new ones instead.
    I'm fine with the mechanics being streamlined as it made sense for the newer players, and was less labor intensive for the employees working on the games. It also made Crash 2 challenging for me for the first time in years, which is something I appreciate.

    I just played through all three games in the N-Sane Trilogy over the weekend.
    You sure the physics are the same in each game? Because in game one the controls felt quite a bit more stiff, and as the game series went on, it became more fluid and easier to control.
    Crash one felt like I was wading in mud, while in 2 it felt very tight and responsive with way better jump physics, I didn't have much trouble till the very, very end when trying to make mini jumps quick enough to no trigger the instant death shrink rays (you all know the part...)
    As for the High Road, screw that level.. I was stuck on both versions of that level for longer than I care to admit. However you CAN stop and safety jump on the turtles, you just gotta make sure you're holding the X button as long as possible as you jump to the next one to make the jump. I will admit though, there were times where I accidentally clipped a turtle killing me, or the turtle (Thank you Aku Aku..) and in both cases I was SOL...

The ease and fun from playing the game in the past is pure nostalgia, rose tints and all. The real issue is that modern gamers have spend the last decade, or longer, playing yearly rehashes of 1st/ 3rd person shooters and 3rd person Rpgs. I.E. Call of Duty, Battlefield, Dark Souls, Overwatch, Destiny, and Mass Effect. Seriously, when was the last time anyone played a legitimately difficult platformer on a console?

    I love this! So far, I've only been playing Crash 1. I'm being a completionist and I'm not going to stop playing 1 until I get all the platinum relics. I had a hell of a time with Native Fortress and both Bridge levels, more notably High Road 😐
    I hate to admit the number of attempts/hours I put into these levels, but it has to be in the thousands, for a total of over 10 hours just for a few of the relics.
    I spent over 3 hours trying to perfect High Road just because there were a couple points I had to keep the momentum going by jumping on the rope and I'd miss and fall off, or I'd not hold X long enough during one of my jumps and I'd fall between some of the planks in the bridge.
    I'm ecstatic to hear in this video that Crash 2 and 3 sound relatively less frustrating with regard to the jumping mechanics because I was starting to think that my platforming skills suck, but now at least there seems to be a bit of reason behind it besides lack of skill. Thanks for the video 😃

    I took a break from the frustration of failing the high road so much and was happy to see I wasn't the only person screaming about it.While I'm really happy with my purchase, it can be very frustrating to lose because of the broken jumping/landing.I think I may do every other gem/trail run and save the high road trail for last.

    Yes yes yes! That is the first thing that I said when I began the second game! I have been yelling at my screen because of that damn ass stupid Jumping mechanic...I haven't started 1 yet (mostly because it's my least favorite) but the problem still occurs in Crash 2. It seems like you're going to jump over a pit really easily and then you fall right into it. I found myself 9/10 having to do the slide jump to even get over the tiniest of pits. It is pissing me off! And like you guys said I kept trying and trying, yet I kept falling in the pits. Vicarious Visions really NEEDS to fix the stupid ass jumping!

    I rarely ever went back to Crash Bandicoot 1 so I had less issues with muscle memory than many others. In fact, part of my hype for the N. Sane Trilogy was knowing that I would be able to play Crash 1 with analog control that it never had, and it's certainly helped my experience with it. Road to Nowhere and High Road are the only stages that I consistently have trouble with, though, because of those precise jumps it asks you to repeatedly nail. The hitboxes on the planks and turtles really should have been widened just a smidge.

    Great video! I don't understand how ignorant some people in the comment section are. We get it! You're awesome players who do nothing all the time but playing this game till you are a crack at it, but there are people who just want to play this game like it was and it is in fact really hard. The hit boxes from enemies are bigger and from platforms smaller, which leads to more falloffs. Many people on Reddit say that, I say that, all of my friends said that. Maybe you're just better than us, but that doesn't give you the right to insult us, because we want to have fun too.
    I would've preferred the old mechanics, even if I was a new player. I mean the justification is easy. If someone gets mad about why you have three different jump mechanics, tell them that this game is a remake and that those games are from three different times but from the same franchise. It's only logical to put the same jumping mechanic to the same game it had before. I feel like activision was just to lazy to make 3 different mechanics.

      Yeah I wanted to have fun on it too I was really looking forward for it to come out and when it did I started playing it and was really disappointed. Yes I dont mind if it's a bit harder but they made it way too difficult. The jumping is useless it has to be 100% right or you die and you need to have extremely good reaction times and can't hesitate at all and also you need alot of luck. You said you people just want to have fun yes we all do but it's not fun when your you've been trying so hard just to get through this one level for days instead it makes it stressful. I remember playing the old crash games as a kid yes it was a bit hard and it can take a while to get past certain levels but it never took like several days to pass it. This is definitely the most difficult and stressful game I've ever played. Activision did not do a good job at all re making this game.

      I don't know, I played Crash a lot as a kid. It was way easier for me to beat the remake than when I played through the first time. Try going back and getting the gem on Sunset Vista, the High Road, Fumbling in the Dark, etc and say it is honestly way easier in the remake.

    This is why games are so easy now a days. I love and miss these unforgiving hard games. We need more of them! Posting these kinds of videos tells game designers to make it easy and simple. The new crash is perfect and you have to be good and learn the game to be good! Keep it that way.

  • @TheMD93

    I kinda like the new contiguous nature of the jumping. I haven't played in ages, so some of the muscle memory is still there, but relearning the jumps is always the thing that takes the most time. So I'd rather learn it once and be done with it. Plus, it's a new challenge, when you think about it!

    You guys pretty much nailed everything I would say about this remaster on this video. I also love it a lot but for fucks sakes the jumping just isn't right in the first 2 games and hitboxes for a platformer are just broken. They added stuff that makes this remaster better than the old ones but then also failed some aspects. I have already 100% Crash 1 and 2 and 105% Crash 3. Now I am only trying to achieve platinum ps4 trophies :D

    • @deoxysandmew2162
      @deoxysandmew2162 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed.
      I had to slide spin jump in the "Piston it Away" bonus area above the nitros, because the intended way... .... is IMPOSSIBLE!!!
      You were meant to jump off of the multi-wumpa box to get the boxes after when you hit the ! switch.
      But since the hang time is so pathetic, it's impossible to jump over the nitros.
      You just don't go that far! And you can't use the "3D" aspect of the game, since it doesn't exist in THIS
      version shamefully.
      And let me remind you... Slide Spin Jump that makes you go slightly higher, was NOT an actual feature
      considered by Naughty Dog originally, i'm pretty sure of it.
      And that "feature" is what makes this game "playable" at those awkward moments.
      What a shame... (I can name few other things.... but I wouldn't be able to fit that in 1 comment. LOL)

    You guys are absolutely spot on man the amount of Rage Quit N-Sane trilogy has caused me is ridiculous to the point where i have actually (and yes i will admit this) shed few tears out of complete frustration and had to switch off So immediately lol but regardless keep coming back whats worse with these jumping mechanics is when your now trying to go for speedruns i have completed Crash Warped 105% everything but Crash 1 is a whole different animal lool and on the high road and the other bridge level cant remember its name but my god. I have noticed especially on the turtles you need to jump as close to the edge of the turtles as possible on top of holding down forward and the jump button as hard as possible to give u that chance of making the jump so button sensitivity is definitely a thing to me at least, what i can say is that because of things and levels like high road you really do feel that sense of accomplishment when you do actually complete it. Only Stormy Ascent in my opinion can match the bridge levels in terms of pure unadulterated frustration.
    p.s on a side note Boulder and Boulder dash are the greatest levels ever so simplistic yet the challenge of running backwards not knowing what you could run into is simply awesome, yes their are similar levels in Crash 2 but don't think they carry the same level of awesomeness as the first time having to do it.

    Definitely wouldn't want the controls to change over all 3, I've recently achieved 100% on the first game and consequently feel as though I've developed new muscle memory for the games such that going to 2 (and doing speed runs ) is a breeze!

  • @ErmacXtreme1991
    @ErmacXtreme1991 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Brilliant guys, totally agree with more or less all these points! I also fell down the very first hole a few times and immediately thought what is going on?
    I eventually got used to the controls about halfway through crash 1 and the only real issue i had from that point was that you slipped off ledges and that it seemed crash just didn't jump as far making the simplest of jumps a real chore! I finally 100%'d crash 1 and thoroughly enjoyed it. I have just reached the final warp room of crash 2 and this is where my experience tends to differ from most, where the majority seem to complain that crash 1 is the problem and feels the most broken i on the other hand have to disagree and admit that I've found far more issues with crash 2. The first being the hit boxes! I've lost count of how many times I've died from a nitro crate that I visibly did not touch! Secondly is the ability to gauge distance and in particular judge where abouts on the 3D plane you are while on a 2D side scrolling section. In the original you simply moved left and right, whereas here i found myself constantly jumping and missing the platform completely due to not being inline with it in the 3D plane. A prime example is in Road to ruin where you jump forward over some nitros (easier said than done) then as it switches to 2D you jump to the right and repeatedly fall to your death! My 3rd major issue is that the controls don't always match what's happening on screen. Multiple times like when you're trying for the aforementioned boxes on the ice while riding the polar bear you adjust accordingly from left to right to line up correctly with each box and at the last second the camera moves and pulls you away from the box! In the end i got the first 2 boxes then did nothing and the camera moved and got the 3rd box for me. But the best example i can give of this is that even the directional buttons don't guarantee you moving in the right direction! If you play cold hard crash you will come to a section with ascending steel crates on either side each with a box on top. Go to either side and facing forward line yourself up perfectly with the crates in front of you. Now using only the "up" directional button and jump button try and get to the top of the farthest crate and see what happens. You will continually move to the left and slip off the crates!
    Even if you stand beside the first crate and hold "up" you will not run alongside the crates but instead veer off to the left.
    These issues definitely need addressed.
    Overall though it's still crash and I'm still having a blast playing it. I find it strange however that as a result of these issues everyone is saying that it is so much more difficult than the original. Personally even with these issues i seem to be breezing through it much faster and easier than i did the originals, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense! Harder sections i had more trouble with in the originals i seem to be getting by here with little effort! It's the easy parts that normally you don't even have to think about that constantly kill me as a result of the somewhat broken game mechanics and my muscle memory of how the game should play!

    Oh thank god, you said it !! I was sooooo frustrated while playing crash 1. I was stuck on few levels for like 2 hours and started hating myself for being so bad at playing this game that I was so good at when I was just a child. Felt embarrassed and thinking that I'm just bad at it and thinking everyone else got it on a first try or so 'cause there were so many times when I just fell from what seemed like an easy jump and aaaargh I was so pissed! Thank god I made it to warped and now I can just run trough every level easily without dying at the first possible moment for 10 times in a row.. It just felt weird to me that the first game is the hardest and third is easiest but that's how they were. Not so good for the new players though

      It feels great after seeing the game over screen for 50 times to start playing warped and realizing that I'm not shit the first game is :D (not shit but like super hard shit) And just running trough like 20 levels before even dying once. And instead of having max 4 lives you find yourself having +45 all the time. Maybe there should be a hint at the first loading screen or at the menu where you choose which game to play that beginners should start from 3 to 1. It messes up the story but I assume most people want to play the games in order like me and I see so many people who are new to this game just not being able to finish the first game and never getting to warped.

    I still love The High Road, and The Road To Nowhere, they are actually my favourite Crash maps. But there is one little important thing you forgot to mention... In the old game you used to be able to just walk over a "one plank wide" gap on the bridge in these two maps, you can't do that in the N. Sane trilogy for some reason. That made it a LOT harder for me, even though I have 100% replayed Crash 1 like 8 times the for last 4 years.

  • @or_lionheart
    @or_lionheart 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    My only real complaint is about the cloud area in the Native Fortress level. I really, really hope they fix the clouds' hitbox, those things are infuriating as hell, and end up turning a simple and straightforward section into a complete nightmare. Sometimes Crash would fall from a spot where in one of my previous attempt he would stand just fine. Sometimes he even drops randomly while walking through the cloud surface, I mean what the hell?
    Really hope they patch this up, otherwise everything is pretty top notch. The jump in the first Crash game is a little messed up and he also tends to slip constantly when he lands on the edge of things but I assume most of the difficulty comes from "old" players like em remembering the old controls and having to learn and adapt to the new movements.
    Vicarious Visions did a phenomenal job with the remakes.
    I honestly didn't think they would pull it off. They even managed to get me loving Crash 1 like I never did before. The old clunky controls, insane loading times and password saving system BS really threw me off as a kid. Now I understand why it is called a true gem of Platforming.
    Also here's hoping they will also remake CTR. The demand is high enough and from what I know the trilogy is making a huge success, so who knows

      What's the point of a platformer if it's not difficult? Crash doesn't have an amazing story, an open world to explore, non-linear gameplay, amazing visuals or cool set pieces like most modern games. Challenge, charm and nostalgia are the only things that make Crash enjoyable, especially nowadays.

  • @Crow_Rising
    @Crow_Rising 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The jumping thing where you slide off the edge of platforms seems to actually be more because of Crash's hitbox rather than the level geometry's hitbox. The hitbox around where his feet are is apparently more of a pill shape rather than a box shape, which makes him slide off the edge of platforms if he doesn't quite make it.
    This is something of a double edged sword, because although it can screw you over if you slightly under jump, it also gives you a little bit of leeway where instead of just falling off an edge you were standing on if you were a little late to jump, sometimes you will jump anyway and not die. So although it makes some challenges harder, it makes other challenges easier.
    My biggest gripe with the game is the camera angles. I have no nostalgia for terrible camera angles that get me killed due to a lack of depth perception. The game itself may be nostalgic, but I would rather be able to see what I am doing than have everything wrong with the game I liked as a kid still be in the remake. What I am saying is I would praise the game more for fixing issues with the original rather than keeping those issues because "lol nostalgia, it's just like how you remember!"
    Just keep the camera angles where they aren't hurting anything, and change the angles when they are just as much an obstacle as the level design itself.

    I don't remember the Crash games having different jump mechanics from one another, but I never did have Crash 1 until much later when I played it on the PS3...though I only got halfway in. I'm glad I'm not the only one who lost so many lives to The High Road, and I also had a good 40 lives to start, and hit multiple game overs. I just chalked it up to early platformer design.
