I dont plug my patreon in the videos because I want to keep the content pure and timeless. However currently I am accepting for support in the early months as i recently quit my day job to push this series as far as it can go. If you visit the patreon page, there is a video that explains my whole story. / boundarybreak

Great episode. Glad I was able to help. Very curious about that "N-sane" comment towards the end.
You did see the picture that was slightly faded in near the end, he want to tackle doing an out of bound cam for the Crash Bandicoot N-sane Trilogy.
Nekorun How exactly are these cameras implemented, anyway? Do the GPU plugins intercept GTE calls and create openGL primitives that a developer can then arbitrarily manipulate? Apologies - I am not too hot with graphics programming.
I am curious because I wonder if something like this might enable 3D VR PSOne rendering.
Jimmy Breck-McKye u seem pretty hot with it
Nekorun there was also a washed out picture of the logo in the back.
Neko is cat in Japanese
Just saw the interview of one of the developers explaining it all. This makes so much more sense now with a visual representation.
theultimateninja yes! Wanted to come back and watch this after seeing that video
me too!!!😁

Just saw that video
@@rasmushansen3318 is that the interview?
6:54 What's also interesting here is that they animated the pillars to make it look like they're getting visually distorted by the fire.
Same with the floor beneath the water! Very cool technique.

Gosh heck
6:54 I always wondered how did they make that underwater-waves-moving effect... damn they were smart
Frikanih FX Listening to the programmer talking about the development will verify that.

Hey guys! original intro was cut out due to a mixed reception. I noticed a lot of you liked it, but i feel like i can make everyone happy by leaving it out so maybe i'll reupload it somewhere else
Can you do more skits like that in future episodes? :v
I had just finished Zelda breath of the wild when I got a notification for this video.
Shesez please do twinsanity
Shesez Best intro on TH-cam 👏
Shesez good morning
That tiki behind the boulder can actually be seen normally by backtracking once you've reached the end of the level. Although it's kinda tricky to pull off due to the now seemingly impossible gap, you can still get across by jumping to the sides much like you would to avoid the pits in Crash 2's jungle levels.
that's probably why they added it.
Just proves Naughty Dog are real Legends
2:23 there is something in the background

i love this, it makes everything feel like its a movie set or play only showing the audience what they need to see.
considering that this game really pushed the psx to it's limits, that drawing method was a great idea for saving on resources. Cool video!
It's so interesting how in the Ripper Roo boss fight the walls behind the flames are built to wiggle to give the impression of seeing hot air!
For an old video game, Crash is actually so expressive.
@Ruth B If you like this video, you should check out the video "How Crash Bandicoot Hacked The Original Playstation". It's an interview with the guy who made the game.
just saw the new vid, real sorry to hear YT is being a bollix hiding your videos. So I'm watching older ones, commenting and liking to try help job the algorithm 👍
Oh, this video is great. I guess you could call it...*N'Sane*...huehuehue...I'll leave...
i'm pretty sure that was the point
TheCraigadile GOOD.
That pun was N. credible

Play n Ride AND I have stroke back from the defeat. Hahahaha!!!🙂
I remember that model of crash spinning from the crash bandicoot episode of low poly on A+start's channel!
I was thinking the exact same thing lol
guilty..me too

Same
Well..considering that Andy and Shesez work together now, I don't think it matters much :D

This is legit one of the best series on TH-cam. Not only is the theme super ineteresting, I can also tell how much you love doing what you do and it makes the videos so good.
I had a dream about this two days ago.
Spooky.
Can you do Off Camera Secrets of Crash Bandicoot 2 and 3 in honor of N Sane Trilogy?? :)
ur name says lbp2 do a lbp one pppppllleeeaaassseee
@@LovelyYT that was my favourite game
The opening is gold! 🤣
Too bad I couldn't see it! XD From what I've heard it was "epic," or "amazing!"
Loved it!! As someone who isn't very familiar with the development cycle for Crash, it was really interesting to see how differently things were made to create this game. But anyway, another fantastic Boundary Break man! It was pretty N.Sane =)
Wanna know a fun fact about the N Sane trilogy and that idle animation?
If you move before the fruit comes down in the N sane trilogy, the fruit will splat on crash still and it will not go away till crash spins.
just something kinda fun
This is why perfer the 90s and early 2000s development, the developers push their imagination and their development to the hardware limits and yet they've maade an absolute masterpiece. And I don't hate today's development it just don't feel like the old days
Next episode: Off Camera Secrets | Boundary Break - Boundary Break?
elheathasaur Meta
That would be a cool name for a BTS video
elheathasaur Boundary Break is not a game

Uhh wut?
I know he gets a name-drop when contributing his help, but NekoRun seriously does not get enough credit for his work on these games! I WISH I could do the things he does with the programming and cameras behind the scenes. Thanks dude!
I wonder if there's anything interesting out of bounds in the Namco Museum PS1 Games or the Pac-Man World series...
Ultimate_Gamer C25 PAC-MAN WORLD 2 please!!!
Gotta love those two series! :-D
If you see developers documentary on Crash Bandicoot, where was the PS1 limits of 1MB per level load (which means graphics, textures, animations, code etc) So till then all the games like tomb raider 1 load the entire level in 1MB total, so the first 3d games were very low quality both in textures and geometry. So what the Naughty dog devs did, split the 1MB memory into 64kb chucks and load only the blocks with 64kb that the player passes through, and the other do a swap from disk(Disk did around a 1-2 secs to load the blocks) So they were the first devs that slit the memory and using only the blocks they wanted on fly by loading the nearby blocks. So they were able to push more data on each level cause they buffer it. Then other devs carry the same technique. Also, the animation was vertex animation not joint animation like today and they used an algorithm like jpg to optimize the animation of Crash. (Crash was 500Tris pretty high polygon back then) imagine we are talking that Windows 3.1 was at that time and they could only load 100Tris on the software, they hadn't GPU that can calculate triangles, it was VGA. So the devs use Silicon Graphics machine to build it.
I could say that the ad revenue CRASHED down.
no pun intended
if it was no pun intended, then you wouldn't have stressed the word crashed.. :D
Sato why do i see you everywhere?
Probably because I am everywhere *spooky hands*
I'm a Crash Bandicoot fan and your off camera is interesting and I learnt some interesting stuff. For example the rendering technology is a major step in saving graphic process power for the actual visible part of the level. This reinforce my opinion about how beautiful and detailed is this game, specially for its time!
I love this off camera exploration you did! That allows to catch some details or simply just get a better view on some elements I always wanted to have a look on and from a different perspective.
Thank you Shesez for this video and to the one who developed this camera exploration thing.
Love those sunglasses 😂. They make you look even more like your avatar.
I'm actually super glad the live action closing segment is back. Another great episode Derrek!
That intro was amazing XD
Ever since i found this channel, ive been checking all the videos cause Boundary break is soo epic.
I like seeing games kinda brake down into pieces...so you can see how actually games are made.
Little more insane? Little more...twinsane? CRASH BANDICOOT: TWINSANITY CONFIRMED!
nah, if you look close enough a very faint image popped up that was the title for the new N. Sane Trilogy that just got released.
Yo Shesez, this was my favorite episode you've made so far! I really enjoy the Crash Bandicoot franchise, and providing some insight into what's not always in plain sight is super interesting. I'm especially glad that you mentioned that Crash 2+3 are "very likely" because once the video was over I was planning on commenting a request from them, but you're already aware. Thank you for the quality content!
Lol dat face in 0:25
SithKostas How old are you?
Golden Gaming
Probably like, what, five?
+I'm a fucking moron. seems about right.
I am actually fourteen and i want to know how old are you?Probably twelve because you don't have an icon ;)
SithKostas
Judging by your icon, you're still five.
There, I applied your logic.
Thanks for the hard work you put in on these, your channel's quality reflects the time and effort you focus into the videos... appreciate your focus to pick apart these games and find all the unexplored areas
I remember suggesting that you take a look at the Crash Bandicoot series, and I'm extremely happy that you did Shesez! Loved the video! Absolutely N.Sane details!
WhOa!
I share your channel with friends all the time; one thing I'm real bad for is always forgetting to leave a like.
I've just gone and remedied that on every episode; love your content man, keep it up.
That face you made at the beginning totally resembles AVGN, with a beard.
I remember when I was little I was able to find a way to backtrack on the Boulders level by jumping along the edge of the end-level pit. I was able to backtrack all the way back to the starting point and actually found it quite creepy to see that face behind where the boulder sat!
You should do an episode on Uncharted 2. I'd love to see how they got that optical illusion working in the train level.
if you're also interested in tlou, check out freako's videos (ps3 wasnt all that powerful then and ND had, yet again, make a lot of compromises and clever tricks
Haha yea that'd be cool!
That intro was golden. Hell, the whole video was golden. Loved it.
Can you make an episode about Sonic Generations? It would be cool to see the 2D sections from different angles.
Currently working on the camera, hope to have a working version out to Shesez very soon.
Yes! That's amazing news! Thank you!
Id like to see the inasseable parts in Speed highway and city escape. both 3d and 2d
You're welcome :)
Don't worry, If all goes according to plan you will very soon. Along with a lot of other other off camera secrets.
Love the show! I've always been fascinated by what goes on beyond the game camera, so it's great to have an inside-peek into what goes on in the background of our favourite games.
7:58 There's a transparent N'Sane Trilogy logo on the screen.
Hey bud, congratulations! Episode 59 you said?! Man, I remember when you were first starting up. I'm nothing short of happy of how successful you have been and how big you've gotten. Great episode and I'm looking forward to what you bring next! Take care of yourself Shesez!
That was one of the most interesting videos I have ever watched. Please, do the same for Crash Bandicoot 2 & 3.

Made it
Edit:sorry to spamm here anyway
Wow, now I understand why having a higher resolution causes a lot of missing textures. Great Vid!
"I expect no views this week"
Shesez you need to have more confidence in yourself! Your videos are awsome!
*W O A H* Great episode. I can imagine you making this episode just before a meme of Crash started, but like that would happen!
Do crash twinsanity pleaseeeee
you actually did the episode!!! thanks man!!! can't wait for the "insane" sequel
Spyro?
maybe when a remaster gets announced
Milky banana 🍌🍼
These devs were and still are total gods at culling and paging their game's data to squeeze extra power out of the machine
I wish developers did were are smart or as good at their job as they used to be. They made so much possible with what they were given. Now, we have almost 80 GB to 100 GB games that won't run without a day-one patch, and even after that it sometimes doesn't work the way it should.
During the remake's equivalent to the idle animation involving Crash tossing a Wumpa fruit into the air, you can actually move Crash while the idle animation plays. To do so doesn't cause the Wumpa Fuit to disappear; instead, it still lands on top of him regardless, essentially allowing you to play as a purple juice-colored Crash until you use his Spin Attack.
I LOVE THIS SERIES SO MUCH
why haven't i subscribed yet?
let's just... fix that :/
You're perfect, you always make my days. Thanks for that! I'll play all of your videos (without an adblocker obviously) to support you in what you doin!
I was playing a game, and I saw a notification for boundary break, that game can be played later, right?
I was in the middle of watching another video, But that video can be watched later, right?
Depends, what game?
I was in the middle of existing, but that existence can be existed later, right?

Thanks for going to the trouble, Crash was a bold choice but the stuff you found was a nice new look at one of the most unique games of the era.

This was great. This was the game series of my childhood (including Tekken *wink* wink*) You've basically answered all the questions I had for this game and even other stuff I didn't even consider. I'd be up for an N' Sane Boundary Break episode.
now do all the other games
Your new lamp needs a box difuser or something.
The room you're in looks small, so if you bounce the light off a white t-shirt it should create a nice fill, but also allow you to remove the wonky shadows in the background.
Love the content btw, new subscriber... You've got a good crew and should be proud.
Anyone else get triggered when they didn't destroy all the boxes?

A little, and I haven't even really played any of the Crash games, but have seen enough of Caddicarus' reviews to be a little OCD about it anyway.

What about missing one box
The water effect is interesting in the ripper roo arena. There seems to be 2 textures, the bottom and the surface of the water (transparent dark base with cartoonish waves?) and they are both waving infrequently in order to simulate realistic refraction of light bouncing through the flowing water.
That's pretty creative if you ask me...
Woah!
The interview with the co-founder said Crash bandicoot didn't use textures, only shaders

Throwing fruit up and letting it land by itself at 4:10 is easier than calculating where it should be stopped, stopping it, then making additional alarm, and by its end dropping fruit down.
Boundary Crash
Another great video as always. Thanks Nekorun for the camera and thanks Shesez for Boundary Break : )
Yes, people click those!
Great job! Also, I'm excited to hear about the N Sane Trilogy potentially being here!
1:23, awesome. It's like revealing some enormous mystery from my childhood lol
Do parrapa the rapper pls
Hell yeah, this was great, thank you for doing this episode :)

Legendary game!
I like Crash so much. All my childhood was with this game.Much love
You should do a new super Mario bros game
not sure if you do suggestions on this series or just do what you like, but I really like this look behind the scenes and would want you to do dishonored, since it's one of my favorites, appreciate the work bro
How the hell did you do that? What do you use on an emulator to control the camera?
I think he had a friend make a free cam modification
I think Supastarrio made codes for it عثمان الشعلان
been fallowing Boundary Break since day 1 love your content Shesez keep it up
Can you do DOOM boundary break?
Or open the levels in level editor such as doombuilder which has built-in 3d camera.
IVE BEEN ASKING FOR THIS FOR SO LONG!!! I LOVE YOU SHESEZ
The audio is fucked dude.
Jorge Gutierrez GO AWAY!
Great job. Crash Bandicoot 1 is my all time favorite game and its very interessting seeing it from different angles.
From that one blogpost by an ND developer, IIRC they pre-calculated how much of the level is loaded for every position that the player or the camera can be in which is why they were worried about the PS1 drive not being able to handle it.
These videos are very helpful for a beginner developer like me, learning optimization in an entertaining way. :)
Amazing Episode. So cool we got to see how this game works tecnically and it did have a view surprises after all.
was actually hoping for this, great episode
