      While that's an interesting concept, it would be technical beyond my interest. No-one looks at RAW files - they're always processed to JPEG or PNG, so they are the results of some colour treatment or other.

    I know the camera is not listed as ”weather proof”, and I want to shoot picures below 0 degrees celcius (not more than -10) and in some foggy/light rain some times. Do you think what would be any bad idea? Any tips to keep it ”safe” and long lasting if not?

      I would not worry about either of those for a second. This week I've been out multiple times at below 0C temperatures. One day it snowed and the camera was covered in light snow. No ill affects observed, and as long as one is reasonable and treats the camera with care, there should not be any.

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The most important part of green screen is lighting. The light on the screen should be even, so that there are no dark areas. With just the screen, the histogram should be slightly left of centre (40-50%).
      Your position and your lighting should not cause a shadow to fall on the screen. Do a quick test shoot and try it out in your video editor to see how it works, some software is more forgiving of bad technique than others.

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  ปีที่แล้ว

      There is definitely more dynamic range, thanks to the X-Trans sensor. Otherwise, for image quality, they both have APS-C sensors and the X-S10 has a slightly higher resolution (26Mp vs. 24Mp). Image quality is also dependent on lens and exposure settings. In my opinion, Fujifilm's APS-C lenses offer better quality than Canon's APS-C. Canon's pricier full frame lenses offer better quality.

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any camera should be able to do this, as long as it has control of the shutter duration. A duration of 1/500s or shorter should do it. While that's a good starting point, lenses and distance play a role so some trial and error is involved to start.

  • @Softrocks
    @Softrocks 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for sharing your knowledge! I strive to get everything right in camera, especially the white balance. Is the grey side of a grey card meant for setting white balance and/or exposure? Per Lastolite's instructions for their popular Ezybalance grey card, the grey side is for setting the exposure and the white side for setting the custom white balance. I fidn it odd that white, or a piece of paper as you say, give us the same white balance as an 18% grey card meant for photographers? I find that setting the exposure with a grey card is very helpful, especially in situations that are very light, dark and contrasty. I believe that having a correct exposure is very important before setting the white balance. Have you tried any white balance smartphone apps for Kelvin, such as Light Spectrum Pro? Thirdly, why is it that when I am using flash, knowing its Kelvin value and setting Daylight as the white balance in camera, is the Kelvin value in Adobe Camera Raw/Lightroom not always 5600? I check the white balance with an X-Rite color checker and get variations from 5600 (the right value) to 5800, always with a +10 tint. I hope you can enlighten me even more. Thank you.

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      White is white. If you are using a white piece of paper, it's sometimes necessary to lower the exposure slightly to get a good reading. I'm not sure that I'm comfortable with the idea that I could get the exposure correct for a scene (even in a studio light situation) by judging the exposure of a card with a known reflectance value.
      If you are expecting that kind of technical accuracy from consumer equipment, I think you may need to lower your expectations. As I demonstrated, the Fujifilm daylight setting is about 600K off. In the end, it is the photo that matters, don't be a slave to settings and tech details.

    Really appreciate this video, Maarten. I was always happy leaving WB and DR on Auto when using my X-T30 and X-E3 but I’ve been far less than satisfied with the choices my X-S10 makes in all but perfect lighting conditions. I purchased a some white balance/hue cards and I’ll be rewatching this video a few times to get comfortable with setting a custom WB in the camera or in Light Room to see if I can get better results.
    Definitely looking forward to any future X-S10 tutorials you can provide because they’ve all been super helpful. I think I’m on month 4 with the camera and I think I make the most meaningful strides forward in my proficiency with it every time you come out with a new video haha. The next thing I need to tackle is the situational use of the Photometry setting. I’ve done a lot of testing with it but I haven’t nailed down exactly when to use each of the 4 options.
    One thing I have been VERY happy with on the X-S10 are the custom film simulations that Fuji X Weekly provides in his iPhone app. I’ve been rotating them on the C1-C4 spots on the PSAM dial, and 2 of them have pretty much completely replaced the use of Classic Chrome and Astia for me.

      @MaartenHeilbron  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      While it depends on your creative needs, and your ability to prejudge those in the field, I would suggest that the answer would be "yes". The ability to change your mind and select another film sim later with RAW files can be a valuable assist.

  • @rjyanal
    @rjyanal 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lightroom Classic does not recognize Classic Neg for RAW images taken with the X- S10. If you take a picture with the film sim set to Provia - RAW or RAW+ jpg - the RAW will import into LR colored Provia. If you take a shot (RAW or RAW+jpg) with Classic Neg as the film sim, the jpg will import colored Classic Neg, but the RAW will import as Provia. LR has no Classic Neg film sim you can apply to RAW. Shots taken in RAW with the Fuji X100V, however, will import colored Classic Neg (if that was the sim chosen at time of capture).

      Yes, the X-E4 supports all of these functions.

    Thx for making me aware of the X-S10. A "normal" camera from Fujifilm is what I'm looking for. But I wish they would drop film simulation. They make a sensor that outclasses any film so why do they not move on from there and go backwards in time? Fujifilm you are weird.

      I don't understand why you don't feel that Fujifilm's simulations are worthwhile. Every camera has similar adjustments, Fujifilm's are just more refined.

      Ok - I'll check it out and see what I think. I have the X-Pro1. Are the modes the same or do I need to upgrade I wonder. Thx for your reply.

      @@northof-62 You should be able to see the settings you're missing in the video. If you feel they are of value or interest, either in the form of new film simulations or controls like colour chrome, then consider upgrading.

    This should all apply to the X-E4 as well.
