  • This brief video covers me making a custom leather belt, by hand, for an amazing customer! The belt features a hand stamped serpentine border throughout the center section. It is dyed solid black and has a matching black, buck stitched border. This isn't a belt that you see every day and I am very pleased to have had the opportunity to make it! I hope you enjoy watching me make it, and if you did, please consider giving the video a thumbs up. Really nice looking belt! I was leery about the black lace on black but it really came out well. I'll have to give that combination a try. Thanks!

Absolutely beautiful, precise work. The care you took in finishing the edge, then piercing the holes for lacing, is so soothing to watch. You inspire me to fine tune my craftsmanship.

What do you use to prevent rub off on your projects? I always get rub off whenever I dye belts, or anything that will be in constant contact with sweat. Always thought it was due to the heat and humidity in the area I live, but did not know if you had any ideas on what would help/prevent excess rub off. Thanks.

I don’t know if there is a perfect answer. I wouldn’t say my methods are the best, but on the products that I’ve made and even use for myself, I haven’t had many issues with rub off. I use pro dye, and I’ve heard that it helps but I’ve never actually compared straight against anything else. I try to wipe away as much pigment as I can that could be sitting on top of the leather after dyeing. I use tan kote as a top coat and it will pick up extra pigment and wipe it off too. Some conditioners and other types of top coats may help in the long run but I don’t know if you can 100% eliminate it overall. Quality of leather may play a factor in some instances too.
