Our first trip to Aldi’s was so much fun! We couldn’t believe all the things we found and the prices they had!! Check out this video to see all the great finds we found 👀
1:20 Not sure if you misspoke or not But it's the other way around. Aldi bought Trader Joe's. There are actually 2 Aldi companies, Aldi Süd (South) and Aldi Nord (north). Aldi Nord bought Trader Joe's and the Aldi you got in the US is Aldi Süd. The split into 2 companies resulted from a fight between the brothers who were the owners of Aldi. They then decided as to not compete with each other too much they'll just split Germany (where Aldi started) in half. That's how the 'South' and 'North' part in their company comes from. Both companies stores are basically identical in how they work but in Germany where both stores are available the products do differ. Most countries just get one or the other store with America being a small exception that both companies are in the market but one just took over an already existing store (Trader Joe's of course) and doesn't operate like their Aldi stores do.
One brother Karl Albrecht thought that selling cigarettes would attract shoplifters whilst the younger brother Theo thought it wouldn't so rather than cause friction in the family, they amicably split the business their mother started into 2 fair halves that either could run as they saw fit. The brothers lived close to one another and although very private, the quarreling siblings appears more the product of gossip magazines rather than hard news.
but Traders Joe has a different concept (even having the same core business model). the two ALDIs do not compete with each other but share the world by spliting ...
1:24 Trader Joe's was bought by Aldi Nord in 1979. The original Aldi company split into Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd when the founders disagreed on wether to sell cigarettes or not. Aldi Nord operates in the US under the Trader Joe's label since they bought the company, while Aldi Süd operates under the Aldi name in the US (note that it is Aldi, not Aldi's. There is no s at the end). Aldi Nord is not part of Trader Joe's - Trader Joe's is part of Aldi Nord. Aldi Süd, including all the Aldi markets in the USA, is unaffiliated to Trader Joe's.
Aldi in germany has 2 different owners, there is Aldi north and Aldi south. And actually Aldi north owns Trader Joe, not like you said Trader Joes is a part of the company. The Aldi stores in the US are owned by Aldi South.
They probably do, or they try a supplier that can make very similar ones. It also looks the same as my local one in Portugal. I work for a big automotive group that sells Porsche, and one of our Porsche dealer locations just got renovated and everything inside was imported from Germany including the tiles.
They are called Rüttelfliesen, a special kind of heavy duty tiles, "rattled " into the grout, so they are not breaking if you use shelfs or equipment with high weight.
1:25 Wrong, Trader Joes is part of Aldi and only from Aldi North, not Aldi South! Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd are two different companies set up by fractious brothers, both offering roughly the same thing but are separate companies, at least for now! (Both companies want to slowly get closer again after the death of both brothers!) And for the American market, Trader Joe's is Aldi North and Aldi is Aldi South. (Trader joe's was bought by Aldi in 1979, by the way.) But I'm sure one or the other German has already written that here 😂
1:25 Just a small correction. In 1979 the original Trader Joe's Company became part of the Aldi North Group. So Trader Joe's is a Part of Aldi North. The US-american Aldi's are part of the Aldi South Group. So in The USA the two ALDI Brothers were direct competetors but decided to "wear" different names while in Europe they split Germany and the continent in two parts by contract with the target that the one brother don't take away the customers of the other and that both of their family's can have still an uncomplicated connection with each other.
Omg i teared up at how happy he was n how much he shows you love wow 😮❤new here,1 st video ive seen n loved it ❤the pita chips r amazing n banana nut bread OMG 👌😋
5:50 one of concepts of ALDI is that they buy „big name products“ in masses, so they buy it cheaper from the producers and then set low prices. Because the producer don‘t want to be accociated with „cheap“ products (lower revenue), they rename their products. Technically the „no name product“ you can buy at ALDI is the same product as the „big name product“ - just with another name and cheaper. You can see that if you take a look at the barcodes. 🤙🏼
Trader Joes and Aldi are both Aldi. In Germany there were two brothers inheriting Aldi. One founded Aldi North, one Aldi South. And both went into the US market. As Aldi and Trader Joes.
Not quite. Trader Joe's was founded independently in 1967 in California and the chain was bought by Theo Albrecht in 1979. It is still owned by his family but operates independently from Aldi.
Aldi's company philosophy is buy in great bulk a small selection of good to high quality products. Stack them in small, no frills stores, train your employees to do virtually any job in the store. The employees thus can be used to restock shelves in low customer capacity times, and they have one cashier line open. When a cashier notices that the line is getting too long, the next jumper employee gets called in from somewhere in the store. As it is so small they are usually quick to arrive and open another cashier line, speeding up the process. Once the long lines have been shortened again, the jumper employee may return to their previous job. This allows Aldi to employ fewer employees but pay them acceptable to good wages. The quarter in the cart incentivizes customers to return their cart to the storage space. Which saves another employee from being required to collect all the carts from all over the parking lot. Again, savings for Aldi. What makes Aldi different is that while they do make profit, their profit margin is razor thin. They actually try to reduce their prices in any way possible while still retaining the quality. Low price plus good quality is the major distinguishing feature. For that the stores are small, bare-bones, no frills, which reduces required shelving, AC, and all utilities costs as well. Yes, I know Americans love the service of baggers, and I even kinda understand it. However, that's another required employee for a little bit more convenience. And have you ever had a bagger place cans atop the fragile eggs, or glass jars on top of a fluffy sponge cake? Yeah? Well, guess what? The baggers don't know what's still on the conveyor belt so they have to start bagging once the first items arrive at their station. You as the customer however have a pretty good overview what you bought, and what should be put where in the bags. Yeah, it's less convenient, no doubt, but it will save you some squished or broken groceries over the course of a year, ie reduce your cost as well.
In North America Aldi Nord bought Trader Joe's in 1979 whilst Aldi Sud operate as just Aldi. The products in both Aldi Sud and Aldi Nord are often quite similar, good quality offerings with the savings from things like needless packaging or no longer employing staff to collect dumped carts being passed onto customers.
Seeing you noth so excited at Aldi made me want to get in the car and go shopping lol 😆 glad you guys found an Aldi in your area. The quality is so good and affordable! Also they have tons of vegan options which I appreciate!
Finally!! 👏👏 You already know I've been raving for a minute. The one in Boca is AMAZING 😊. Glad you finally got to check it out. You do have to make a list cause it's easy to go crazy & want to buy everything. 😂😂 I can't get over Gabriel's reaction..like a kid in a candy store. ❤️❤️ #hiddengoldmine
So I hope in the meantime you have had some of the international stuff you were standing in front of when you were talking about it. Werther’s original, Haribo, you held the Knoppers in your hands, even!😊
that's cool, you are talking about international stuff and have THE most german wafer candy bar in your hand 😂 - KNOPPERS (you have to pronounce the letter K) from the company STORCK (it was founded in 1903)
5:59 : That is by the way international stuff. Knoppers is a well loved brand in Germany. A bit before, there were also "Werther's Original", which is a German brand of caramel hard candy.
The reason ALDI locks their shopping carts, bc here in Germany, "some people" tend to take the carts to their homes, they walk with them home. Can u believe this??? Love it, they do it in US, too. HAHA....hilarious......😂😂😂
Unless it’s a special, generally everything is own brand. Interestingly, here in the UK, in blind taste and quality tests ALDI and their closest competitor , LIDL, often come out at or near the top. There is also the classic joke! I went in to ALDI for milk and came out with a MIG welder and a pressure washer!
Uk here -To my knowledge, Trader Joe's has NOT bought out ALDI. ALDI is a massive German company with branches in most European countries. I love their croissants!
Just this year, Aldi bought 400 stores from the US chains Winn-Dixie and Harveys in the South-East of the USA, They don't intend to run them all with the Aldi model though as the store sizes are too big. Looks more like a long term investment...
Aldi and Trader Joe’s are not part of the same company, but they do share a historical connection. Both grocery chains were founded by members of the Albrecht family in Germany. The Albrecht brothers, Karl and Theo, split their business into two separate entities: Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd….so it’s actually one of the Aldi’s that bought Trader Joe’s not the other way round. Aldi and trader Joe's were on company Europe starting in Germany but they split one is called aldi north and the other is aldi south so in america its two separate companies aldi north is trader Joe's aldi south is aldi in America
ALDI North bought Trader Joe´s due to US trademark laws, name and logo are too similar so US customers could confuse them as the same company which is forbidden by US trademark laws and since ALDI South entered the market first with the ALDI name and logo ALDI North bought out Trader Joe´s, because it´s way easier and cheaper than creating a completly new brand nobody on earth knows yet. BTW: the splitted ALDI´s are partially joined again, at least over here in Europe parts of the product line as well as logistics were put toghter again to safe more costs. Interesting fact: you know why ALDI´s prices are so low? The big brands can´t max out their freaking expensive factories selling just their own brand so they sell of the free space to companies like ALDI with minor changes to the og recepy and in case of ALDI in the US, you propably are getting a better quality product because ALDI wants less unnesseccary crap (which here in Europe isn´t in there anyways) to make it cheaper to produce. Who would figure: less garbage= less ingrediance = cheaper to make, what a revilation 😂
The European products are probably more healthy for you than the US brands, because they aren't allowed to put all of the additives into their food that the US are. If you read the ingredients you will see from the lists.
I would miss the Middle Aisle products that we have here in Europe, it's my favourite part of both Lidl and Aldi, wonder why they don't have it in USA?
You are so funny “Trader Joe’s bought Aldi”… Nonsense! ALDI bought Trader Joe’s in 1979 and owned it ever since. As a matter of fact they made it what it became since then.
Once you have learned to put a coin into the shopping carts of Aldi you are ready for going shopping in every other supermarket in Europe. This is not an Aldi specialty, it's common in the whole Europe.
Why are you acting like you just landed on this planet? Even if you've never been to an ALDI'S, have you never heard anything about it, such as the 25 cent carts that is returned to you? I'd swear you must be smoking something really good or you think we're really stupid.

Am I today years old to find out that they have Aldi in the States. Honestly the best supermarket ever. Much love from the UK 🇬🇧
AYEEE so happy to hear you have one too!!
Oh, yeah they’ve had it since the 90s! My mom and Dad would drive over and hour to go to one

What most fascinates me about the US Aldi is, that they really have the exact same floor tiles as our Aldi in Germany :D Do they import them??
That’s so cool we didn’t know that! We have no idea lol 😅
@@TheAcostasLife Check this vid of strangers in a German Aldi, check the floor ;) th-cam.com/video/CjpH3hstFPg/w-d-xo.html

You should have taken the Knoppers. That is a german sweet (dark chocolate, waffel, milk, cream) which is one of my favourite.
Buy Knoppers the next time, Germany'd most famous wafer.
Das ist Hanuta.

Eigentlich ist es nur so, dass ALDI Süd sich zuerst die Namensrechte in den USA gesichert hat. 😉
Always eat before shopping at ALDI. Great video.

Aldi's is the best guys, that's where I do all my shopping. I love their posts as well. Their pots are dupes for The Always pans.
It's Aldi - without an S in the end
Talking about International food while holding Knoppers: try them, they are so delicious.
👍🇩🇪🇪🇺 The "Knopper"s are good. In Germany we have ALDI North and ALDI South. 😁

Aldi is the best ever - I loved getting to see your reactions.
So funny with the cart 🛒 ahahah for us in Europe this is so normal ❤
Last time I saw such excitement in an Aldi was on the first weekend after November 9th 1989 😀
In North America Aldi Nord bought Trader Joe's in 1979 whilst Aldi Sud operate as just Aldi. Yess Aldi’s is the bomb.com lol
Y'all barely survived that opening snack aisle. Heh

I felt that way when first came to Lidl (similar to Aldi) so much to save guys

OMG knoppers is german YOU NEED TO TRY if you havent yet!
For a little pro tip: cool them in the fridge to 7-8°C, or roughly 40-42°F. They are so much better that way.
The salsa is very good.
I Love you doing the haul.😊

We've had Aldi for years! I believe Aldi bought Trader Joe's
locked trolleys is a European norm; much better forces people to return the trolley to get their dollar or fob back
It is funny, you are looking for cookies and sweets 🎉😂
The reason ALDI locks their shopping carts, bc here in Germany, "some people" tend to take the carts to their homes, they walk with them home. Can u believe this??? Love it, they do it in US, too. HAHA....hilarious......😂😂😂
It's called ALDI and not Aldi's !!!!!
You Both are so cute together. ❤😊
Informative video…thank you…small TH-camr here…just subscribed!
Trader Joe and Aldi belong together as far as I know.
Sorry Aldi did buy Traders Joe. Compared to Aldi Traders Joe s a very small company
Nice Video❤ But 1 thing is wrong Aldi bought Traders Joe not Traders Joe Aldi... So Traders Joe belongs to Aldi now not Aldi to Traders Joe😅

I love their croissants!
I go to Aldi at least once a week haha
We love thatt lol
Soon Aldi North & Aldi South may finally reunite. Most of their house brands are made in the same places. Just with different packaging.
Your husband looks so cute.he like a kid in a candy store.
You act like you've never seen food before. LOL
We were so shocked Aldi’s was such a good store!
Just this year, Aldi bought 400 stores from the US chains Winn-Dixie and Harveys in the South-East of the USA, They don't intend to run them all with the Aldi model though as the store sizes are too big. Looks more like a long term investment...

Does yhe US ALDI akso have the " Middle Isle" bargains?
That was very American. You can play but you cannae be exited grocery shopping.

Aldi in the US has nothing to do with Trader Joe's

Aldi is a Sweedish/German grocery store. Alot of their items are imported from Sweden and Germany. Everything they do is the Swedish or German way, even down to putting a quarter in the cart so they don't have to pay employees to get carts.
Really? I didn’t know about the Swedish part.
Not Swedeish, German... There is no Sweedish connection except for operating in Sweden as well!
Unfortunately this is the one of most American-os videos I seen. They are hyped, they believe anything they read on packaging. They are making a mistake to call anything " very cheap" as a 5 dollars for package of nuts that shoul cost a half . They are so unnatural and fake.
Wypipo's food.
aldi's?? it's aldi without the s
↓ Aldi it's the best
