"Dickmanns" doesn't sound naughty to germans. You can basically translate it to "Fat man's" but i think "Dickmann" was actually the name of the brand owner. "Dick" means "fat" or "thick" in german. No genital implications here 😂 They were commonly (but unofficially) known as "Negerküsse" or "Mohrenköpfe" not that long ago. That would actually be illegal now, because both terms are related to people with black skin color 😅

Most of the German brands of chocolates (Leibniz and Ritter Sport etc.) and Haribo are pretty common in the US today, and not just at Aldi. All kinds of Kinder is all over the place where I live in Brooklyn but I'm not sure about elsewhere. NALF is a huge fan of Knoppers. I found them at Aldi and was sorely disappointed - very bland hazelnut cream, chocolate, and biscuit. I had to buy a pack of five and even tossed half of them.
Those peeled potatoes in a jar are most likely pickled. You've dodged a bullet there. By the way. A lot of people from other countries are worried about mett being raw meat. To calm you down: Mett is heavily tested and regulated, which is what makes it save, we don't go around and eat just any raw ground meat and wouldn't recommend that.
just so you know, that trolley shark thing, techincally is not illegal, but almost always violates the markets terms of service to which you agree upon entering the markets area, you can, if spotted, be confronted, in which case i advice to play the foreigner card if you don't want to get a permanent ban (Hausverbot) from the store. Also, if you leave the markets area with the trolly, because you might have parked at the street or something, it will legally count as theft. ;) just saying.
Appreciate your concern. But I mean let’s face it, millions of people do the same thing. The staff members would really have some spare time in their hands to ruin someone’s day like that. But I see the point.
@@ExpatCaptures the brand coins are excepted in the terms of course, but yes, they are usually very chill about such things but lets say, a regional manager (or even higher up) is in the market looking at how things are handled, as they do from time to time ... someone using that might come in handy to show, that they do indeed take things seriously. So if there is one in suit and tie with a nervous looking staffer around, better not to use it ;)
Most food are "special interest". If they are bought by 1-2% of the customer, they are kept on the shelf, not to loose these customers. And if some food is popular regional, a supermarket chain will distribute it nationwide, cause people move around also. This makes this huge variety. Most people buy only a very small subset of this.
The duck/goose liver pate is actually a recent addition to German mainstream. One only used to be able to find it in Delikatessen butcher shops and the like. It is mostly a French staple item, but French food has always been popular in Spain, so Pate is more mainstream there, too. When I say "recent" kids are going to frown at me, cause I mean "within the last 15-20 years, or so" 🤣.

I am always so sad when I see foreigners buy these bakery items from the supermarket, that are usually of lesser quality than what you get in a bakery. Also the preprepared meals and conserved meats. Homecooked is really so different and meats I would only buy at a good butcher. But then again these things exist and apparently people buy them, so this is also Germany,. Milka and Ritter are not the same as Cadbury though. Cadbury is not really known in Germany - I think. I am also baffled at the potatoes in a glas. That's a head-scratcher. They were commonly (but unofficially) known as "Negerküsse" or "Mohrenköpfe" not that long ago. That would actually be illegal now, because both terms are related to people with black skin color 😅
Good to know..!
Yes, but no doubt there was some fat guy (Dickmann) in the family a thousand years ago. But it said on the package that it was " super gross"!
Yeah, I know, "really big with crispy chocolate".
Hey! How funny... you just walked down the street I live 🤣 nice content btw👍subscribed
Thank you ma’am :)
I don’t really like club mate because like she said it tastes like ashtray to me but MIO mate ist very very good, it’s basically the same but it tastes a bit different and there’s different flavors. I especially enjoy Ginger so if you like mate I would recommend that too
Yes, I love MIO Mate as well. I buy that sometimes too! I think they're both pretty nice :)
I looved this liverpaste you picked up when i was a teen :) but the best one is the one with the red jelly. You did it right on that Toast :) bon apetit :-D
I like youre video so much
Thanks Lui! Yeh it was not bad on toast! :)
Nice video. Instead of Leberpastete I prefere the Leberwurst. But as you know, Germans love their Wurst. Btw your German sounds great. Stay save and healthy.
Thank you Andi! Yes, Germans do love their Wurst 🥲😂. Thanks so much for watching. I have other videos where I eat some unique German foods so if you have time, feel free to check them out. 👊
@@ExpatCaptures I did and I will do!😎👍
German is in the title:
Germans: EIN VOLK, EIN REICH, EIN KOMMENTARBEREICH
Are food labels only in german or both german and english. ?
Only in German!
Thanks loving the videos and love the aussie accent. Regards from Melbourne
What a great TH-camr- great cardigan too
Oh stop babes! ❤️
You prounounciation is pretty much on point
Oh thanks!
Cuts an onion like a Chef
I’m far from it mate
Thank you, what about doner kebab and Mcdonalds, kfc, etc in germany?
I was thinking of doing a McDonald's video haha. Maybe in the near future :)
Each to their own taste I guess.
Thanks for the comment :)
just so you know, that trolley shark thing, techincally is not illegal, but almost always violates the markets terms of service to which you agree upon entering the markets area, you can, if spotted, be confronted, in which case i advice to play the foreigner card if you don't want to get a permanent ban (Hausverbot) from the store.
So if there is one in suit and tie with a nervous looking staffer around, better not to use it ;)
True that, good point. cheers mate :)
"Mettbrötchen"!
Cook potatoes in the skin (Pellkartoffeln) and open a can of fried herrings. (Brathering)
You either like it or you hate it.
:)

Your german is so good.
Cheers mate, very grateful.
MoaBogen is the best. 🙂 I can recommend some Maggi to go with the Mettbrötchen.
Haven’t tried Maggi with it, I’ll try it the next time, you have my word :D
The duck/goose liver pate is actually a recent addition to German mainstream. One only used to be able to find it in Delikatessen butcher shops and the like. It is mostly a French staple item, but French food has always been popular in Spain, so Pate is more mainstream there, too. When I say "recent" kids are going to frown at me, cause I mean "within the last 15-20 years, or so" 🤣.
Haha no worries, time flies so it can also be thought of as recent! Thanks for the insights Maren :)
@@ExpatCaptures yeah time flies like nobody's business, tell me about it! Insane ^^
The white square think of chocolate is sold in the US
Gotcha!
Liverpate can be spread on toast or crackers
I think the closest explanation for Suelze would be Head cheese , traditional made from the pigs head .
Haven’t heard of head cheese before 😅
Kopfkäse ?
@@grandmak.
@@sabrinaclarus6290 klingt, ehrlich gesagt. eher unlecker. Dabei mag ich Sülze eigentlich gern . Danke für die Info!
@@grandmak. Kein Problem .
we also have raw Turkeymeat as Mett you shoulg give it a go
Turkey meat? Never seen that before. Where can I get it haha
@@ExpatCaptures aldi or lidl should have it or a butcher
OMG, Butter auf dem Mettbrötchen 😱
Nein?
@@ExpatCaptures Nee. Das Fleisch hat ja schon genug Fett. Das gilt übrigens auch für das Fischbrötchen. Aber tolles Video. 😍
@@ExpatCaptures Maybe there are regional differences? The butchers here in Bavaria just simply season the meat and put it on a bun with some onions.
I really appreciate your calm voice and attitude. Had to subscribe 🙂
I’ll have to try it in Bavaria next time I’m there :)
Great video!
Thank you mate!
If you like Pom Bär you will LOVE "Pommels Original" ! But I´d recommend to explore organic food shops in Germany if you want to have a healthy diet. I was raised with the foods you have shown in this video. But I don´t buy any of that 40 years later anymore. I consider it all as junk food. Way too much sugar in almost all of them. You might want to add up the sugar you just ate for this video and compare it to the WHO recommendation (max. 30g per day) ;_)
Bahaha. Yeh I was definitely aware of how much sugar I consumed that day. Was hesitating on the last bites but wanted to do it for the video. Damn TH-cam :D
I missed the "Maggi" in the soupe😄
You can eat Sülze with fried potatoes and remoulade.
Sülze = brawn?
Awgg yummm
Bro im from srilanka i got my employment contract i havent german language and my job owner dont need german language can i get visa

Very nice to see... for me as a German. :-) btw: you liked the Matjes "nordic style". Try the real genuine (dutch) Matjes. They are 12 out of 10.
Ooh. Can you get them in Germany? Sounds good!
@@ExpatCaptures at fish-stores and in the north/west, north/east even at Aldi and Lidl. Try them without a roll... just with onions. :-)
The pate you can have it on rice cakes plain crackers bread
Rice crackers! Good idea :) thank youuuuuu
they prepeeled and cooked potato in the jar
I don't know why you would get peeled potatoes in a jar and I am German.
Classic 😂
It's essentially a product made for old ladys who don't want to, or can make the effort to peel potatoes themselves anymore. Having all kinds of canned or jared food stored in the pantry or basement is also a common habit of the post war generation who grew up actually knowing food shortages.
@@geist41334 That makes a lot of sense, thank you for the explanation :)
@@geist41334 We have that habit too, but we draw the line at pre-peeled potatoes.
How about all those sausages they have in tall jars?
Haha cool :) welche Artikel??
Ach so!
I have to admit I only buy at the organic stores, so my selection is limited it seems. This is all very surprising to me as a German. Very interesting. You are quite brave and adventurous. I am a Germany and I would probably only eat a third of what you tasted.
Thank you - yes I understand supermarket foods may be lesser in quality. And yes I always try to be open-minded as to what I try! Hope you enjoyed :)
How tall are you? sorry to ask?
Prefer not to disclose haha. Tall but not as tall as you think. ;)

Any tips on learning German? Native English speaker (American), and I’ve heard German is the easiest language. I love visiting Berlin
Don’t stop :)
I don't think that German is easy to learn, İ'm a native German and happy that I don' t have to learn all the grammar, English is much easier to learn
Don't worry, many Germans speak their language incorrectly.
"easy" (learning any language is hard work) to get to a level, to get by.
Why am I not surprised that an american tries to label the german language as "easy"? If it is that easy you dont need any tips, go ahead buddy.
