Just have to say, great job on these videos. The TH-cam tech review space needs more in-depth reviews like these, especially for smaller niche markets like large-format ebook/enotebook devices. Thanks for your uploads, and it's helped me make informed purchase decisions.
Thank you for another very useful review video! I use my Remarkable 2 for math quite often, and a big drawback is that in PDF format, I can't add pages. This way I constantly have to move from one file to another, instead of being able to add a page or multiple pages in the PDF file to copy my formulas and make calculations on these extra pages. This is very important for a fast and smooth execution of calculations. On a paper notebook this is easy, you put a page next to the pages with the formulas to calculate and can copy and calculate very easily. As Remarkable 2 aims to be a digital notebook device, I think this functionality should definitely be included.
Right? One of the great things about the reMarkable is that i have the same ui and tools for epub, pdf and notebooks. They should stick to that principle.
Another great video. I purchased the reMarkable based on your deep analysis videos and insight. You are definitely the "Best in class" Do you still think the reMarkable is the best solution compared to the other devices you have done reviews on? Thanks!
Was surprised the integrations went public with the current features. At least the ability to select destination directory should have been there. While other platforms has this capability already, the RM team has an opportunity to make the process simpler and more intuitive. Hopefully, this is done soon.
Great video as always Voja. Could you tell me the best way to backup the whole remarkable? I know it is in the cloud but I really would like my own personal backup that I could restore in worst case.
Thank you. Well, that's the problem. We don't have on option of doing a real backup of the notebooks. Only exporting them as PDFs, but that's not the same thing. Still, better than nothing. So the only thing that we can do at the moment is painstakingly and manually export each document to a local location, best done from the desktop app itself.
To add to your valid arguments on the utility (or otherwise) of the cloud integration, I haven't managed to access my Dropbox files ever since I first tried during the beta testing. I am hoping that the cloud integration improves and that notes will become exportable with the custom templates that are used, othewise RM2 remains just a glorified note-taking device with little versatility. At this rate I'm actively considering moving back to Note 2 or seeking a new device.
Hi, maybe it should be mentioned that when you are screen sharing and just hoovering over the screen of the rm than a pointer function is activated on the shared screen which makes it easier to present and guide the attention to specific area on your screen.
Hey Voja, great video as always. Just wanted to mention that I have been able to import Google Docs and Sheets from Google Drive. It just makes it a PDF.
Thank you :) What you mention is the default functionality of Google Drive, not the Remarkable. So yes, any platform that sends a download request of a native Google Drive file from Google Drive will be automatically converted to a PDF and then sent to the destination. It's not something that Remarkable does in any way and is the expected behavior of Google Drive.
Thank you excellent review! My questions/issues: when sharing screens, it seems not possible to change the size on the computerscreen with + or -. Otherwise while viewing a document without screensharing on the desktop. That is a minus point, don't you think? And another issue: Why does the desktopapp doesn't offer a update by itself? Now I have to check possible new versions and download them with a lot of effort. Am I doing something wrong?
Would be interesting to see their development environment. The Move class already has methods to view the folders and choose. Seems the Dropbox /Google drive copy could have incorporated the class. At a minimum when copying to the reMarkable. reMarkable, please add oneDrive.
Thanks Voja for another great video! The two biggest issues for me in GoogleDrive integration are: 1- It's not possible to navigate to "Computers", only "My Drive" is visible on the reMarkable. 2- Shortcuts on "My Drive" are not listed by the reMarkable. Shortcuts to folders would have been a viable workaround to problem 1, but no such luck :-)
Love this. It's good to know I am not the only one who thinks it still needs work. Sure I can make it work but I shouldn't have to work so hard to get it organized. Another thing I would like to be able to do (other than what you spoke about in this video) is either have the ability to combine pdf's (merge them together if you will) with other pdf's OR be able to paste them into a notebook (pdf's into a notebook or add pages to the pdf). Too bad its so difficult to make suggestions to reMarkable directly.
I hope they finish the job on the integrations. Soon. Not in a year. How about a month? . It’s nice to see that someone is thinking about integrations, but as you pointed out very thoroughly, the way they did it breaks my workflow. There are workarounds for the backup, BUT to do them, I have to change devices. I need to be able to do all of that right from the reMarkable, not switching back and forth between reMarkable and a laptop or back and forth with Google Drive and Dropbox. Any little distraction or in attention, and it would be easy to lose a file or to lose important edits.
I had these problems discussed re the integration when I had the rM2 and I 'backed up' files to computer, or transferred them to the rM2, using the usb interface - PDF back-up notebooks, which could not be extended on transfer back to the remarkable, files being transferred into the root directory of rM2. Missing basic functionalities.
in my understanding the tablet itself does not really connect to e.g. dropbox, but is done only by the website. that would lead to someone wanted to use the table in offline mode could not use that feature. and since the website has actually the connection to e.g. dropbox, doesn't that lead to the company being able to see and look into all your document ? or do i get thos wrong hmm
Thanks for a great overview for 2.10. I agree that 3rd party cloud integrations feel very beta (not that rM's beta system is a true beta program) and not yet done. One comment on something you didn't cover: The Google Drive integration will automatically convert Google Doc files and MS Office files into PDF when copied to the rM, which saves a step for those who edit a lot of draft documents or review typed notes on the rM. And because there are ways to automate saving e-mails as doc files to Google Drive, one can use the rM text convert feature and get it back on the rM as a PDF relatively easily. Still far from perfect, but there is potential even in rM's meager integration offering.
I haven't covered that because that is default behavior of the Google drive when you send a download request, the documents are automatically converted to PDF files, so it's not a Remarkable specific behavior, it's expected Google Drive functionality.
this looks like a minimal viable product - and hopefully the rest will come, and hopefully not just as a premium addon for the subscription i really would love to have a automatic 2-way-sync into dropbox for my reMarkable notes
Yes, two-way sync is an ABSOLUTE MUST for me. As a PhD students, I'm dealing with a dozen PDF files daily, and I have to view them on multiple devices (eReader, laptop, university computers). It's such a hassle to have to download files and upload them back individually every time.
I confirm that, with the upgrade to the 2.10.1.332 release, I am not able to use the screen share feature by using the USB cable on my two different computers, though it does work by using the WiFi connection. Moreover, the possibility to navigate files by means of the scrollbar that can appear at the bottom of each page, is lost with this upgrade (it worked fine with the last alpha release that I had before): such scrollbar does not longer appear.
Before I get a remarkable 2...the subscription to the cloud you talk about; does that mean I will need to pay a subscription to move files from the tablet to my pc and vice versa?

Is the remarkable worth it ? Is there a clear winner ? Im a software engineer, im mainly interested by taking note to organize my idea and draw diagram but i still dont want to feel limited, especially for that kind of price.
Hello, I never considered Remarkable as a good value for money kind of a device. It may sound like it on paper, but once the pen and a folio has been added, it amounts to quite a lot. For me, Boox Note Air is the device I use for exactly what you said, and what helps is the ease of use, multiplatform integration, ability to use various apps and native support of geometric shapes and lines in notebooks. Now that Nova Air came out I had to get it, because I get the same power, but in a super portable format. I am just hoping and waiting to see if they'll get Max Air maybe out, because that would be the ideal combination for me.
@@MyDeepGuide After another run at your reviews, i finally maked up my mind and went for the A5X ! Purely because i do not really like the design of the Boox Note Air and since you seems judge it to be a close second, i am going to follow your advices on the matter. I do plan to support your work in some way but your organizer seems to be deprecated with the integration of the supernote calendar, am i wrong ? These aren't features I was hoping for, but the cool thing about any feature is that if it's not for me, I don't have to use it. :) Also, last night I uploaded a video showing tricks for drawing (and maybe writing if people so choose) and getting good results on the Remarkable. You might find it useful. Hopefully how I've tagged it, folks wondering if the tablet is useful for drawing will see it and hopefully gives a little more 'flavor' to the Remarkable's capabilities in non-writing scenarios.
@@MyDeepGuide whyyyyyyy... it seems like such a NO BRAINER! This device looks amazing... what would make it infinitely more amazing is if it could sync text from OneNote! Have you ever used OneNote? @@MyDeepGuide also, why in the absolute F is up with this connect plan? They want me to buy the device, then pay a monthly fee to connect cloud services to it? What kind of hustle is that? I could buy a NEW Surface tablet for the amount they want (520, which is apparently already discounted 150) for the tablet, a pen, a folio, and a connect plan. The discount is very confusing because it says 23.97 for the connect plan but the 150 discount is for the connect plan, which also begins charging 7.99 per month on 3/11/2022. Makes no sense. This Connect plan is nonsense! They should be focusing on making a good product and letting the product sell itself and reap the profit from the product by itself, SMH. I really want this device, but all of these little flaws are telling me not to get it, not to mention it is so expensive for what seems to be a very low processing power device.
Up to now, the google drive integration is very disappointing. Not only the notebook files are saved as PDF files but EPUB-Files are also converted into PDF-Files when transfered to the google drive. The Screen Share with cable connection to my PC doesn't work. Screen Share works fine with the WiFi-connection, but not with the USB-C cable connection. I've tried several USB cables with no success. So, update 2.10 is a total mess.
Because Tardigrade is the most awesome of all living beings and I love learning more about them :) It was also part of the research I was doing for an Astrobiology course.
After using the RM2 for a year, my enthusiasm has gone. The upgrades are too little too late, and everything gearing towards the subscription models. That's why the RM cloud sits between the RM2 and Google Drive and Dropbox.
Yeah, that's why it's a big disappointment for me. Another artificial crutch forced onto the platform. Someone isn't paying attention to the competition.
I’s a shame that once reviewed a document that you imported to your RM2 from Drive/Dropbox is not uploaded on the original location; but in the Google/Drive root folder.
Now you can see the description and prices for the plans at their website. Well, not very good news, I guess. Yeah, what is interesting, they add discount on artificially increased prices. Man, they think we are a joke...
Copy function should be selectable destination in both direction(as you say). But you should not have to manually copy file to open it. EG: Open, and then have progress bar if the file is not already synced to the device. Download it and then after than keep that file synced automatically for X days or unlimited(option perhaps). Paying this much money for this product and paying subscription for this feature especially in the current state it is in .. FUCK that.
Looks like reMarkable tries a new feature and wait for Voja to debunk it on video... 😁 Of course there should be a progress bar and whe should be able to choose the destination. At least, an inbox folder.
Seriously, I don't get it what are they doing over there. It doesn't even feel like a student project anymore, maybe if all just D students who are all into art and design but somehow ended up in software development class and are now just plowing through, scraping the bare minimum for a pass and hope they get it. It's a disgrace how little has been done in a year.
This is not something anyone should release as a "finished" update, nor should a single of their customers accept this level of incompetence. It's insulting and disrespectful to their customer base. If there were issues, well then it must be delayed, not released as an unfinished product. If this kind of behavior is accepted, excused or defended, the only thing you and I as customers will get is worse service and worse product updates, not better. So no, I don't think it's harsh for a shameful excuse of a "service integration" that is currently the worst implementation of these services I have ever seen on any device, ever. I can literally not think of a single other example where this is implemented in a worse way. Can you?
@@MyDeepGuide I have no problem with slamming a product as incomplete or shoddy, or arguing that it should be withheld until more work and testing can be done. The stuff about how the team seems like "D students who are all into art and design but somehow ended up in software...scraping the bare minimum for a pass" is not quite the same thing.
Hey guys how is your remarkable battery life? Mine doesn't even last a day anymore, really disappointing. I hope its related to the updates, I haven't even used it that much.
Another example of how this product with great potential stumbles its way along. Based on its slow and largely incompetent updates, I feel the subscription model being considered will scare even more customers away. So many compromises in function….
I hope they get the basics sorted out first and then dip their toes into more complicated things such as subscriptions, because at this stage, the platform doesn't seem ready for something like that.
it works. but i really hate they way they use the screen estate. with the RM logo taking up all the space, the broad margins left and right, a big black rectangle and showing all the interface elements all the time. what i would like to see is only my content without the visual clutter, e.g. a blank sheet of paper. it is very unusable for me like this.
@@danibal1240 Yeah, I used OBS and cropped that out for streaming to students. I agree with you that it is a problem that shouldn't exist. Feels like the system isn't really polished and requires the user to solve it in order for being actually useful. There are other problems as well. I which I could use landscape mode with a page set in portrait mode. That way I would be able to scroll up and down the page. Would be way easier for other people to see. Because of the vertical aspect ratio, it is simply not compatible to landscape monitors, and the text is smaller than it needed to be. You actually have to make the effort of cropping the borders in OBS, so you can increase the size of the useful window and then after still make effort to write it a little bigger. So there are a lot of concessions. There is still improvements to be made, I completely agree with you. Having said that, this functionality was still a game changer for online classes. My previous setups involved recording my writing on paper or doing a PPT presentation, and neither was actually good. To bad it came too late. My next class is in November and live classes are expected to be back, so I might not even use it again. But I am glad I had the chance to experiment. If you need to use it, I highly recommend trying OBS. You can crop the window and add other stuff to your screen, and use the screen recording as it is a webcam on zoom/meets/teams.
@@VinAbuqrq thanks fot the tip! I am not sure if OBS is my missing link, because I already work with Screenflow for the screen recording. But the cropping you mention might be interesting.
@rainbow, yes, I'm serious... that feature disappeared. I would like to downgrade from the 2.10 release: definitely I don't like the drive connection as it is now, and the usb cable connection for live presentations has problems, too; indeed, not only "My deep guide" had problem with the cable, I too..: no matter how many times I tried to connect and disconnect the cable, I got no connection at all (I changed the cable too, with no results).

FUCK that.
However the great the update is, the update won't be able to add a front light and warm light 😔. (the biggest drawback)
Can I use this with my Kobo device?
I don't understand the question? Can you use what with which Kobo device? We'd need more detailed information if you'd like me or others to help you.
Can I use My Daily Organizer with Kobo Forma? (Or Kobo Sage)
@@MyDeepGuide This seems a little too harsh. We don't know exactly what the company is coping with.
@@MyDeepGuide come on man stop complaining. its been a tough year for everyone. Hopefully they can provide better updates over the next few months
Hey guys how is your remarkable battery life?
Mine doesn't even last a day anymore, really disappointing. I hope its related to the updates, I haven't even used it that much.
The first thing to test is if the WiFi is draining it, so go into airplane mode 8n settings and then see how your battery life is.
Another example of how this product with great potential stumbles its way along. Based on its slow and largely incompetent updates, I feel the subscription model being considered will scare even more customers away. So many compromises in function….
I hope they get the basics sorted out first and then dip their toes into more complicated things such as subscriptions, because at this stage, the platform doesn't seem ready for something like that.
usb screen share is pretty good. finally!
it works. but i really hate they way they use the screen estate. with the RM logo taking up all the space, the broad margins left and right, a big black rectangle and showing all the interface elements all the time. what i would like to see is only my content without the visual clutter, e.g. a blank sheet of paper.
it is very unusable for me like this.
It seems that with the version 2.10 there is no longer the scrollbar to select pages that was introduced in the last 2.9 upgrade
@rainbow, no... in my case the connection works with Wi-Fi; it's only with the USB cable that I have no connection.
FUCK I JUST GOT A SUPERNOTE
Remarkable half assing something? No way, that would never happen :D lol.
How do I give permission to my Google Drive?
Remarkable lost a customer with the subscription gamble.
2.1 to start doing cloud drive sync? Did this company forget that devices need software when they built and launched this? Seems great hardware but just not worth buying at all as it’s software is so poorly developed - hidden under the marketing hype of minimalism
