Rightie tightly, lefty Lucy. OK"
These tensioners are dangerous. I had one blow apart after taking it off and setting it on the valve cover. Luckily when the spring went flying it hit to hood rather than my face which was near inline with the flight path.
Thats crazy. I do know most spring loaded tensioners are under a fair bit of tension but I've never had one come apart while or after taking it off.
I've had many let go while I was in the vehicle and it made quite the bang.
Glad you are ok and thats a good warning to people who are attempt this. Be aware the tensioner is a spring loaded projectile
You should replace the aluminum bolt its torque to yield. Also don't use anti seize on the bolt that messes with the torque
Yes I agree with both your points. Adding anti seize will increase the torque on that bolt. I also think although the manual does say to replace the bolt you can get away without doing so. Yes it is aluminum. The reason for the antiseize was an aluminum bolt into aluminum will tend to gall. So yes even though the book says to replace the bolt. You don't have to. It isn't subject to combustion pressure like a head bolt. To be honest why they would have a torque and angle is beyond me. But yes they say you should.so as you can see I never torqued that bolt. And if I had a new bolt I wouldn't have used antiseize. But if you really wanted to calculate the friction of the corroded bolt you wouldn't get the torque you are supposed to either. I get what you are saying. I'm just saying that from experience I can say you don't need to. But if you don't know how to feel bolt tension by all means get a new bolt and torque it. I agree...that would be the factory way. Albeit unnecessary
Nice Zeppelin shirt
Thanks man.
@@RabidMotorsport Thanks for the video. Local shop wants $600 to do this. Looks easy enough
Yeah it was a pretty easy job.
Just a warning there is a cheap tensioner kit on rock auto that comes with a bolt. It is super low quality and light weight i refused to use it
Wanna see me do a little thing ? 😂 what a skill
Well I don't know how to take that comment. It would seem by my views people care more about doing the little things. But you should check out my Facebook @rabidmotorsport and see all my jobs. Too big to document for youtube. Just finishing the vw corrado today.
Good video and details
Thanks!

Hey my man can you send the link to where you got that bc I got the same problem
A link to the part? I think my buddy got it from Amazon. But I would suggest rock auto. Also there is an idler pulley. My friend had to replace that one aswell. It is located on the right side when looking at the motor. It is fairly easy to replace it is just under the power steering resevoir I think. Its a little hidden
Do you have to replace the part or can you just tighten it?
Yes you have to replace it. The bolt doesn't hold tension it is solely a mount. There is a spring inside and I've had tensioner blow up before
Hey man I am having trouble removing the pin do you know why ?
Maybe there is a burr. Tough to say without being there. Should be simple. Maybe bent.
Where did you get those tools you used
Mine came in one of my Stanley sets. Just a cheap set from Canadian tire. But you should be able to find them anywhere. They are called E-Torx.
I don't recommend it but you can use a 12 point socket if you size it properly. Just be careful
