I had once taken by pet birds with us on a long journey with my parents, not knowing its consequences. I thought that if we humans can enjoy visiting to various places, than why our birds can't, LOL.
We all traveled together, it was a memorable trip for me, but may be not for my birds.

I like to compare birds and humans 😂 because that's when I realize the seriousness of it all. For example, imagine someone chasing you around the house, touching your legs, making you eat what you don't want, letting you eat the same food every day, not letting you go outside, forcing you to bathe if you don't have the will to do it, etc.

I helped my Herbiebirb with his trust issues by helping him be touched and held. He eventually loved it, but it took a long time. I always made sure I picked him up securely and not right, always moving him to where he wanted to go.
It was important for a few reasons. I wanted him to trust all of me, not just my face. Picking up was MUCH later.
It helped keep him warm in my freakishly cold house, as I could cup my hand over him and he would go to sleep. And it was important when detanglijg him from my hair, as he loved to be in my head.
Most importantly though, I did it because I needed him to trust me when he had seizures, which he did. They were conscious seizures, so he could be in my cupped hands to help stop him from falling to the floor or flipping over when he couldn’t control his body. He would crawl into my hands during his recovery phase if he hadn’t been in my hands during the seizure.
It also helped with beak trimming and nail trimming. He had a kinda messed up beak from being hand fed. It let me help keep it in shape with some toenail clippers as there was mainly one little piece that poked out. Kept vet visits down to every 3-4 weeks instead of every 2.
Herbie was special though. He was special needs. I don’t pick up any other bird like I did with him. Love birds are amazing little critters. I miss him. He used to lick the tears off of my face when I cried.

We rescued our cockatiel 8 years ago who literally fell out of the sky on a hot Las Vegas summer day. He hates being touched so we never do but we play child tunes every morning for it and he has 3 chipmunks next to it. A few days ago we noticed his beak was getting long so we sought info on youtube. So I donned leather gloves and carefully picked him up. His biting actually broke off the excess growth and then we trimmed the nails on one foot before giving up and putting him back in his cage. He acted half dead for 2 days from the stress before he perked back up. They are so sensitive.

I discovered that if I have to catch any budgies I wear one of the soft fluffy dusting / cleaning mitts you can buy to do it. Obviously one that is not ever used for cleaning. The birds settle quickly and relax. Some even doze off if held gently for a minute or two. When application of mite treatment or medicine is complete they step out of the glove onto perches with no panic or fluttering. Please note if infection or mites are involved the mitt is only used for the one bird and then washed in bird safe soap / disinfectant.

Motion sickness: I first noticed that in my pionus, however that was cured by simply moving his travel cage up high enough so he could watch the outdoor environment going by. So during travel, if your bird is getting carsick, perhaps make sure his cage is high enough so that he's seeing the scenery 'moving' so that there's no discrepancy in what he sees, and what his inner ears are telling him that he's moving. THat's one of the things that most commonly is the cause of motion sickness. Same as with people!

    • @scootermom1791
      @scootermom1791 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

My Green cheek conures get motion sickness. Looking out the window, for them, makes it 100x's worse. I have to cover their cage completely and secure it the best I can in a way that it will not move around in the car. I actually use a seat belt around the cage plus put things around the outsides of the cage to secure it in place. Doing so helps a lot. They still sometimes get a little bit sick, but not as bad as they used to.
Apparently carsickness is a common problem with some birds - like green cheek conures. Maybe it's prevalent in Pionus as well.

My GCCs love me to hold them in my hands. In fact, they insist on it! They love to snuggle, and that's just one way they do that. They will take naps in my hands. 🥰
My GCCs also get super car sick! If anyone else has to travel long distances to vets or something, cover the bird cage before you leave... especially if your bird is prone to carsickness. My GCCs still get mildly carsick with a cover but not nearly as bad as without one.
Also, if you have to travel long distances, in addition to covering the cage, make sure your bird has access to water: not in a dish that will likely spill all over, but in the form of fresh lettuce, apples, or some other fruit or vegetable with high water content. This is important even on short car trips - especially if your bird is prone to carsickness - because they are tiny and can get dehydrated very quickly.
Some people claim ginger root helps prevent motion sickness...even with birds and other animals. I get motion sickness. I haven't had any success with ginger root; it also aggravates my heartburn! I haven't been able to get my birds to try ginger root, so I can't say if it helps or not. BUT, I'm including this info in case it helps anyone else.

The only time my budgie liked being held was when we were in the bathroom. Whenever I had to go in there he'd hang out on the giant mirror, and after washing/drying my hands I'd wrap my hand around him and he'd get so excited lol. Pushing his beak into my thumb and banging on the mirror.
I guess that's not "being held" since I never picked him up, but he liked having my entire hand wrapped around him. Maybe cause the other budgie in the mirror was having the same thing done to him?

Just today, I was training my bird but all he did was sleep, eat & poop. Most of his time is him sleeping but he was nice. I put him in his cage for just like some minutes 5 or so then I came to play with him and I though he was sleeping but it wasn’t normal bc he was laying down and he wasn’t moving I started panicking and got him out tried to do everything but he was dead, I cried so much I’m still crying so bad and shaking rn

if you have a small bird and do have to take them on a long car drive for some reason, I recommend a bird appropriate pet carrier rather than having them ride in a cage, my cockatiel had a much better time traveling after I got one. He was much less anxious and settled in faster after getting home, just make sure they still have room to stretch out, and let them get comfortable around it before their first ride

    hello all,
Birds also have feelings like us!
When someone touches us we don't like it same animals don't like!
If someone stares at you, how you will feel? happy? no..
like that birds don't like when you stare at them!
If someone Cut your hands, how you will feel. Like that birds hate when you clip their wings(it's like cutting their hands)
    Sperating
It is true birds hate to be separated as they can't live alone.(if your bird is sick.then it's compulsory)
    Holding in hands
Birds hate to be holded in hands
Emergency: if it is a emergency (means you took them out in your.room and your mom said we need to go somewhere and the bird is sitting on tv on somewhere else.. don't chase them! hold them comfortably and put in their cage. simple!
    everyone have feelings!
please behave nicely with your birds or whatever animal you are having!!🙏🏻

    1. Do chase the bird
    2. Do touch your burd
    3. Do hold in your hand.

I had one which would poop on command and have no problems sitting in my hoodie or being in my pockets, he loved it! He would go crazy if he wasnt with me. Sadly he died at only 1½ years old. :( It was a lovebird, they really are very loving. I have 2 parrotlets now and they are the opposite, they like me and some attention but i cannot touch them or anything. One of them bites so hard(Incredible how hard such small beings can bite) but doesnt really hate me. They love being talked too and getting snacks for tricks but they are very different from lovebirds.

I never had fights in my aviary 😬 But to stop them from that, find what is causing them to fight. Is it mirror, small number of perches, toys, feeders, are they hormonal, and so on...

I used to drive with my birds out of state all the time to visit family. I modified my travel cage so the pan doesn't rattle using some foam pads in the rails. That's something that's helped take down the stress a bit. Also play some music and run the ac. Mine seem used to it enough to tolerate it now.
