Just FYI... the inside microphone wire button hole is extremely useful for people who use the insulin pumps that have tubing. I use a tubeless type now but have modified clothing in a similar manner in the past.
I literally came to the comments just to say this. I wear a patch pump now, but 10 years of a tubed pump left a lot of holes in my pockets. (Also, everything MUST have pockets if you wear a pump.)
There's nothing sadder than something that never gets to fulfill its intended purpose. I think it's beautiful that these overalls just get to be overalls--messy, adventurous, useful. As a fellow t1 do it! It's so annoying wearing a dress or jumpsuit and having to constantly find a bathroom just so you can see your pump. All my dresses I make have button holes in the pockets. I've been doing this for years and it hasn't let me down yet.😉👍

As I was growing up,these types of clothes were called "play clothes". I had many overalls and other clothes. A full 2 drawers of play clothes. When I was wearing them there was no need to worry about using a sandbox as a boat and getting soaked, climbing trees and ripping them, making mudpies,playing ball and getting grass stains, crawling under the house to get a litter of kittens out the duct work. You just DO in play clothes. Anyways. So cute! Great job on these. It looks great!

I have been wishing a batman-like utility belt for teaching but overalls would be even better! I want 7 of them, each a color of the rainbow with different themes. A red one with an apple shaped pocket? A blue one with clouds?! I am completely obsessed.
This has really inspired me to be less precious with my clothes and give myself permission to mess them up. To give a little context, I work in agriculture, and in summer that means field season and dedicated work-wear for comfort/safety. But the rest of the year, I work primarily in the greenhouse, so things always have the risk of getting a bit dirty. Because of this, I often just wear old t-shirts, men's work pants, etc. The issue here is that I LOVE dressing up. After watching this, I feel inspired to just wear what I want and feel happy and confident in the way I look, regardless of whether or not it'll get dirty. I spend 5 out of 7 days of every week hating what I'm wearing, but no more!
Honestly, at this point in my life, I keep a few items set aside for event wear and everything else is fair game to get messy. I do art, keep houseplants and aquariums, and it's just way nicer to be comfy and happy in what I wear than fret about it getting ruined!

As a person who has made three pairs of my own overalls, (I'm 5' 1" and not thin as a post) the seam that doesn't really have a name - the crotch one. I call it the Saddle Seam. Because when one gets measured for a Saddle that is what gets measured. I actually keep a template for myself so that any legged bottoms I make fits perfectly. Keep on creating Morgan, you are an inspiration to us all.
After googling "measure crotch for saddles" I still don't know for sure if your saddle measurement guy is a perv or if you're actually supposed to measure that part 😂 I'm invested.
This is the most inspiring sewing project I’ve watched in a while. As a sewer, I get stuck in making items that look like RTW things from the shops. This has reminded me that the beauty of making your own clothes is to make them as personalised and whimsical as possible, and not to the detriment of practicality. I loved every second of this.
I have something like this- Nothing so cute, but I call them Shop Clothes. I even have a flattering tee shirt that says I Make Things on it that I used to wear to the workshop on my job. "Yes I am wearing paint on purpose" is a Lewk. It's always good to have a few things that are meant to get messy. This project came out so cute!!
Yep, I've got a whole laundry basket of clean tshirts, sweatshirts and work pants with paint and caulking etc. all over them. you have no idea how timely this video is. i've started wearing overalls again after i finished altering a store-purchased pair to better fit my weird creature body. and now that i realize how comfortable they are, i realize how much i would like a pair for less heavy/messy work. i purchased some mushroom-patterned denim this past winter for jeans but got overwhelmed with the complexity of the project and now it's sitting in storage collecting dust. but now... with this video as a guide... ohhhohohoho!
I love that you gave yourself permission to be messy in it! One of the things I love most about being able to make something myself is NOT being precious with it--because I know how to make it myself, it's okay if I mess it up! Having the skills means you can always make another.

I love this idea and how practical it is! I would make a different one for each season- orange/pumpkin for fall, forest green for winter, and cute pink one with flowers or hearts for spring. You can do different fabrics for each season, shorts or a skirt, back pockets. It’s so adaptable and useful.

Yes, this! Same as Rachel Maksy. I just love their approach of just going for it and figuring it out on the way. I stall on projects because I’m worried I won’t do something perfectly or I’ll do it wrong, but really everything can be fixed. If you make a mistake, you can alter something, you can do it again, or just start the entire project over! Sometimes just starting is the hardest part.

That design idea is genius. No bother with finding strap ends and buttons and not twisting anything etc. Minimal lines and shaping, maximum potential as a blank canvas to decorate in lots of ways.
first thought was 'nice, off the cuff, happy little mistakes' but in a Bob Ross video there's usually a moment that makes me go uhhh (even though it turns out great anyway )- but there was none of that here; just immaculate cuteness from beginning to end! this is probably the most adorable piece of clothing I've ever seen, especially with the leave details 😍not only cute and unique but also practical ❤ if it wasn't for my habit of starting 99 projects without finishing one, I'd make one of them for all my friends' kids. and the moms. and me.

Vincent Briggs has a really good leafkerchief tutorial that I mostly enjoy watching because at the end he goes into the woods and camouflages himself with the foilage and there's nothing quite so delightful as watching a guy in a 1700s waistcoat pretend to be a dead leaf and anyways! I love your overalls. They are very adorable. I have a pair I made for myself last year and I've been procrastinating putting the last two pockets on, but now I'm all inspired to go do that!
One of the many reasons I buy antique furniture is because I don't have to be careful with it -- it's already dinged up. So I absolutely understand wanting to mess up your overalls first thing.

I litterally keep gasping when I see the next feature you add to these overalls. The leaf pocket is so adorable and I Loce the smocking on the back. And the gathered leg was not something I expected but I'm feeling it.
I love how simple these are, minus the smocking which I have zero idea how to do. I may take a look at some fabrics next time I'm in the craft store and make myself a pair. They remind me of one of my favorite "fit everyone" garments, thai fisherman's pants. As a big girl, 48-49" hip, I have to buy the "jumbo" size, there's also sizes for thinner individuals, but you fold the extra fabric width in a single pleat across the tummy, pull a tie around from the back, tie it at the waist, then fold down whatever is above the waist tie. It's meant to have a number of extra inches of fabric at the top to fold down and it's usually in a nice contrasting color, but you can pull the front of the pants up or down under the tie to adjust the fit. The big ones are 72" circumference, but again, that leaves plenty of room to give you a nice, thick, front pleat which adds to the styling. The ingenious thing is that by pulling and pleating the fabric to the front, the extra fabric tucks between the legs and you don't notice it unless you pull the leg out to the side to show someone. The nurses at my gynob thought they were fantastic and actually asked where to buy them. That's usually the response I get while wearing them out and about. My mom calls them my samurai pants. 😅 I feel like I was kind of a mix of you and Rachel Maxie before I became disabled. Watching you both lets me relive those lost, or perhaps just buried, parts of myself and stirs the sleeping dragon of creativity that has been hidden for so long.
OMG those overalls are fricking cute! I'm not an overalls/jumpsuit person myself, but that utility leaf pocket is definitely going on an apron or pinafore when I get around to making one.
These are SO cute and UNIQUE and I totally get the idea of „I‘m gonna mess them up on purpose so I won’t worry about them!“. Thing with clothes that are „allowed“ to get messy is they are often so simple and plain and only only practical. So you don’t worry about them but also you do not feel good in them. With these that’s not the case 😍

Absolutely cute, especially with the red bandana. I looked at this video because I was going to make overalls for myself, but I planned to use denim. When you said how heavy your linen was, it made me wonder whether it was heavy enough to stand up to gathering berries from thorn bushes. We have a farm, so mine would absolutely be getting a heavy duty workout.

A roll of heavy lining paper from the wallpaper shop or greaseproof paper from the kitchen are cheap for making your own paper patterns. Taping both sides along the edges of additional sheets for extra width works. You can chalk or pencil your lines and erase any mistakes. Fold them up and label a large envelope to store for reuse.
I love it! I love it messy because all those jobs -crafts, gardening, projects- are messy! Nothing is nicer than knowing what you have on is cute, but functional, and it won’t matter if it gets stains! It’s a win, win, win!!! I do love this outfit!!

Watching you I realise years ago they didn't use dress making patters they cut simple shape and fitted them by trying on. Yours Is a much quicker way. I have two pairs of overalls in a similar cut, and I have been wearing them all the time since it’s been so very hot. Mine have pockets in the side seams and loose, slightly high-water legs. They are wonderfully comfortable and I think they look pretty decent for everyday wear. I’m delighted to get your diagram, because I’ve been wanting to make another pair.

Yes, this! Same as Rachel Maksy. I just love their approach of just going for it and figuring it out on the way. I stall on projects because I’m worried I won’t do something perfectly or I’ll do it wrong, but really everything can be fixed. If you make a mistake, you can alter something, you can do it again, or just start the entire project over! Sometimes just starting is the hardest part.
So much fun to have play clothes. We all need something that we don’t worry about getting them dirty or muddy or paint and stains. I use a lot of glues and have messed up some of my good clothes. I need these

That design idea is genius. No bother with finding strap ends and buttons and not twisting anything etc. Minimal lines and shaping, maximum potential as a blank canvas to decorate in lots of ways.

first thought was 'nice, off the cuff, happy little mistakes' but in a Bob Ross video there's usually a moment that makes me go uhhh (even though it turns out great anyway )- but there was none of that here; just immaculate cuteness from beginning to end! this is probably the most adorable piece of clothing I've ever seen, especially with the leave details 😍not only cute and unique but also practical ❤ if it wasn't for my habit of starting 99 projects without finishing one, I'd make one of them for all my friends' kids. and the moms. and me.

I am VERY MUCH an overalls kind of person. Whenever I do not feel like exerting effort into thinking about my outfits, I just throw on one of my several pairs of overalls and be done. They are my signature piece of clothing and I thank you for giving me an idea how to sew one for myself

Vincent Briggs has a really good leafkerchief tutorial that I mostly enjoy watching because at the end he goes into the woods and camouflages himself with the foilage and there's nothing quite so delightful as watching a guy in a 1700s waistcoat pretend to be a dead leaf and anyways! I love your overalls. They are very adorable. I have a pair I made for myself last year and I've been procrastinating putting the last two pockets on, but now I'm all inspired to go do that!

I litterally keep gasping when I see the next feature you add to these overalls. The leaf pocket is so adorable and I Loce the smocking on the back. And the gathered leg was not something I expected but I'm feeling it.
I love how simple these are, minus the smocking which I have zero idea how to do. I may take a look at some fabrics next time I'm in the craft store and make myself a pair.
They remind me of one of my favorite "fit everyone" garments, thai fisherman's pants. As a big girl, 48-49" hip, I have to buy the "jumbo" size, there's also sizes for thinner individuals, but you fold the extra fabric width in a single pleat across the tummy, pull a tie around from the back, tie it at the waist, then fold down whatever is above the waist tie. It's meant to have a number of extra inches of fabric at the top to fold down and it's usually in a nice contrasting color, but you can pull the front of the pants up or down under the tie to adjust the fit. The big ones are 72" circumference, but again, that leaves plenty of room to give you a nice, thick, front pleat which adds to the styling. The ingenious thing is that by pulling and pleating the fabric to the front, the extra fabric tucks between the legs and you don't notice it unless you pull the leg out to the side to show someone. The nurses at my gynob thought they were fantastic and actually asked where to buy them. That's usually the response I get while wearing them out and about. My mom calls them my samurai pants. 😅
I feel like I was kind of a mix of you and Rachel Maxie before I became disabled. Watching you both lets me relive those lost, or perhaps just buried, parts of myself and stirs the sleeping dragon of creativity that has been hidden for so long.

These are SO cute and UNIQUE and I totally get the idea of „I‘m gonna mess them up on purpose so I won’t worry about them!“. Thing with clothes that are „allowed“ to get messy is they are often so simple and plain and only only practical. So you don’t worry about them but also you do not feel good in them. With these that’s not the case 😍

Absolutely cute, especially with the red bandana. I looked at this video because I was going to make overalls for myself, but I planned to use denim. When you said how heavy your linen was, it made me wonder whether it was heavy enough to stand up to gathering berries from thorn bushes. We have a farm, so mine would absolutely be getting a heavy duty workout.

I would love to have a pattern for this outfit. It is cute. It is functional. It is practical. It is linen. That overs -all the reasons to make it. Lol
A roll of heavy lining paper from the wallpaper shop or greaseproof paper from the kitchen are cheap for making your own paper patterns. Taping both sides along the edges of additional sheets for extra width works. You can chalk or pencil your lines and erase any mistakes. Fold them up and label a large envelope to store for reuse.

I have been delaying drafting a paper pattern to get it perfect before I cut out fabric. Watching you I realise years ago they didn't use dress making patters they cut simple shape and fitted them by trying on. Yours Is a much quicker way. I have two pairs of overalls in a similar cut, and I have been wearing them all the time since it’s been so very hot. Mine have pockets in the side seams and loose, slightly high-water legs. They are wonderfully comfortable and I think they look pretty decent for everyday wear. I’m delighted to get your diagram, because I’ve been wanting to make another pair.
