How on earth does the driver see what is in front of the loco, with all that steam oozing out. Makes you wonder what it was like when it was all steam engines. Love the video.
Just subscribed for a few reasons... First off, i saw a class 87 stabled, my favourite AC electric as a teenager. Secondly, those two 47's ( I thought 47712 " Lady Diana Spencer " had been scrapped ) as i haven't seen a 47 in action since the mid 90's and lastly " Britannia " herself back in BR brunswick green !!!!.. I hope Dapol do her again in green rather than the current black livery in N gauge. Also , this would be great inspirational modelling material seeing as she's hooked up to a rake of Mk 3's...Great video !!!!
I am genuinely curious, as an American the USA was built by rail, and we have this total fascination with steam locomotives. I don't care who you are or what you do for a living, or how many times you've seen one, everyone stops and watches it go by and marvels at the sound and power, and I curious to know if people of the UK have this same sort of reverence for steam that we have here, and no I am not saying you don't have it, or that the US is the only ones that feel that way, I am just genuinely curious if it something that we share.
I grew up in the UK with steam locomotives and it still to this day sends tingles down my spine every time I see one now living in Canada you don't see them often, it's a shame not many were preserved at least in my location in Canada. I often used to volunteer for my local steam railway heritage line called the "Great Central Railway" back in the UK and still collect model HO railway locomotives and layout items
I think that a steam loco is the nearest you can get to a living thing. You feed it coal and water and it moves effortlessly and majestically. The sheer power is immense and they will always continue to fascinate when viewed up close.
Thank you for your replies. I am glad that it is something shared on both sides of the pond. I got to ride a train years ago that was pulled by a steam locomotive in Connecticut, and it is one of the coolest things I have ever done. I paid for the ticket but I almost could have just stood there and watched it depart and return over and over again.
Fantastic video, hopefully going to head down on Friday to see it myself, 😎😎 what time was it running? travelling from Wigan so going to try and get a rough time lol
It's great to see a set of mk3s with sliding windows. Does anyone know who owns them and what they are used for? (it would be great to see them used on rail tours).
Hi Mat, the diesel is there for a few reasons - In this case, mostly to help with reverse moves at Crewe and also at Coton Hill sidings. It’s also there as an insurance policy as Network Rail issue large fines to any train operators blocking mainlines with broken down rolling stock.
love the sound of a duff creeping about you could never mistake them engine sounds! Nice video of these old-school beasts 🥰😍🤩
Thanks - Glad you liked it. Good on LSL for keeping the old stock running 👍

You just accelerate and hope ! Haha 🤣🤣
Hi, some great shots there, another good catch...
Fantastically frustrating!
Loving the clouds of steam, yet not liking them blocking the view of Brit!
Thanks for sharing.
Al.
Thanks Al.. It’s always a risk to film steam at Crewe with the loco originating from there however glad you enjoyed the footage. 👍
Just seen my old signal box south junction I was a box lad there late 60s.👍
a Nice chopper on the rear of that 80s intercity stock! love the steam off britannia you can't see lol 😆 🤣 😜
I planning to see Britannia at somepoint this year.. she is my favourite locomotive
The Brit’s whistle sounds amazing - One of my favourites also👌👍
What a beautiful loco ...Always been one of my favorites, who else was singing `Chitty Chitty Bang Bang ` at 7.40 ..😂😂
Great stuff mate!
Liking how they’re bringing out a variety of headboards for the training runs other than the saphos one
Regards, Liam
Cheers Liam - Always good to see different headboards like that.. Keeps it interesting for sure 👌👍
Saw her come in to Stafford highlight of my day ,stunning loco
Caught a photo of it at Shrewsbury when it was working back into Coton Hill sidings.
Nice view off the bridge in both directions there 👌👍
Wonderful video😃⤴️⤴️
Thank you 🤗
a Nice puff puff also chewing away 🥰

Thanks Mark.. Hopefully there should be a few more videos of interest soon 👌👍
What a handsome, immaculate, engine!
Absolutely 👌👍
Amazing video! I wish Id thought of standing on an opposite platform but no I chose 12 and got steamed! 🤣
I’ve been there also - It’s always best to be at a distance at the start of the day when the loco is yet to reach full temps.
@@trainsplanes my first time today, IL know for the next time
They wear specialist steam goggles that enables them to see through it.
I’ll sign up for a set of those also 😜👍
@@trainsplanes lol 😂
Great video! Hopefully going to see Britannia on the 4th March on the Golden Arrow!
I hope so too! 👍
I believe she’s also out on the lakelander tour on the 11th of feb

150 Heritage lines covering 560 miles of track, 460 stations and 400+ steam locomotives.

Hi Eddy, aim to be in Crewe for 09:00-09:30 and you should catch most action 👍
It's great to see a set of mk3s with sliding windows. Does anyone know who owns them and what they are used for? (it would be great to see them used on rail tours).
They’re used on test trains like this, I think they are used sometimes on tours
They are, they're LSL's own set used on InterCity tours
She does not seem happy about something. She's blowing steam everywhere in what seems like a big huff.
That will be the driver protecting the loco whilst it’s still warming through - Interesting debate that has been discussed a fair bit previously.
37688 I thought this had gone. Who owns it.
It’s definitely still about thankfully - It’s owned by LSL.
@@trainsplanes thank you
Was she on a tour? Or just out testing. I’m guessing testing as she’s out in a few weeks
Hi Nate, it was a test run today.. 👍
@@trainsplanes I thought so, I know she’s out on the lakelander tour in a couple weeks
Seen this loco before
Strangely similar to the video 4 months ago? Same place, same loco, also blowing steam
That’s always possible - Not doubt it will run the same lines again at some point soon. Always good to see though 👍
Why is it pulling a diesel at the rear?

@@trainsplanes thanks for explaining! Always wondered
Steam and intercity mk3s why do they keep doing it
Does it matter on a test run? Its just for load.
@@1chish just looks so wrong
@@jameshardy4354 I think the opposite.. I don’t know why but a steam locomotive hauling some IC MK3s just looks so good in my own opinion
I’m just glad it’s running to be honest - Better than being in the sidings/shed.. 👍🙏
Mk3 carriages are much more comfortable than anything older. As long as the onboard facilities are suitable for the job - why does it matter?
