Locomotives regardless of being steam, diesel, or anything else powered is like boats & ships they are most likely to be called she's & have been that way for many, many years. Why i really have no idea but, maybe it just sounds better by naming as a she rather than he's. & it's been that way for a very long time ( proberbly since shipping & railways began 🙄🤔) i maybe wrong but, that is my bad memory of it. So, if others have better or more accurate info then fine. But, i will always refer these as she's & even many aircraft are known as she's aswell. i suppose "some" people even call their cars or other modes of transport by a she name. 🙄🙄🙄🤔🤔🤔 It's been like that for many years so who am i to argue with it. I am quite happy for them to be refered as she's. Some don't care & others are not bothered either way it's just a mode of transport to them. The opinion is upto the individual I suppose. It would just depend on how much has respect , care & love for it.

Back in the early 1960`s just before the shutting down of the line between Burton on Trent to Walsall on the old South Staffs Line, I was fortunate to see the "Sir Nigel" hooked up to a 2 coach local service at Pelsall Station. She looked all black and in a really unkempt state and I thought to myself what an inglorious end for a once mighty main-line express Locomotive of the LNER era to be abused like that. Seeing her now in this and other video`s I`m glad she never disappeared into the scrap-yards like so many of her class and now looking magnificent in its original Garter Blue livery.
