Fantastic footage of a powerful beast at speed, I even smelt the smoke from my PC in Spain. I used to have a model of that engine on my Triang railway set-up, many years ago.
The voyager and pendolino passing on Shap sounded like a fast jet. I like how you have included shots of the normal stuff passing by while your waitng.👍
What a journey....and WHAT a video!!! There are some outstanding scenery once again Cameron, and between you and your Dad, have produced a First Class film. I also love the stills at the end, it's something I always like to do............finishes the film off in my opinion. Brilliant, well done indeed to the both of you. Especially your Dad, with all that driving...and got you home safe and sound. LOVED IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for you very kind words David! :) Was a very long and very challenging day with lots of travelling. Probably the furthest we’ve ever travelled for a video! Was certainly worth it in the end :) Glad you enjoyed the video! :)
I was on that train what a fantastic day out 11 hours of pure magic as for Shap what can I say it was just amazing, Was 15 min early at Lambrigg with a booked stop at Grayrigg from 11.12 to 11.37 wee arrived at 10.57 to let a Virgin and TP services pass (both running late) we ended up departing 7min late but arrived 4 min early in Carlisle, As for the run along the coast even with the rain it was first class
I remember as a four or five year old (in the late 50's), standing in Carlisle Citadel station with my mother as a fast through train came through. I'd never seen a locomotive before never mind been on a train. It was in the middle road so not along the platform edge but was going apace. The whole world seemed to rumble and shake and the noise was rather intimidating for a wee lad like me. It scared the crap out of me but I've had a compelling fascination with the things ever since.
This locomotive was the one I most wanted to see restored. It took a long time but now she is a thing of beauty and so happy she was finally completed. I was enthralled with the Britannia class ever since I saw my first “Brit” as we called them. That one was “John Bunyan” in about 1964.
Please note: We are aware at 3:49 that this location is not Shap Summit, this location is Scout Green on Shap Bank.
