Thanks for checking out the first episode of Arcane with me! This series has been HIGH on my radar for a long time, and with season 2 around the corner, it felt like the perfect time to start!
Not only is it the best animated series ever on Netflix, it's easily one of the best animated series ever made. It's not immediately obvious why. But trust me, you'll know.
God, I am so envious of people who are getting into Arcane now, when second season is 1-2 months away. We had to wait 3 years for this 😭.
Oh, also, Arcane was made by Riot Games (game developer behind League of Legends) and French animation studio Fortiche, Netflix is only a distributor, just FYI.

This is probably the best video game inspired adaption of all time, and one if the greatest pieces of animation made.
If it was made by say Disney or a Japanese studio, the mainstream would be holding it up as the greatest thing ever. As its just a 'league of legends' thing it is largely ignored by your typical critics.
At least it seems like the fandom gives it a lot of attention. Feels like people still talk about how amazing the first season was.
To be fair, Borderlands main problem (it had many problems) wasn't that it was live action. It was terrible writing. Also, it was badly cast, was created primarily by people who didn't know the source material and characters well enough. Sure, they would have lost less money if it had been animated though. Preferably, it's best they just don't make anything if they're going to butcher it like they did with Borderlands.
Arcane is something finely crafted. Is it a story that turns out the way everyone wants it to? No. But it is nonetheless brilliant and one of the greatest series ever made. Rewatchability is high. I still see something new every time I watch it, and I've watched it over ten times, and that's not counting all the reactions. Good reaction and I'm glad you're enjoying it.
They're developing now a full open world MMORPG where you can explore the world of which we're seeing just one region in this series. It will be years before it's completed.
I also recommend a watch/reaction to the League of Legends cinematics. There are many. Some have even better animation than this series. My favorites are Warriors, Awaken, and the Call.
For sure, Borderlands LA could've still worked if the writing was okay, but I always felt that one of its most interesting features was this quirky cell-shaded art style. I personally wish they went the animated route for that movie
