    My wife bought me a new Trialmaster for my 50th birthday. That was 13 years ago, and it still looks and performs like new. A quality piece of kit!

    Great review (I’m liking a lot of your reviews at the moment 🤔)
    I first started motorcycling in the early 1990s, and bought a Belstaff jacket and pants, which served me very well for decades. I tried various newer, hi-tech Gortex products (including Rukka), and all have let me down. Nothing has served me as well as my old Trailmaster, which has obviously gotten pretty well worn by now. I actually sent it off to be ‘serviced’ and is much better but I don’t think up to regular road use any more. I’ve got a Knox Urban undershirt to use underneath the jacket, but I have to accept it’s time for a replacement.
    I’m definitely going to be getting another Trailmaster, and this review reinforces that determination. I’m looking forward to enjoying this fine product, which I think will easily outlast me 👍

    Notice how the chest pockets ride low on the chest, in addition to being slanted, thus making them even easier to use and extract items from. Excellent ergonomic detail!

    The small fabric patch sewn onto the shoulders is specifically a British flair, no? I love that. It hearkens back to the ancients, as if a remnant of battle armour.

    I have a Trialmaster Made in Italy from about 12 years ago in black with padded quilting on the shoulders and elbows along with a little pocket on the left shoulder with the Belstaff badge on it. It's sick. Never seen anyone with this model and I'm in N.Y.C.!

    I’ve got one of these, size large. 6’2 , 12.5 stone. 44 chest.It fits great as a tailored jacket, but I am a tad restricted in movement, so would caution the sizing. Possibly an Xl would be more suited? If I’d paid full whack, I’d be more disappointed, but was lucky on eBay. Thanks for the history, very interesting.

    Had a Belstaff back in 1974.At the time they were affordable but the Barbours weren't.
    My missus has a Roadmaster which makes her Barbour Beadnell look like a sack.
    I have a Trialmaster, Citymaster, Dunstall, Kelland, Sammy Miller and Racemaster.
    The Racemaster is the smartest biker style jacket I've ever had and the Dunstall not far behind.
    Another plus with Belstaff is they're much easier and quicker to rewax than a Barbour.

    I remember spending much of the 80's in one of these, back then they were about the only way of staying dry (ish). The smell of putting on a damp trialsmaster for the ride home from work will stay with me for ever. So will how warm they kept you (not) as you knocked the ice off it once home.

      @@markmundy3435 hi Mark, sorry mate I'm a bit confused by your posts. 5 month ago you say it smells so bad when wet you can still remember it and that was 35 ish years ago. It was such a cold jacket you could knock the ice of it, and yet your recent post you seem to love the jacket.
      Can you clarify which post you stand by?
      Do you love the jacket or hate it?
      Thank you for the clarification.

      @@danthechippie4439 I didn't say "smells bad" but they do or maybe just did, I've not had one for many years so can't talk about the modern ones , have a somewhat memorable smell when damp, a nostalgic smell, a bit like an old leather jacket has a smell (kind of nice). But remember, this was in the days before waterproof membranes and thermal liners. Would I have one today, very much so, infact I've been contemplating one for some time to use when riding my scrambler.

      Waxed cotton is not worth that and you can’t tailor waxed cotton to any level. These were designed as utilitarian jackets to be abused. Look up Speedwear for something that looks the same at a comparable price to what they cost in the 1950s.

    How do you guys get on with a 3/4 length jacket; doesn't it bunch up when you sit? Did I hear you say the front zip is 2way, up and down, allowing to splay when seated?

    • @Chokkan
      @Chokkan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think he said the zip finishes higher up on the jacket, so it would allow room for your legs to be open on the bike.

    Approved at which CE level?

    • @Motolegends
      @Motolegends  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Trialmaster is CE approved to Level A only, like every other garment in the Belstaff range. As you might know, first time round many brands have decided to go for Level A accreditation only, to avoid the bureaucracy and costs involved in failing to meet a higher level, and then having to re-test their garments.
      I'm sure not all of Belstaff’s range would meet the AA level, but certainly I would expect that a fabric made from a heavy-duty 10-ounce cotton would, especially as Belstaff has used extra abrasion panels in the A zone areas.
      I have checked a number of other wax cotton jackets on the market and whilst some are CE rated, some brands, like Merlin, currently have no CE rating. Obviously, this is currently in contravention of the regulations, but I think we can expect things to settle down over the coming years.
      Personally, from what I have seen, and from what I have been told, it would seem that; in the future; Belstaff will be aiming for the AA level where it is likely to be achievable. AAA, obviously, is probably never going to be feasible for a wax cotton garment.
      Anyway, I hope this is of help.

    "In the 'older' regime you'd end up going up by two sizes..." Not in my experience. I've just acquired a Melonotti Roadmaster in small. I'm a petite 5'7'' and 10 stone and it's slightly too big. (Although not to the degree your medium size is too big...). However, my Barbour jacket in small fits me like a glove. (Pity it doesn't fit like a jacket... B'dum tish etc)
