Rumors is a master class on kick, snare, bass, background vocals and great arrangements. This is the gold standard in my book of great songs, recordings and arrangements.
I remember sitting in the Nevada desert with my girlfriend playing this on my car stereo. I had a Craig powerplay with Jensen speakers cut in to the trunk,no back seats. 55 chevy 1978
Tango is underrated definitely. It wasn't appreciated in America but did almost as well as Rumours in Europe. I would say Christine's songs were better in Tango than any other album.
I've never used one but after researching this video, I'm really going to have to try and get one (or two). Interesting to know it can hold its own or beat a km84.
@@mixingmasteringonline Fantastic on hi hat or acoustic guitars in a dense mix, but like with most good SDCs, proper placement on any source will be very accurate. it’s flatter than the km84 to my ear, not the same harmonic brilliance at the top but the midrange is very sturdy and sometimes those complex highs are unwanted.
This album is simultaneously cool sounding and really thin sounding. And with him using a trillion mics on everything it explains* why - really informative. Thank you! *along with cocaine.
Another banger video! Love this album, but only recently started frequenting it haha. Definitely will have to put it on again after typing this…“Never Going Back Again” & “Second Hand News” are my favs!
I can only take 10 albums to a desert island, this is the first one I’m picking. Not necessarily cuz it’s my favorite of all time. More because it’s the easiest one to pick. I’d drive myself mad trying to figure what Zep or Beatle album to include. Such a great album. Always loved how happy Lindsey’s songs sound compared to the sad lyrics he wrote for them.
Am surprised more people don't comment on Richard Dashut saying Buckingham should have got sole producer credits for Rumours. He told a UK magazine years ago that him and Ken were the engineers but Lindsey was the one who produced it.
I had a band back then. Best time of my life. We never made the big time. But considering the madness that Fleetwood Mac had to go through in order for their success, I'm so glad I was in the band I was in! 😂 We're all still good friends, to this day. 😅 The only downside? We are now 10 times the musicians we were in our 20s, but too fkng old to gig!
Great stories from the snowy trenches. I just wish they had pressed it better. I’ve got the self titled on Reprise and it’s fantastic sounding. Maybe Rumors is a bit rougher due to all the needle time. I’ve got 4 copies I believe and they all sound ho hum. The music is fantastic though and what a vibe. I grew up on this album and I used to sneak into my brothers room and crank it. I’ll have to try the 45 rpm repress. I love the inside baseball of these classic recordings. Cheers-
A masterclass in timbre, touch, taste, dynamics, harmony, talent and class. The exact polar opposite of the manufactured shite the kids are streaming these days
just more info! i'd dig an hour long program at least for an album that took close to seven months to record! i guess gear nerd engineers like myself are crazy about details...@@mixingmasteringonline
I totally understand, I could have done a lot more for this one. It’s hard getting it all done in a week though. Maybe in future it would be good to do a video once every two weeks to be able to get more in.
don't get me wrong, your presentation is great and i get it takes hecka time to put together and edit videos like this.but content quality is better than quantity, imo. @@mixingmasteringonline
I'm not so sure Rumours is widely considered their best album. Ask any indie rocker from the 90s or 2000s and they'll say it is Tusk. Also, Ken Callait's book on the making of Rumours is well worth picking up.
Cheers, I would to have a read. I got a lot of the information from his interviews. I think Rumours is the favorite for most general music fans. The sales/listening figures definitely back that up.
5000 mics, sixty keyboards, changing strings every ten minutes, running every instrument through a hundred pieces of equipment - but playing the song in the wrong fkn key!!! This is what happens when you let sound geeks have free reign. Yeah, it sounds good, I love the album, but really? really? All that time money and faffing around for three weeks on one track to get no discernible change of sound. Silly. Disappointingly silly.
It’s a master in production, beautiful songwriting and 3 great lead singers. Flawless. A PERFECT album

Absolutely!
Having read Ken's book, this is a great summery of the recording techniques. 👍
Thank you!

What a great memory!
Tango in the Night is the best Fleetwood Mac record
Not even close for me, I much prefer Rumours but they’re such a great band there’s something for everyone.

I knew I wasn't crazy for loving the AKG 451. I feel like it gets ignored so often, but it beats km84s out on a lot of sources for me. So sweet

@@danielburns4483 Great!, Sounds perfect for those applications then , and at a much better price too! 🙂

What??? If i ever heard a thin sounding album, that's not the one 😂

Thank you! Those two are favorites of mine too (and The Chain). Incredible songs and musicianship.
Another really good installment MMO. You always have such great studio photos for us gearheads. Thanks!
Thank you! Great to know it's appreciated 🙂

Thank-you for sharing this! I'm going to go listen to it right now...
Excellent, happy listening!

The sound of api
So good
👏🏾also what do you use to get the hd photos? What software?
Thank you. I took my own pictures of the cover and found some good quality pictures. I normally use Topaz video enhance ai for upscaling though.
I used img2go.com for the colorizing on this video.
@@mixingmasteringonline thank you for responding! Is Topaz AI enhance free for Windows 10?
It’s not free but they do have good offers from time to time. It’s not perfect but it can be really stunning when it gets it right.

Dang, sounds like a complete nightmare. Lucky for them they managed to get a good record out of it.
It does like a complete nightmare technically, Let alone the state of the band! 😩. What an amazing job to get it all together.
The Chain is built upon a demo from Stevie Nicks, not Christine McVie.. I have a copy of the demo.
‘Keep me there’was written by Christine Mcvie not Stevie Nicks.
this album sounds thin compared to other record of that year like Rocks and Presence
New guitar strings every 20 min? Too bad Eddie Van Halen wasn't there to boil them instead.
i'd like your videos probably a lot more if they weren't condensed down to only 10 minutes.
Thanks for the feedback. Is it the pacing or would you like more information?

100% rumours is their most popular /best album
Well, it´s just a pop record.
'Just' or 'Great'?
@@mixingmasteringonline ´only´
Far better band before they became all poppy and FM radio orientated. Peter Green era - much better. You’re very welcome!
Yawn, you think it’s easy writing pop songs?
Hard to compare, like apples and oranges
This band has gone through so many eras, I myself like the Danny Kirwan material like Future Games
