Wow! Excellent teaching! Thank you so much for improving my old brain. I had duodenitis years ago. I've also had gallbladder removed and stones taken out of my bile duct 2 years later, among many other things. I love learning medical stuff even though I'm not all that sharp of a learner. You definitely put a light on in my head that was blown out before. I will watch this several times to learn it.

This condition is no joke, had it last month and it was terrible. Pain was very bad, was throwing up and was jaundiced.
At first in triage they suspected sepsis so they moved me ahead of most other ambulance patients. Right into the shock room/area. Good call from the paramedic to point towards something digestive as I could've mislead them with poor information as I thought it was my inguinal hernia becoming stuck.
Blood tests were made. Result was that the enzymes were out of whack and they sent me for scans. I am not a fan of analgesics so at this time I had refused but the pain was bordering on unbearable, I was becoming exhausted from it. Had to accept the painkiller after the scans. Was given hydromorphone through iv. It helped a significant amount.
Another symptom was that I felt like the lower part of my abdomen/intestine was dead or paralyzed. I could feel my intestine in the upper area working and trying to do its job but the lower area just wouldn't do anything. This lasted several days while I was hospitalized.
After the scans I was eventually moved to the ER where a surgeon came to see me telling me I had acute pancreatitis and they were going to remove the gallbladder as well as any stuck stones if they found any.
That is when I was kept in the ER for 48 hours with anti biotics and fluids and I could not eat. I also couldn't drink water because they wanted to operate as soon as they could. From blood tests they were aiming for a number of less than 1000 or hopefully closer to 500, I was at 21 000. I don't know what that number meant. Second day was 11000.
After about 48 hours in the ER ward I was moved to a room at the post surgery floor even though I was still not ready. Stayed there another 3 days. Condition improved daily. On the last day before the surgery they gave the green light to eat light meals.

    • @letigidou8660
      @letigidou8660 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

TH-cam glitched and comment posted automatically.
Basically after that I underwent surgery and they removed the gallbladder. First method was going to be to do three little holes in my abdomen and if that didn't work they were going to cut through. The first method worked. They also didn't find a stone at that time. Had they found one they would've had to remove it a day or two later.
Was back in my room after surgery at 8pm and out of the hospital at 9am. Post op pain was negligible. Hardly needed any painkillers, I used them mostly just because I was given some but Tylenol would've enough (or maybe even nothing).
Well, long comment but I guess it can help people to recognize symptoms and what to expect as a patient in the hospital.
I don't know how close I was to meeting my maker, all I know is that it was pretty intense at first.

Hi Dr, your video is amazing and very helpful. I am not studying medicine however very interested due to an un-diagnosed issue that my mother has been hospitalized for multiple times. Most of the time she's diagnosed with Acute Gastritis and sent home. However, we believe that due to a blunt trauma incident in the Pancreatic area that this may have been causing the onsets of symptoms very similar to Severe Acute Pancreatitis over the course of about 8 years.
I am reaching out to you because in the blood tests taken during an 'attack' the enzyme levels appear normal and due to our local hospital being under-staffed to say the least, I do not hold full confidence in their procedures and tests- with absolutely no intention to offend, we have just had some very bad experiences.
If you have read this then I can't thank you enough, any help is hugely appreciated. I just want my mum to eradicate this fear of the pain coming back and still not knowing what it is.
    Best Wishes
    Madison

Thank you very much. Your in-depth analysis explained everything I needed to know. If there is pancreatic tissue damage, taking pain medication will mask the symptoms. If it does not clear up in a week, what should a person do? If fluids, pain meds, low fat are not working what should be the next step, stool analysis to look for pancreatic enzymes?

Disagree. Why? Because the range of symptoms across the population cant possibly be controlled for, however this presentations provide a comprehensive overview of the function of relevant body system, an insight into the more common causes for dysfunction & recognition of what one might expect to see in a presenting patient. Ockams Razor - when you hear hoof beats think horses not zebras !! Frankly, and with respect, symptoms like high BP and rapid HR describes a plethora of conditions, some of them not medical (ie orgasm) :-) Im not a doctor or med professional but gummmon

I think I have this. My stomach hurts in the epigastric to the left side of my abdomen. It’s worse when I eat but always hurts/feels off. I even get a burning sensation in that area. How urgent is this? I’ve had these symptoms for about 10 months. My insurance will kick in when I finish school in 6 weeks. Can this wait until then? I’ve let it go on a while because I was waiting to graduate and have insurance. It’s been quite miserable:/

Recently had this and it is definitely something you don't want! Mine was from alcohol. Learned a lot from your video about how it causes it. So since it was caused by the chronic nature of the drinking and ducts getting blocked, I am wondering if that is reversible with time or if it is true that one can never drink again?
