Pancreatitis I know you well. Life long tea-toddler (Glass of Wine at dinner, Beer at a barbecue maybe 12 times a year) I spent 256 days in the hospital over 18 months. First Pancreatitis, then Chronic Pancreatitis, then Pancreatic Cysts. The cysts were so large that they collapsed my stomach and partially obstructed my bowels. Had to be tube fed special mixtures that were pumped directly into intestines and bypassed my stomach. The first time they they drained the Pancreatic Cyst it released almost 2 litres of liquid in the first five minutes. Even my Internal Medicine Specialist ran out of options. They installed a semi-permanent drain because it did make me feel better. The fluid just would never stop. Every day 300ml to 400ml of fluid. The pain was crazy throughout. These drains were only a temporary solution, the body would push them out after 4 to 6 weeks (but at least I was out of the hospital). They never did figure out what caused any of this to start... like I said not a drinker, no high blood pressure, no heart problems and no prescription or illicit drugs. Doctors were stumped. I had two operations to remove scar tissue from my Pancreas. Coded twice (once when a nurse pushed morphine to quickly and once during the second operation) Entered the hospital at 195lb. Left the hospital at 130lb. It was a nightmare! Still dealing with the aftermath.

Hey thanks for this explanation ! PLease why are NSAID an contraindication for acute pancreatitis ??
maybe because of the risk of hypovolemia, NSAIDs decrease kidney perfusion even further by constricting afferent arterioles

Amazing lecture!! Thank you!! I only have 2 questions
1.If the kidneys have low perfusion, they increase the blood pressure, but you didn't mention it. Is it because the heart is working too bad and its hypotension outweighs the kidney's hypertension, so the result is hypotension?
2. What would the situation be so the pseudoaneurysms form? I heard about them and thought that blood erosion could lead to that, but if all the possible blood vessels to erode are outside of the pancreas, I'm not sure how they can form

I had life taking pains after taking a very strong cough medication
When I went through MRCP scans it shows
Mildly enlarged pancreas showing loss of normal pancreatic lobulations with normal signal intensity noted. No peripancreatic fat stranding/collection noted. No focal lesion seen . MPD is not dilated

Why didn't you talk about autoimmune pancreatitis? I have that type and you didn't even mention it!!! I was told over and over my severe acute pancreatitis was most likely from alcohol, even though I have never used alcohol in my entire life plus the fact that I have Sjogren's Syndrome. My original doctor blew me off when I told him about AI pancreatitis being linked to my Sjogren's Syndrome. I finally convinced another gastro dr to do further testing and my IgG4 test was 305. Only then did I have an ERCP with a core biopsy that proved for sure I have AIP. Doctors need to stop having tunnel vision, they need to LISTEN to their patients and STOP gaslighting and ignoring them. I know my body, I know my lifestyle and doctors need to stop assuming their patients lie to them. I was totally honest, told my dr about AIP being linked to Sjogren's and he blew me off - it literally almost cost me my life.
