As a mechanic by trade I do not appreciate projects I'm not paid for. I've had a water pump in the back seat of my truck for over a year. But this is rad. Great work
As an engineer with multiple trade certificates, I concur.....it annoys the sht out of my wife. Wife: "Take it somewhere or pay someone to do it", Me: "No, I can do it myself I'm not going to take it to someone else", Wife: "Then why haven't you done it yet, you've had plenty of time", Me: "Shit, I'm not getting paid for it".
As someone that lives in pa, how have I not heard of you?? Just bought a xj and debating on swapping the engine next year and ran into this. Gonna bindge your channel now
Food for thought, two really good options to look into for a Jeep engine swap. First, Golen Engine's 4.6L Jeep Stroker engine. Second, Cummin's R2.8 diesel crate engine.
Been studying hard on whether to tdi swap my 4 runner, or buy a zr2 Duramax Colorado.... Both have great plus sides, and great downsides 😢 I've done a few large diesel swaps, never messed with the small tdis other than maintaining my car.
I think the fact you can get 300k-500k miles out of the engines is a no brainer. Plus torque…. It’s so worth it. My plan for the next motor swap is R 2.8 Cummins.
you did a lot of mods that don't have to be done if just using a stock motor, yes, the swap can be done for 5k or less if self-done, don't need intercooler , special pump or bigger turbo those are extra expenses, want more power in the back of the pump turn up the screw want even more power propane injection , in my 300sd i made a water bubbler( the liquid it bubbles is a secret) and i have tons of power for a couples of bucks
I've been thinking about doing this to my cherokee, one thing I've been wondering is what kind of fuel mileage do you get? I used to have a diesel Mercedes car and it got almost 40mpg, the cherokee can't be a huge amount heavier then the 5,400lbs Mercedes.
i did my toyota om617 swap for about 3000 dollars including the cost of the donor car and doomsday diesel kit, it's not the prettiest install but it's functional
Hello I'm trying to swap my two door xj at the moment is there any way you can help me I'm just a few states over and could bring it down. I can't find anyone local to help me
Of course you’re talking about doing the diesel swap yourself, but I don’t see a problem with getting it done by somebody with that level of expertise… It may still be worthwhile…
@@intimidate45 I did the swap in my Toyota. Honestly making up your own mounts is fairly easy. There’s also an amazing shop doomsday diesel that makes Jeep conversion stuff to the engine. Check them out. They got me to all the right info to build my om617 up.
@@intimidate45 in the long run the Mercedes is the way to go. The 4bt is heavy and parts are expensive as well. The Mercedes has different engines to choose from and like stated, the 4by will rattle the jeep apart, kill the suspension and the noise will eventually get to you. Now a Cummins 2.8 or 3.8 is an option.
@@KeystoneCarry yeah that’s what I meant lol I’m a diesel tech so it’s cool to see stuff like this. Helped a coworker do the same swap. It’s pretty legit
ok so no test drive no hearing the diesel just a rant about if this is good for other people wich he will never know so why make a video were we never see the thing run or drive or even know the make of the diesel swap or the torque so once again this is a rant video with no purpose at all thumbs way down!!!

Or a om606 swap to a mechanical injection pump and boom all you need is power to make her run

Is the OM612 from a sprinter a similar swap as the OM617? There are more sprinter engines available compared to 300d engines…

Honesty probably the weight of a wk1 diesel
My 2001 4 door xj weighs just under 4000 lbs, so should be a decent amount lighter
Not the weight but aerodynamics will hurt the mpg
Do you have info on the ARP head stud kit? I am putting an OM617 in a 05 wrangler.
10k 3 years ago or how long ago it was isn't a bad deal at all. Most swaps can cost you that anyways.
Oh don't mind me, just watching videos, trying to hype myself up for an OM352 turbo swap in my silverado 2500 😆
Is this the guy from ta targets?
Would it be ok to run mt80 if I’m in a colder climate since it’s just 75w80 I think instead of 75w90
What is your mpg with the motor and 35s
18-22 city, 24+/- highway currently
Hello, what kind of engine is it. I know it’s a diesel who makes it?
i did my toyota om617 swap for about 3000 dollars including the cost of the donor car and doomsday diesel kit, it's not the prettiest install but it's functional
i also got it done at my friends house in about 2 weeks from start to finish
I am wondering what he spent 10 grand on. He has some performance parts but nothing crazy

I put a 4200 vortech inline 6 in a cherokee was pretty easy swap
In 1993, I wanted to do this swap to my 1987 Isuzu Trooper II. Every mechanic I talked to said 'impossible'.
nothing is impossible , you talked to parts changers
That’s really funny man cause I’m swapping this engine into my 1987 trooper now. Nothing is impossible now
Nothing is impossible, just difficult at most.
Love your jeep wanna see more
I will definitely be posting more videos soon. Anything you want to see in particular?

Towing weight?
Which diesel engine did he swap into the xj?
Think om617. 80s merc 5cyl.
i did a diesel swap in one but i used a 4bt with a compound turbo and a zf6 6 speed
How was the power compared to a TDI?
Freighted
I've been thinking about putting either a om617 or a 4bt in my xj. Which should I choose?
I would highly recommend against a 4BT in a cherokee. It will rattle it to pieces.
@@KeystoneCarry okay well are aftermarket parts for the om617 expensive as well as the parts needed to mount the engine in the vehicle
