Great tips. I got my tesla about a month ago and I'm leaving on my first mini road trip tomorrow. A trip to the mountains to do some hiking and fishing. Super excited!
We did a 3 day trip from Los Angeles Ca to Seattle Wa on Hwy 1 in our Model 3, 2 years ago. It was great, no problems, no range anxiety and FSD made driving a breeze
So just to be clear. You input the final destination at the beginning of your trip. But in order to precondition the battery, you have to select the supercharging stn.
Hi! Thank you for such a nice video! I'm from Japan and I'm dreaming of a day getting one of Tesla here and road trip. Even though super charger network here is pretty lacking, it should be able to manage most of the road trip because our country is way smaller than where you are! I also love that Tesla have camp mode! I love camping but hate the temperature goes down and up too much depending on the season and I believe it's the best solution for that!
Tips on where you would park when sleeping in your Tesla? I thought about doing a long trip and seeing if I would be able to sleep comfortably in a model 3….
As someone who has owned regular gas cars, hybrids and a model 3 now I'm gonna disagree. Hybrids are just the best due to the long range. There still are unfortunatly places that are too far out for a full trip. Take for example yellowstone, when I try to run a trip planner through tesla it just tells me "Oops! It looks like something went wrong, please try again." I'm assuming because it just can't do it. As much as I love my new long range model 3 I am just really disappointed with the range on it. If I drive like a granny in chill mode I can only manage about 275 miles. My hybrids I could get at least 500. Also my last road trip on the Oregon coast the superchargers sucked and where in horrible spots, 1st one was at at strip mall with no food or restrooms anywhere nearby. Same with the second one. The last one in Newport had a taco bell across the street, but that was about it. Also many new cars have features like auto pilot, but I agree with you, once you've experienced it then it is very hard to do a long trip without it.
@@GrumpyWolfTech I looked into a bit! I think it’s a national park thing. It’s super weird. If I navigate to Zion National park, it says no route. Maybe cause it’s determining to go to the center of the park with no roads? But if I enter a parking lot of Zion, it has no issues. Same with yellowstone
I don't like how it can change destinations for the super charger if the stops are closeby. I couldn't get the original stop that I wanted because of the automatic navigation too the chargers during my roadtrip.
Good information. Thank you. But to be honest I don’t see how getting takeout and eating in your car (EV) is more convenient than taking 3 minutes to fill up your car with gas and relaxing at a restaurant to eat (ICE).
You can sit down at a restaurant while you charge also - you're just limited to what's nearby. This was for a place you wanted to go to that isn't walking distance from a charger to save the most time.
I drive a 2024 Highland standard range rear wheel drive (red white) with an LFP battery. What strategy do I have on a road trip? I've had the car for a couple months I don't know what to expect Other than letting my car tell me what to do and where to charge. Being an LFP I don't think getting to a next charger with a 50 or 10% left is going to make any difference in the speed at which my car charges in my case. Am I wrong?
You're sort of right! I think your car is limited to 170kw of charge if I'm not mistaken, so I'd say about 35% is where that "cut off" would be. Getting to a charger with less than around there wouldn't yield a higher charging rate.
Charging every 1;5 to 2 hours delays your time to your destination. Gasoline car only needs one time filling from the departure destination to your arrival and have a range of over 500 miles midsize cars for similarly priced cars. Model Y is a great car and spacious but the range is still to little.
Another person that can drive a million miles in between gas fill ups and never have to use a bathroom or get something to eat, good for you ! 😁👍🏾Maybi interest you in a 400 mile Tesla Model S? Or how bout a 500 mile Lucid Air?
Just a heads up, if you allow your Tesla to go below 20% charge and an issue comes up w it battery wise, Tesla will not honor your warranty. That’s why I keep it above 20% as much as possible. Many horror stories about battery failure on TH-cam and Reddit.
Love your videos. Been doing lots of research before I get my first Tesla! So excited
Thank you! I was in your shoes 2.5 years ago lol.

Awesome! Have fun! Glad to help

Love it! They're the easiest road trip cars
Gonna pick up a tesla 6 hours away in az. Looking forward to trying these tips out, thank you.
Awesome! Enjoy your trip
You nailed this video. Bravo 10/10. All factual and good information.
Appreciate the feedback! Glad it was helpful!
Good stuff! Thanks. Though sleeping in my car would be impossible with the way we pack.
Haha that's an issue!
informative and just in time for my first road trip, thank you friend
Thanks for watching!

Any time a charger is in the navigation route, whether it’s a stop or your final destination, the car will precondition the battery as necessary.
No, it’s already navigating to the supercharger if it’s in your trip.
Seems like other comments have answered - but yes if they're in the navigation it'll automatically precondition!
Great info !! Not sure if it was just my video but towards the end it was glitching and switching from side to side!
Hmm I hope it was just yours - mine seems okay!
FIRST!!! And YES a road trip(ish) video
Hope you guys are well happy holidays
Happy holidays! Stay tuned for Christmas time!
I love AutoPilot.... made the 6 hours each way KC to OKC super easy this past weekend.
That’s awesome!

Awesome! Camp mode is amazing. I’ve used it many times and it works great. Hope you can get one for yourself soon!

If it’s just you the model 3 is plenty of room! We slept in the parking lot of a truck stop once and we felt really safe
8:40 💯
Lmao
i could imagine the m3 could be charged with the 350w or maybe it would be adaptive. to accommodate variation
@@businessmanph I don’t think it’s being made with it but maybe in a future software upgrade!
Hi, when you said at the end of the video, about autopilot, not full FSD right? just regular autopilot?
That does most of the driving on highways? Yep, autopilot!
I like 10/15% arriving based on next supercharger and distance to it
Solid buffer

Interesting, I can’t navigate to Yellowstone either but maybe that’s some weird glitch. There’s a supercharger right outside the park
@@vegasteslafamily Good to know it's not just me 😆

What wrap colour your car?
Matte aura pearl

Yeah you have to override it sometimes - It has gotten better though

EV road trips are awesome in good weather. Cold weather just kills it.
Kill is a strong word

More stops more often? I drive 400 miles, spend 10 minutes refueling, then I can drive 400 miles.
Nice!

Please next time on your road trip do a BAON Adobo and rice tell your wife
I've had it before!
She said if you cook it we will bring it 😂

Yeah I don't think this is true. I've read my owner manual and warranty end to end and that's never been mentioned
