I bought an E120 a few years ago. 76 hours on it now and it still runs and looks like new. Great mowers.

I love my L110! It has been awesome, and I use it commercially as well. Has over 680 hours, and the front axle pivot is just almost wore out. Looking at a John Deere X370 to replace it. I will say my 95’ John Deere Stx38 is way more fun to run due to the electric PTO, and manual transaxle.

I’m pretty sure the front of the deck is supposed to be a 1/8 - 1/2 in LOWER than the rear, so it doesn’t double cut the grass.

Best review I’ve found yet in this mower. I just bought the S160 but it hasn’t been delivered yet. Also, I was going to use the compartment for a sammich but yes, great okVe for a gun too. LOL.

To keep the mower running while getting off to move something, just turn off the deck and put the e-brake on and the motor will stay running.

I love my Snapper 33inch. It will cut down to the dirt. It's slow. Old manual style. But the high lift blades keeps me from sweeping the lawn. I have a John Deere I use on the back lawn. The Snapper does the front.

Glad I found this, swapping from Floratam to Tifgrand is Spring and going to pickup a JD X350 in a few months. I may try cutting with it but will most likely stick to my 26" Baroness for sure.

I myself would take off the hideous grass chute and turn the deck into a mulching mower. Mulching is very healthy for your lawn and taking the chute off makes it much easier to get up and close to everything including gates and openings of any size.

Easy Change filter retails for about $40, changes out less than a quart of the total oil. Not clear if that matters to the engine long-term.
I'm looking at the E130, which has many of the same features but fits my need better.
Surprisingly, It's hard to beat JD on price, considering engine HP, drive-train and mowing-width. Online reviews like the build quality, as well.
    Thanks for your viewpoint.

I put a bypass oil filter on my tractor to improve the oil life and filter the smaller contaminates out.
Main engine filter is every 100 hours and the engine sump oil is once a year😊

My wife (from another country) thought I was lying about cutting the neighbors grass when I got the new mower. After getting our yard cut for free when they got new mowers, she now accepts it, but still thinks we are strange. And as stated below, those 100 series are low end with low grade transmissions. Get a JD X-series ( or similar with better deck & tranny)

good looking lawn. a better mower is the s240 John Deere with a 42in deck and a mulch kit. the mower deck has heavy duty spindles on the deck. this feature greatly extends the belt life when you cut short grass. it also has a kawasaki engine for increased durability.

You're video has been very helpful - I'm potentially in the market for one of these lawn tractors. As a side note - awesome drone footage shooting this video. May I ask you what were you using? Was it a DJI?

Doc. I am looking hard for a mower to take care of a 1/3 acre of Bermuda on a flat open lot. Do you like your E170? Did you compare to the S240? And do you bag grass with it, if so does it do a good job? Thank you!

I love the tractor I thought about getting a John Deere but I'm getting a 46-inch cut Husqvarna. I've done a lot of research my request to you is watch your rear end for any cracks long term use or rear end oil leakage they have been some complaints about those rear ends which John Deere rear ends and Cub Cadet are the same ones and they've had problems with the Cub Cadets a little not a whole lot but some on the rear ends. The John Deere kind of showed me away due to the upside down oil filter Quick Change due to leaving oil possibly left into motor. That is a wise idea to keep your oil changed at least every 10 hours to 15. I work on mowers lawn tractors all the time. So I decided to go with a Husqvarna 46-inch cut. This one has a 22 Industrial Kohler engine and I don't have as big as yard as you do I have only one acre so it will do me by fine. reason why I'm stepping up to something better and bigger is I'm tired of it junk Troy-Bilt LOL. I'm glad for you that you are enjoying your new John Deere keep me updated if you would on how it performs and any issues you have and I will do the same on my Husqvarna. Have a blessing day

Thanks for your quick response, one more question, how does it do on hills? I noticed there isn’t any hills on your yard but just curious. I heard the D170 or E170 can’t climb a hill to save its life. Any idea?

    • @HowTowithDoc
      @HowTowithDoc  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I have tried it on the neighbor's steep incline and I would give it a "C" on climbing power. I have heard the same thing about using it constantly on hills. i.e. the transmission is not good enough for it. I would talk to John Deere directly and get an extended warranty if you choose it. Also look at one of their models with a tranny made for hills.

Doc, Seems insane to me to only change 30% of the oil with the Easy Change for $40 a pop. Maybe I’m just old school what are your thoughts. Personally I’d rather dump all the oil and put Valvoline synthetic in it.

My son cut my lawn and when finished parked the lawn mower in the garage. When he came back a couple weeks later to use it again, it would not start. The lights work but motor does not turn over, no sound. Can you suggest how we can diagnose what is wrong?

    • @austinbarnes402

Maybe the battery doesn't have enough juice to start the mower, but enough to turn on the headlights. I'd recommend charging the battery.

Actually... established Bermuda lawns have roots that are 14 - 40 inches deep. Root DEPTH... is NOT the issue. It's often a sub-surface issue such as rocks, debris, roots, etc. That is covered in the video FYI.
