New Nano Fish, Mini Orchids & Vivarium Mushrooms

  • I've been planning to get more fish to house with my Danio tinwini (Gold Ring Danios) for some time now. I was waiting until I could find the perfect fish. I think the Microdevario kubotai (Green Kubotai Rasbora) are that fish. The catfish are just an added bonus, if they go in the same tank. Either way I'm very excited to add both to the lineup. More on them in a future video!
As I expressed in the video, I love how there's always something new to see with this hobby. In a way, it's kind of like going outside into nature. I just don't think it could ever get boring! Filming for orchids and then finding mushrooms was a prime example of what I mean.
Here's a pretty cool video I did a long time ago that shows a timelapse of the same mushrooms growing in the old 125. Pretty cool if you ask me! • Video
Also Fritz Zyme 7 was provided with a paid promotion by Fritz Aquatics. It's not something I use all the time, but it really comes in handy when needed.

There's so much that I'm planning for in the next couple of months and this video gives just a little preview on that. Thanks for sticking with me SerpaSquad! Also if you thought those mushrooms were cool, then check out this timelapse video I did a few years back showcasing the same kind of mushrooms in the old 125. th-cam.com/video/JRP-eOBx4KA/w-d-xo.html

Just a thought, Have you checked to see if those shrooms are bioluminescent? Try turning all the room lights off at night and letting your eyes adjust for a few minutes the glow is really faint but supper cool when you get to see it. Viv looks great! Since it appears that your viv is dry enough for Tillandsia you might want to try a Phalaenopsis parishii, or a Phalaenopsis "Princess Kaiulani". When they bloom the whole viv will smell great. You might even be able to smell "Princess Kaiulani" with the viv doors closed! Both are very compact without tall bloom spikes. As with all Phals be extremely careful about mealy bugs. I only buy Phals in flask these days.
    Cheers,
    Chris

Anchor cats are some of my favorite fish! I'd really recommend getting more of them, since they're much more outgoing in larger numbers. A friend told me to get at least 6 and they went from a fish I never see to a fish that will come out with the lights on no matter what time of day I feed.
They're great with shrimp, since their mouths are too small to eat the babies.

From a woodworker: If you're working with wood that has large areas of soft wood between large grain lines (like pine), using a clear coat (often called a 'wash coat') before applying the stain will make the finished product look much better. Because the soft wood between the grain absorbs much more stain than the much denser grain, Not using a wash coat creates a real muddy look when stain is applied directly to the wood, as well as highlighting any imperfections or sanding lines more so than most people would like. The wash coat fills the micro pores and gouges in the soft wood, stopping it from absorbing too much stain. You can find wash coats under the labels "pre-stain" and "wood conditioner". Btw, despite any directions you may read telling you to apply the stain shortly after the washcoat, it's actually advisable to let the washcoat cure overnight; Otherwise, the stain can bleed into the washcoat and cause a blotchy finish.

  • @LifeInABoxorigin
    @LifeInABoxorigin 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I totally agree with you about the wood staining. It might take longer, but the reward seems well worth it.
Also i love how the mushrooms look so much like the glowing mushrooms in some caves. They give the illusion of a much deeper and more mysterious cave formation than it actually is. :)

I have a few varieties of jewel orchids and love them. I grow them in self-watering pota with sphagnum moss as mulch to keep the humidity up. I enjoy them as houseplants and am looking forward to seeing them bloom. I have a little terrarium on my wish list so I can grow orchids that require more humidity than my humidifier can provide. I have mostly mini phalaenopsis from the grocery store. I have a doritaenopsis pulcherrima hybrid that is a warm grower and blooms constantly which is great in a hot climate like Arizona. It's October 1st and it was in the upper 90s yesterday but the nights are finally cooling down until the 70s. I just got an intergeneric oncidium hybrid yesterday. It's huge and the flowers are breathtaking. I saw it at Trader Joe's and knew that I couldn't leave it behind.

Hey Tanner, to help with mold on the spider wood, if you mix up a spray of 10 parts water to 1 part hydrogen peroxide (3%) and mist it once or twice daily, it should be all gone in 2-3 days. I’ve used this on a large scale and because of being inspired by your channel, I went and did some research and it is apparently safe to use with fish and amphibians. Peroxide has been used to help save fish populations in the event of toxic spills in waterways because it increases the O2 levels in the water and; in my own experience, it has helped with better root health of my plants. Thanks so much for all your hard work and beautiful content!!!

I totally agree with the wooden shelf, it makes things pop and it's just lovely on its own. Painting a piece like that black or even white ruins it.

Looking awesome! Definitely a good call making that stand, well worth the time and effort since it helps maintain the overall aesthetic of the room.
I can't help picturing Mourning Geckos in that 125, which do in fact live happily with small frogs!

I Love how microdevario kubotai look in a planted tank. I hope you have a lot of flow in there. They really hog the filter outflow area in my tank. Man, are they such little Divas! Haven't gotten to the end of the video yet. Looking forward to seeing how they look in there enjoy.
