I would not recommend metal rod (definitely not with a sharp end) for the cleaning as it can scratch the surface of the drain tube creating a potential future rust area. A plastic rod or pressure washer combined with a vacuum cleaner does the job very well.
Anyone have a W123 wagon frame they want to get rid of? I bought a 1985 wagon - everything works! But it lived by the sea in the north east - Nantucket - and the frame is rotten away. I am about to start cutting out the rust and welding new metal in, but could use a wagon body if anyone has one!
Great video Michael! Thanks for the info.

Just use a length of speedo cable on a drill at low speed.
