Hope you enjoyed - Subscribe and drop a like for more content - & despite many different opinions, and the mistakes that he has made, Don Cherry had many moments to look back on and should still be recognized for how he helped grow the game of hockey in many significant ways. When my Uncle, who was a lifelong hockey player and huge Don Cherry fan, was dying of cancer someone got word to Don that his dying wish was to meet him....he showed up at the hospital with no entourage or P.R person and a bunch of "swag" (hats, pictures et...etc..) and spent a considerable amount of time chatting with Bobby and signing autographs and then gave him his personal cell phone # in case he ever needed to talk. THAT'S the kind of man Don Cherry is. End of story. (Whoever put the piano sounds to Don tapping the table is a genius! That was HILARIOUS!)

    The thing you have to understand about Don Cherry to fully appreciate him is this: He is 100% authentic. When he gets worked up over these issues, he is absolutely, totally emotionally invested. He takes these issues personally with deep, deep sense of pride. There is no one on the planet who is more passionate about hockey than he is.

    • @alwillk
      @alwillk ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The game of hockey had passed him up in the late 90s. He was still advocating for goons and dump and chase. When the game was now puck possession and speed.

    • @chevelle1
      @chevelle1 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@alwillkYou’re conflating the goon stuff (which I don’t think anyone wants that) with hard nosed, tough hockey, which is a lot of dump and chase. You may be right in regular season hockey, but not the playoffs.
      The type of hockey Don Cherry always liked is what successful playoff teams do, then and now, hasn’t changed. Watch especially conference final and SC finals’ series. Nobody is doing the Michigan or dancing around with time and space. It’s off the glass and out, chip and chase, hard forecheck, board battles for possession, blocking shots face first, garbage goals from rebounds and net front battles. It’s war for every inch of ice and the teams that have the tenacity, testosterone and top players that are high end tough skill, as opposed to high end soft skill, that go on runs.

    • @mattc9364
      @mattc9364 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Your issue isn't with the PM, it's with your fellow Canadian's who ignored it all and voted him in. Trudeau didn't elect himself, the people of Canada made that decison. Also, Cherry was given the opportunity to make a statement and apologize or atleast make a statement about what he said, but he declined and decided to walk. He wasn't fired, he was given an opportunity and declined. How is an employer supposed to deal with insubordination?

      He doesn’t need a job in sports analytics anymore ( he was most likely in one of his last contracts with Sportsnet, but sadly because of negative reviews from people watching his segment without fully understanding where he comes from or what he is truly trying to say his contract got terminated) he still got compensated, has a pension plan, owns a restaurant chain and a wine orchard as well as a flourishing clothing brand. The man did extremely well for himself and should be admired by all. It’s sad that the voices of few took this man off the air but unfortunately this is the world we live in.

      Ian Don said in an interview with CityTv Toronto and Toronto Sun that he meant to say everyone and it came out wrong. He didn’t mean to say immigrants. But from how he explained it, i think he meant everyone regardless of their nationality weren’t wearing as many poppies as they used to. He definitely has a point that regardless of whether you are an immigrant or not, you should be wearing poppies. Otherwise you are not a grateful Canadian.

    Don cherry for PM.. he was accurate about immigrants not wearing the poppy . However I would add the new generation of kids don't wear it either. My grandfather, who didn't speak English at all, would repped the poppy .. my father, who spoke broken English, wore the poppy all in November. I still wear the poppy as a millennial and the truth is I don't see many white, brown, black, red and yellow kids these days wearing it .
