    The problem with Edward VIII choosing to stay "true to himself" was that because he gave up the throne, everyone else had to stop being themselves and take on that responsibilities.

      yeah ikr, meanwhile if charles had given up the throne for camilla, we could've had princess anne as our queen, which would've been amazing. diana would've been alive. charles and camilla would've lived happily ever after, instead of hated and cursed by the whole world. but i guess we wouldn't have had harry, william. then kate, louis, george and charlotte. it's tragic but i guess things happened for a reason. Oh please. The man has barely lifted his pinky finger ever since he was born with a golden spoon in his mouth. In other words, Charles has barely experienced what the actual common British working man goes through daily with exhausting work hours, trying to pay taxes on top of rent/mortgage and food.
      His little love triangle problem with Camilla and Diana is trife that little highschool boys experience and grow out of by the time they're in college. The common British man today is so overworked & underpaid that he barely has time to even think about being in a stupid love triangle.

    Camilla once wrote a letter to Diana that said she couldn't wait to see her ring in person when they had lunch and put it on her bed. Diana knew about the affair at the time.
    Diana once found out about their being a ball which the prince had told her not to attend and she went knowing that he would invite Camilla. She went downstairs to the basement and saw the two talking. She confronted them and Camilla protested "its easy for you, you have your sons".
    Recently Camilla said that Kate Middleton should not marry William because she is too common.
    Camilla is not a good woman and there is nothing about her that is remarkable. She is a greedy and vindictive person who coveted a married man with two children and had the nerve to continue after his wife died.

      I just know that the Crown was a well done drama… Loosely based in fact. And I’m not British, so I’m looking at this as a total outsider. The way she was portrayed in the show, it did provide me with some sympathy for her…

    • @marigold6920
      @marigold6920 2 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Julie Hertz The incident you are speaking of when Diana confronted Camilla was not a ball.
      It was a private Birthday Party.
      Diana was invited but it was not expected that she would accompany Charles.
      At the time that Diana confronted Camilla about Charles, Diana herself was or had been involved in her own affairs. Barry Mannake and James Hewitt.
      So. In that context Camilla's response to Diana at that time was quite understandable. Yes Diana said that she wanted her husband but by that time she herself had already had 1 or 2 other men.
      Context is everything.
      Furthermore you yourself say that Diana knew about Charles affair with Camilla even at the time of the engagement and yet she married him!
      Camilla loves Charles. That is very obvious. They are happy and they were meant for each other.
      Camilla has always been a relaxed, warm hearted and down to earth country woman. She never sought the Crown.
      It was Diana who dreamed of being the Princess of Wales whereas Camilla has always loved Charles the man.

      @@marigold6920 Regardless of her having her own affairs, Charles married a 19 year old girl and took complete advantage of her and caused her to suffer. Had he not been unfaithful to her, from the very beginning, I doubt that Diana would have had any affairs. If Charles loved Camilla so much, why did he not step aside and forget about being the next king? Camilla, being ‘warm hearted’ is a joke considering she continued to see a married man with children, and didn’t care about the pain and suffering her and Charles were causing Diana.

    • @julieherz8909
      @julieherz8909 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@marigold6920 It was a birthday party, you're correct about that. I can't agree about Diana not loving Charles though. She was asked whether she would take him back even after it all happened and she said she would. Every time she was asked whether she loved him she said yes and he diverted the question.
      I believe Diana loved Charles more than Camilla. Love is about letting go and liberating. Love is about thinking about the other person before yourself. Diana let Charles go even when she had 2 sons with him. Camilla made Charles risk his future throne, the stability of his family, his marriage, his reputation simply because of their attraction. If she loved Charles she would also love his sons, she would have let the relationship go out of respect for them and how they must feel about her now their mother is dead.
      I believe she has lust for Charles and that a lot of it is based on the story of her grandmother who was the mistress of his grandfather.

    • @hellund2874
      @hellund2874 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@julieherz8909 I agree that love also means knowing when to stop, but you got it the wrong way around. It was Diana who would not give up Charles even when he was very direct about wanting a divorce (remember the scene in The Crown when it's Diana who refuses to give up on the marriage and forces in front of his parents to try again) Camilla on the other hand told Charles a good few times that there was no future in it for them and to forget about her. Btw in real life Camilla gets on well with Charles' sons, so that is not the issue. I think Camilla was seriously tired of all the drama and just wanted to be with Charles in peace but that was tragically only possible after the accident.

    'The Crown' should reflect reality. Let the Queen's life of service remind us of the huge, tangible power for peace and stability the British monarchy is for everyone in Britain, the commonwealth and for the world. In the 19th & 20th centuries the U.S.A, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Greece suffered in various ways civil wars, political storms, and dictatorships. This shows what can go wrong in the absence of a head of state which is above politics, which opposes illegal dictatorship and helps keep the peace. If there are many reasons England, Wales, Scotland, Canada and Australia have had no civil war since Culloden in 1746, having a constitutional monarchy is an important one. In the UK, 'peace' in formal speech is "The Queen's Peace".
    Of course the Queen & Prince Philip had their failings as parents, and Prince Philip could be tactless. Whatever mistakes the royal family have made, let us be grateful for the service they give, and for the difference the monarchy makes for the better, in the world. There will always be violence in the world, and billions of people who know or understand nothing of the British monarchy. The value of the British crown since the 1700s is, many billions of people have lived under it without civil war, lynching, dictatorship in their lives.
