Try having a perfect game, knowing that you've been dominant all day, haven't allowed a single player reach base in anyway, go to 2 outs in the 9th and then broken up by a bloop single or a bad call by the umpire, then make that joke you piece of trash.

They shouldn't have to include it because it's widely known as the 28-out perfect game. Everybody knows that Donald was out by a step and a half, disgusting that Bud Selig said that "we don't need instant replays, the fans don't want to see instant replays", then 4 years later "oh yea the Clubs and I all favored the instant replays being expanded." So glad he resigned.

Instant replay would've given Gallaraga his perfect game.
He's the main reason MLB switched to HAVING instant replay. And he's way more known for doing this than perfect game throwers like Dallas Braden, Phillip Humber, and Matt Cain. He'll be remembered forever because of this

In a strange twist of fate, Galarraga threw the most famous perfect game in MLB history. One day the books will be righted on this. Official records aside, the missed call by Jim Joyce gifted Galarraga the opportunity for something even better. Handling the entire situation gracefully and accepting Joyce's apology by stating "nobody's perfect" Galarraga became the center star of one of baseball's great stories.

Galarraga threw a perfect game. After the game, Jim Joyce admitted that he made the biggest mistake of his professional career. Galarraga forgave Joyce as he took the batting card out to him the next day. Joyce was in tears and patted Galarraga on the back. Galarraga held no grudge either. I guess what pissed me off then, and still pisses me off to this day is that Bud Selig chose not to reverse the call to give Galarraga the perfect game. How could they do that to my Tigers!
Joyce messed up, but he admitted to his mistake and took the yelling like a man and didn't get offended and later apologized. I can respect that.

It should have been a priority from the 90s to get the technology fast enough and clear enough to do so... And after 2010 or so ESPECIALLY, the leagues have zero excuse in my mind. But it still took most another half a decade to seriously start implementing it across north American major sports...
The refs and umps shouldn't be forced into this situation imo, when it's not needed... A quick review rewrites this history the proper way, and doesn't leave Jim Joyce the villain when it's unnecessary to do that...
Umps should have a sign for safe/out, AND I need a quick second look at that one... It's too important for me to get wrong...
Well whether or not he got the perfect game didn't affect the Tigers at all. They still got the win. I can't imagine Jim Joyce slept at all that night. Good thing it was baseball in America and not another sport internationally, otherwise there was a good chance there'd be at least one attempt on his life. The only one it affected was Galarraga. And if he forgave him, no one else should hold the grudge.
I have seen perfect games broken up in the 9th inning before, but always on legit plays. It was painful seeing Gallaraga lose his on some garbage like that.

The entire concept of a "perfect game" doesn't exist _without_ calls/rulings. A perfect game is literally defined _by_ those calls and rulings.
Armondo absolutely does not have a perfect game. Yes, he should. But he doesn't. You can _believe_ that he does if you want, but you're just denying the world around you since we exist in a reality where he doesn't. As heartbreaking as that is... he doesn't.

an apology isn’t enough, a perfect game is one of the hardest things to do in baseball and he got robbed.
You don't decide if an apology is enough; Galarraga does. And he forgives Joyce so. Joyce felt bad about it, he was in tears when he gave out the apology. Joyce made a mistake, it cost someone a Perfect Game, but in the end Joyce did what he could to try to make things right, and I bet Joyce still loses sleep over this sometimes.

Galaraga and Joyce actually wrote a book about it called “Nobody’s Perfect.” They are good friends.

I had forgotten about that Austin Jackson catch in the Gallaraga game. My word. Given the situation that has to be one of the best regular season catches ever. Up there with DeWayne Wise in the Buehrle perfect game.
Honestly that's one of the saddest parts about that game is that while Galarraga will be remembered forever, all people will remember is the missed call. Not Jackson's catch or the fact that Galarraga's performance was one of the greatest in baseball history. The infamous play that should've been the last out was only his 88th pitch. Would've been the fewest in a PG in a century.

I was there in DC for that Max Scherzer almost perfect game. As a Pirates fan myself I was disappointed that Tobata stuck his arm into the pitch to ultimately ruin that game. Such a shame... but then again I was there to witness history
I was at the game too. I try to take solace in the fact that It's rarer to see a perfect game lost on the last out. Plus it was still a no-hitter.
Gallaraga’s by far the most heartbreaking. From AJ starting the 9th making that Willie Mays basket catch, literally to watching the replay, I get sad all these years later for him

I remember watching Mussina lose his perfect game in Boston live. I was a 13 year old Yankee fan and cried because I hated Carl Everett so much. I had no idea it was the second time it had happened.

There is one huge omission from the list of pitchers and this video ... perhaps because there was no film footage of the game. In 1959, Harvey Haddix of visiting Pittsburgh retired the first 27 Milwaukee Braves, but his team failed to score any runs themselves. Amazingly, he kept his perfect game intact through the 10th, 11th, and 12th innings, but the score was still 0-0 going into the 13th. And his team again failed to score in the top of the inning.
In the bottom of the 13th, the leadoff hitter reached on an error. Next batter sacrificed him to 2nd base. The next batter was Henry Aaron, and Haddix gave him an intentional walk -- the perfect game was gone anyway, and it set up a possible double-play. But the next batter, Joe Adcock, hit a pitch over the fence and into the stands, just beyond the outfielder's glove!
To make things even more bizarre, Aaron touched 2nd base, saw the lead runner score, thought the game was over, and headed to the dugout. Adcock ran out his home run and was declared out for passing Aaron on the base paths! So after review, the final score of the game was officially Milwaukee 1, Pittsburgh 0.

Obviously if he’s carving up the other team they leave him in but if he’s given up a couple runs and he’s thrown 80-90 pitches there’s no reason to keep him in and risk more runs while ruining your pitcher’s arm. Bullpen guys are there for a reason
Moose is a textbook example of a professional pitcher. Denied a perfect game twice in the ninth inning and you’d never be able to tell from his composure. He just kept his head up and got the last batter both times. Master control of his emotions.
Even as a Twins fan Gallaraga threw a perfect game. After the game was over the ump admitted he had made the wrong call.

I remember listening to the Yankees-Red Sox game on the radio with my family and being on the edge of our seats when Mussina was ONE STRIKE AWAY from the perfecto, only to be crushed when we heard that it was a base hit. Not being able what had happened only added to the disappointment.
I watched that game on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball. I watched it again on Monday as it became an instant classic on ESPN classic.

Us Detroit Tiger fans remember Milt Wilcox' perfect game bid against the Chicago White Sox in 1983 being broken up with again, two outs in the ninth. That time it was a clean base hit by Jerry Hairston.

I once heard somebody say this so I thought I’d just repeat it: even though Galaraga wasn’t awarded with an official perfect game, he is still the pitcher that comes to your mind first when you think of a perfect game.

Petit will forever be one of the most underrated Giants from their glory days. So wanted him to be immortalized on that day.
I blame these all on the fact that the commentators talked about the fact that they had perfect games/no hitters

Out of all the iconic pitchers of the late mid-late 90's, Mussina might be my favorite.
Joyce felt like shit, he knows he missed the call, but still the most hated mustache in umpire history.

The Gallarraga game is heartbreaking. If ever there was a situation that tells you why replay is needed, it’s that one. Too bad replay came along later.

What everyone is overlooking is that by Galarraga not getting credited for a Perfect Game he instead was able to demonstrate the PERFECT REACTION and set the PERFECT EXAMPLE for others to follow when faced with the ultimate unfair situation - and what other Perfect Game Pitcher has done that. And don't discount how Jim Joyce handled himself after the absolute Perfect Mistake - he straight-up owned it and made no excuses. This wasn't a Perfect Game, but it was Perfect Humanity
If Galarraga himself forgave Jim Joyce, maybe everyone else should forgive him too.

Pedro threw 9 perfect frames in San Diego but his Expos couldnt get him a run.
They scored 1 in the 10th, and Pedro promptly gave up a double to lead off the 10th.
