Chris is a good teacher. Have you guys ever thought about doing occasional seminars at the garage? I'd pay to take a 2 hour motorcycle class with Chris teaching. There's a local motorcycle garage/co-op work space near me that does classes. It's like 50 bucks for a 2 hour class on basic maintenance or electronics or carburetors, there's a few different ones to chose from. I signed up for a couple classes next month. I'm curious to see how they are.
Definitely appreciate how informative Chris ⛄️ gets with explaining the process. Used to appreciate that about when you guys were building Goldzilla too. Good stuff guys!

Some came with stage 1 already completed - my FXDL was one of them. There’s something strange about my ride too - seems to have much more power than it should have. No cam but my god the torque on the low end and HP on the upper end will absolutely break your neck. 2017 and only 5400 miles on her. She beautiful 🤩
I like these videos, I used to ride Harley's when I could afford them now I have a Road Star 1700 that sounds just like my old Shovelhead... I bought a 2000 deuce (twin cam) that to me did not sound like a Harley at all, I was disappointed and sold it.
it amazes me just how simple yet complicated ICE are and hoe they work. It's hard to imagine the speed of the all those parts going around and it works.
I love all the explanations of why and how you're doing what you are in the stage 2 upgrade. I would have like to have seen how you got the push rods back in.

What about the "O" ring / gasket on the back of the oil pump? It wasn't in my instructions from S&S but was on a video from them. When I didn't have it installed oil came out my Trask "Check m8" so I had to install it. S&S said it was needed. The trouble didn't start until I went up to a 128".
Great content guys! Just curious why you continued to install the S&S oil plate when S&S recommends no more than 5 thousandths runout on the pinion shaft? Was it the customers call?

@@BlockheadMoto Chris is exactly why I asked the question. He was a Harley employee and likely has experience with the SE oil pump and cam plate. I'm sure more of your followers would love the comparison info of the different brands of oil pumps. I've seen videos showing the % numbers of increased flow for the Fueling and the S&S parts but haven't seen a TH-cam video comparing the SE to those two brands.

Interested in stage 2 maybe but is there a trade-off between power and engine reliability/lifespan when you go to stage 2? If the motor is breathing and working that much more (due to more duration and lift of cam), are you in effect shortening its life and reliability on the road for those long cross country trips? (Maybe I think about this too much since I'm 70+ years old.) Any thoughts appreciated.

question, the S&S installation instructions call for a maximun runout of 5 thousandths with the billet cam plate...so is 8 thousandths too much or will the new camplate be ok? I'm installing a 465 cam kit with pump and cam plate this weekend. I'm hoping that I have runout below 5....just curious, I noticed you said 8 thousandths on the runout...
@@popsproductions8547 Don't really have a problem with off-idle or low rpm bucking. They just pull a LOT stronger through the RMP range. I do a lot of low speed maneuvering practice with cones just as a general rule to improve my control and haven't noticed any problem with low speed friction zone clutching / control.
@@williamokeefe9677 ah yes like preloading to do sharp 8’s. Yes i find myself using the clutch a ton more to solve my issue at slow speeds. But this was doing it up near 2,200 rpm in lower gears. It needed tuned i guess. So we will see how the new bike (Toad King) gets tuned after its stage2. I went power vision this time.

My biggest issues are keeping a steady RPM for low speed practice, actually have found a little higher RPM to help and the friction zone differences. Heritage has cable clutch and a nice wide zone; Ultra is hydraulic with a short zone and fast engagement. Going back and forth takes some attention.

Put a S&S 475 in my M8 114 Breakout and dyno tuned it with power vision software. Made 124 horse and 136 ft lbs of torque. Love this cam.
Great video-would of been helpful to include the installation and adjustment of the pushrods-key part of the installation in my opinion.

I love my carbed EVO's! One 1995XLH1200 with the older Crane cam and programable electronic module, the other is a stock1997 1343.
