Yeah. This is really growing on me. The first time I saw/ filmed them, I didn't really understand what was going on, but the more I listen, the more I like it. I've been playing this clip over and over. There is a crazy Dub remix here soundcloud.com/introwithlaradio/intro-with-la-240618 The whole podcast is worth a listen btw. I love La's show.
X Xington they are very young indeed. Under twenty?Good old Marc Riley eh? Where'd we be without him to introduce us to the great new bands. These guys are topping my viewing figures for the last couple of months. I don't know if you saw that the weird backing track / vocals is the guitarist holding his phone against the strings. There is such a buzz at their gigs. Gonna be big despite their pretty low profile.
My first video of them is coming up for two years old now! Better late than never though eh? They were playing together a bit before that too. Much before that they were foetuses!
Echoing what people said that this was really cool to see something from so early even if (imo) the pieces aren't quite all together yet. I hope this channel and these videos stick around for a long, long time, really appreciate everything. I saw them myself for the first time about a year ago, and it was incredible, both the band and the energy in the venue.
Thanks. Yes it's pretty early this one, but also pretty hot. I hope the channel gets to stick around too. Depends on what future copyright enforcement brings. So far I am tolerated!
Was as good a set as at Green Man with the lead driving his guitar around the stage. Drummer was immense but couldn't see him too well as the back lighting was right in my face. I found out they were the secret set on the Friday when I got chatting to a lad at the bar from a band called Squid; they played before BM on the Rising Stage at GM. We need more from these guys for sure.
Yeah! drummer man is hard to capture, but boy does he have the moves. Hard to say what sort of a band they would be with a different drummer. It's a great fusion they've got going on.
@@theleopardpriestess809 i was tempted to go see them again @ brudnell the week after manc, I was in town! Hopefully they'll be around for years to come though
this video is a pure historic document. BM in one of their first performances, at Windmill, even before Schlagenheim was released. jeez, thanks.
It's great when you find one of those nuggets. Glad I was there.
amazing
🙏
This is actually their 7th performance there, and the members are like what, 18? Crazy.
Someone’s been counting! Have you seen earlier footage?
i want to hear black midi for the first time again
Take some mushrooms and put on shuffle.
I feel the same now
the distortion due to the mic makes it sound like Big Black, makes the bass the filthy sound they're known for. fuck yeah
Filthy!
The guitar player/singer looks like Danny from The Room.
I'll have to take your word for it. ;)

That drummer has talent. Wow

don't forget the two seconds of "Of Schlagenheim" at 7:10
Never.
What a magnificent purpose!
This is great.I get a hint of the experimental stuff like early pavement etc.
Fantastic 10/10

Thanks for filming this Lou. Black Midi are such an interesting enigma.
Cheers John. Yes a puzzle in an enigma wrapped in a sonic overblanket.
Had the pleasure of Photographing these guys during the ESNS here in Groningen. Awesome band. Drummer rocks!
Thank you for catching all of their early performances!! It's interesting to see how much they've evolved.
Thanks, and you're welcome. I've been super happy too that I was there to witness the inception, and to then watch them own huge festival stages.
Holy shit, how old are these guys?
I'd only heard bmbmbm on Marc Riley, but live? Tons of spectacular sonics.

At the time they were 17
@@LouSmith and they were big indeed
@@StudioScarecrow Indeed they have become.
You know what the best part about discovering these guys while they're in your town? Being deathly sick. So fun.
They've been playing for a YEAR and I'm just now hearing about them?

9:35 my favorite little drum thing in this performance. goodness gracious.
that hi hat fill at 10:01 in fucking particular
nicotine&gravy fuck did he do that by himself?? There's no way
Awwww baby greep he looks so young here

Lou Smith thank you for recording sir
@@benlawer7564 It's what I love to do.
right before bmbmbm he was about to play Of Schlagenheim, I was wondering if you have any footage of their performance of that?
I'm guessing off it's not there it don't exist. That was a very early recording before I knew that every second was gonna be like gold.
Guess the closest we’ll get to an early of schlag is NTS session
Happy 4 years of shlagenheim!
Barely out of nappies.
the performance is outstanding, but the ability some people have to stay still first row is beyond my comprehension
Takes years of steadfastly remaining in one’s bedroom.

Saw them at Green Man this weekend - the obvious highlight of the festival - they were on the smallest stage.
leehazlewoodism they'll get a bigger stage next year!
I saw that too, also saw them at EOTR this weekend doing a secret set; was well pleased when I found out.
How were they at EOTR? I had to leave on the Sunday around 2, so didn't get to see them. I knew they were on alright. Not the best-kept secret.

Lou Smith, The Wizened Scribe.
I'm not sure I understand this. Wizard maybe.
Crazy energy! Can't wait to check this out @ Roskilde '19!
Have a good one!
Same, it's gonna be dope
Would have just wish they'd play on gloria instead of pavillion
Roll on Monday night! ☝

I really love the sound from geordies guitar at 16:49
Can’t argue with that.

Always a pleasure to get some BM in the can.
Back when Matt was normal
Before the bang on the head you mean?
@@LouSmith nah its just that in recent performances he does really crazy shit on stage whereas here hes relatively normal
Being catapulted into the near super group status from nowhere in like a year might do that to a man.

12:00 I lost my stew
Bloody brilliant!!
This was pretty early BM
