- For the new year, i clean out my bookshelves and cut my tbr pile down as much as I can! Also, this is my first unhaul, yikes. I love reading, but sometimes you gotta say goodbye to some books!

My tbr is now basically a list on Goodreads unless I find one from the list for a great price

30 books in a TBR??? I wish, try over 1,000. When I started really reading years ago, my goal was to have a mini Barnes & Noble in my house, and I believe I've reached that goal. Now I just have to learn to read faster!

Imke Merckx Ik your comment is like 2 months old but if you wanna buy books and just don’t have a lot of money to do so you can try used book stores and places like value village or goodwill and they sell books! Also if you’re Canadian or american you should try book outlet as they also have cheaper books but they’re unused!

Another tip: don’t buy any books in December and the weeks before your birthday! If you are a bit of a book nerd, someone will give you a book :)
Actually, I find unhauls great. Space is scarce and sometimes we keep books we don't care much for.
I only keep the books I really love.otherwise,once read,they get donated.

i am so glad that i am not the only one who is just now reading harry potter because i am only 13 but i feel like kids start reading that series at like the age of 10 or 11, but its comforting that i am not alone with being a late starter, let me know how you like it because im on the 3rd book and i am loving the series already!
As a cinéphile and artist, I can relate in the sense of having downloaded pile of films and just downloading more... And having lots of things you want to draw and then having more things you want to draw.

i like this. i need to adopt this mindset. i have some books that have been in my TBR for a decade or so. i've just got to admit to myself i'll never read some of those.

It's not materialistic! You yourself said that it's a relief from stress.
It's more a "Eh, I should read this because I once took this commitment" than anything else.
If I were in your shoes, I would keep Rose and Dagger. There's no rush to get rid of a sequel to a book you've loved so much and are having second thoughts about unhauling. You can always unhaul it later if you decide that: "yeah, no. I'm not gonna read that book."
Did you read that book ? I have the first book here but I am kinda afraid to start reading it...does the sequel has a happy ending?

This really inspirired me to go through my own shelf and see what I can unhaul
I did a huge unhaul at the end of last year. Got rid of 98% of my TBR. And even got rid of some of my read books. I figured, since I am back to being able to use the library again, I can get most from there..if I read them, like them, I can make a choice whether to buy them for my read shelf or not. There's some that I kept that I'm adding to my unhaul bag as I finish them. Reading one of those now. There are two books from my library I read that I put on my wish list/to buy shelf on thriftbooks. You'll still have your tbr, it just won't be something you physically own and you won't stress about getting to it. If you take it off of your physical tbr, you can always pick it up at your library if you have access to one. Or, just re-buy it when you know you will read it again. I couldn't get into The Devil Wears Prada book either. Glad it's not just me.
Looking through and/or unhauling your TBR is so nice! And we all need a good spring cleaning every now and then. I've been doing TBR challenges for a couple of years now to try and reduce it to books I've had only 1-2 years instead of 5-10. Almost there! But yeah, I also read around 30 books a year so naturally that takes some time, even if I'm not buying books at the same rate as I've done before.
30 books a year. wow. i didn't even manage one this year. but thats why i am here, i try get a bit more enthusiasm for reading.

This video was so helpful. I've been going on a book buying spree lately so this was a good reminder to slow down and actually read the books I already own 😊
I was terrified when I saw Natasha Pulley's "The watchmaker of Feligree street" because it's one of my favorite books ever. I was on edge the whole video I was just so afraid that you would unhaul it 😂😂
I do keep my physical TBR down, by only allowing myself to go book shopping once I've read at least half of my last shopping haul. Gifts and free books don't count. But my Goodreads TBR is always growing because I like to have a list of books I'm interested in. I know some of those books will never get read, but to me being on that list just means I'm interested.

4. I feel like you get stressed out too much by books. So it is great that you shortened your TBR. It's just important not to fall into that "booktube-trap" where it's all about getting new books that are popular and have pretty covers... But with no real possibility of ever reading them all.
Same!🙌🏽 I don't feel the same for my books when I first bought them and been pushed far back on my TBR list. So now I vow to only buy ones that I will immediately read. No more mindless browsing in secondhand bookshops. I'm also donating unhauled books in our Little Free Library one at a time.

I have 290 is physical books on my tbr and it makes me so happy
My physical TBR isn't too bad. Mostly because books are expensive where i live so i really have to decide where i want to spend my money. When books were cheaper i used to buy pretty much every book anyone would recommend, and i was very good at keeping up with the growing pile of unread books. But the new problem was all these books i didn't really like that much just sitting on my shelf. Now i only pick series and books i am really interested it, and i do a lot of research before buying. So i don't feel too bad about having unread books on my shelf because they're usually books from the same series out of order that i bought on sale.
Read one, buy one - that's a great option. This year I decided to buy less books too. In February I set myself a rule that I will only buy 4 more books during this year. I have particular ones picked out (two of these will come out later this year) and I also set myself a rule that I will not add new books to my Goodreads TBR list (this also contains the books I'm going to read from the library). And since I'm not adding new books to my Goodreads TBR I find it's easier to obey my book buying rule 🙂

As for Rose and Dagger, I reckon you should keep it for a year. This is only your first unhaul and since you’re unsure about what to do with it, I’d say leave it for now. If you still haven’t read it by the end of next year, maybe say goodbye to it then. However, if your TBR is really small by then, perhaps that can be an exception. Haha.

I don't have any negative feelings about my big fat TBR pile. It's probably 70+ books. I don't count them, & there are probably titles in there that I have lost interest in and will never read. And some, like your Riverkeep, are mementos and they just make me happy to have them. I don't feel compelled to read them. I know I am a bit strange.
Kudos for reducing your TBR by 65% (if my math is right) that's kind of amazing. Have wonderful New Year!

I only have a small portion of books on my TBR which is a list keep to make it easier to reserve books on the Libby app or at the library. I have kept this for years. Sometimes when I am at the bookstore and I find I have read the majority of books on display, I can refer my TBR for some ideas. I’ve recently pared down my TBR list because it was getting longer than I could read in my lifetime.

My tbr shelf is 155. I read maybe 50 books a year but that includes a few rereads (like harry potter lol) and 12 new books from a bookclub and then a few new books that I'm interested in. So I think I'm lucky if I read 30 from my tbr. Soooo 5 years AH

I 💖 the aesthetics in this video. I am a slow reader too. I enjoy collecting books but I don't do much of unhauls because I am picky when it comes to owning books. I have yet to see the movie Devil Wears Prada. I guess that is why I 💖 the book. I remember that scene where there was a request to get Harry Potter before the release date. 😂

My goodreads tbr has 97 books 😳 but thankfully my physical tbr only has 11 books. However they are all fantasy and are all around 500-1000 pages 😂

Oh no..... this video is calling me out! Haha no joke one of my top goals for the year is to read more books that are on my physical shelves. I used to do the whole buy one - read one thing, but then I found booktube and was like ‘look at all these awesome books I need!’...yeah. My problem is not so much buying a bunch of books, it’s that I go to the library quite often. Since I only have those books for a limited amount of time I tend to read those and neglect the ones on my shelves. So this year I’m going to majorly cut back my time at the library and making reading books I already own a priority.
P.S. I love the skit you did! Very fun.
I feel it's easier to unhaul books you've already read, or attempted but that are definitely not for you. Well, personally that's how it is with me. I'm building an Unhaul list out of books I'm not enjoying, though some of them I can at least take away some neat characters. Mostly characters who rarely giet any pagetime, or who are revealed to be dead 5/8ths into the book when they haven't been shown for 200 pages ancd they could've been dead allt hat time for all the reader knows because the building they were in was attacked.
The good thing is I'll have more space for newer books once these clear out, which is something. Plus it's kind of fun to think of books going through your collection like tr traffic then spreading out to new owners when you discover you don't want theose particular books to gloom up the shelves that ones you did have a good time with occupy.
As someone who speaks a second language as well, what are the benefits of reading in Dutch vs English? Like, have you read something in one language and then the other?
As another Dutchie I can say that English, while being better at conveying the earnest, draconian storytelling in it’s semantics, just isn’t as much fun as Dutch.
Dutch is one of the few languages with an integral sense of humor.
Moreover, a book in your native language will always resonate better with you, the language’s semantic limits notwithstanding.
Carlos Camejo i personally find the original one most of the time to be the best version to read (i read mainly in english and finnish, occasionally in german and japanese as well). the more i read the more i seem to notice translation errors/inconsistencies in translated books, even more so if they’re english to finnish (my native) translations. translated jokes are bad but what usually irks me is that usually with a language comes a way of thinking, a mindset, and that mindset can translate very poorly to a another language.
i would say that generally the original is best, so i mostly read in english. i feel like this is mainly the case in fantasy. i’m not often bothered by a good translation of a contemporary book, but translated fantasy (at least into dutch) always seems to lose a lot of the original (also, somehow high fantasy in dutch always reads very cringey, even when that’s its original language)
as someone from belgium, i can honestly say i much prefer reading in english. i may be a little bit biased because i loathe the dutch language, but i doubt anything would change my opinion even if it were not the case.
even though dutch is my mother tongue, i will always prefer reading in english. again, this may be biased because i am not a fan of the language whatsoever. hope this answered your question.

I don't even know if i'm happy or sad about my tbr. It exists, because I bought book/my parents bought me books during these 6 years of uni. And I distract myself easily with an internet connection and a computer (not the phone tho.) So, I have something like 40 psychology/nearby scientific fields - related books that I still have to look at. Maybe a little less, somewhat recently I started tackling that pile down.
I hate the fact that I'm easily distracted by the magicl internet. That makes me sad. Not my tbr, lol.
I have a problem with checking out too many books at a time at my library and only reading 1 or 2 before they're due back

I also stopped reading on Queen of Shadows :/ Throne of Glass was alright but promising enough, Crown of Midnight made me obsessed (can anyone guess why), Heir of Fire made me start hating the series but I forced myself through it then when I started Queen of Shadows and it didn't get any better I had to give up. May try again some day because I'm still curious how it all goes down but really disappointing, I have such a grudge now lol I could barely tell you what even happened in Heir of Fire and I remember nothing about Queen of Shadows so far

I'm beginning to transition from living with my parents by living part time with my dad. I will have some space at my mom's (and VERY limited space at my dad's) so that means I need to downsize my books which I am SO not looking forward to...
