    tbh this book deals with a lot of her actually really horrifying childhood trauma, which she's opened up about extensively online. Even if the book is meh to many it definitely is probably helping a lot of people. And this is coming from someone who is sooo not a fan of her current work in general. But yeah, her image today is greatly affected by what she went through as a child.

    Not a Thorne or poetry fan, but it does seem cool how unconventional this book is. I think the part of not correcting the spelling mistakes was actually really creative, as it kind of shows us how she sees the world. I also remember that “This is the Time I found out I had dyslexia” commercial, it was a pretty big deal at the time

    • @marialujancaruso7532
      @marialujancaruso7532 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      The thing is.. it's not creative because it's been done and over done

      @@marialujancaruso7532 that's true but consider 1. Everything ever has been done at some point 2. Some people may approach that topic for the first time through her.
      So, it's new for some people, and I think that's valid

      @@marialujancaruso7532 very possible but uh, I don’t read poetry so it seemed new to me lol. Considering her reach into music and TV I wouldn’t be surprised if this a big chunk of audience is also newer to poetry

      The aesthetics of the book are interesting- and while it might not be entirely new, I like that she brought her dyslexia experience into the actual text stylistically. It's a shame that the content itself wasn't sharper/more substantial, because conceptually, it's interesting.

      @@ludovicatirone4304 Yes.. I agree with your opinion but I still think that the way they try to sell it (as something so unseen) is very misleading. In the 1920s people wrote like that. That's all I meant :)

    I'm sorry but this book is just an edgy diary, i don't know what perception she wanted to change, because it did nothing for me; she has trauma and depression so she went wild after being a disney star, nothing new... it should be called an art project and a cash grab, if she wanted to change what people think about her or how they are perceiving her, she could've do that without the paywall. We have the internet, after all (and if i'm correct her main source of income is her only fans? i don't really know what is she doing, but she has an internet presence). I don't want to seem heartless, but she isn't really "relatable" or anything to me. Nevertheless, i hope she finds some good therapist because she, for sure, can afford it.

    • @biegebythesea6775
      @biegebythesea6775 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      But she is relatable to someone, so it's right that she speaks and expresses herself. Every writer, artist etc. should should probably see a therapist but they should also create.

    • @kryndolyn
      @kryndolyn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Why is it that someone needs to be relatable in order for the story they want to speak have merit? I know it can help with identifying and understanding the text, this relatability to the author, but I personally don't think it's required. I do enjoy your take tho on how she has attempted to change her public image.

      And is zendaya more relatable or something lol I know you didn’t mention her but a lot of people compare them. They’re rich celebrities, who are known around the world. When are these people literally ever that relatable lol

    not a fan of bella thorne at all but i think this wasnt meant to be seen as a "poetry" book per se and more as vent art in the shape of a book. its quite interesting and i can easily see the appeal. its more of an abstract art piece of the emo kid at the back of your class who just got a type writer and published a book which is quite interesting

      That's the argument we've heard for every half-baked, depth-less, social media platform driven "poet" for the last 5 years; at a certain point we need to recognize they are just muddying the once rich waters of quality poetry.

    Okay, first, I REALLY hope that quote from Marilyn Manson wasn't actually from him and was a joke because if it wasn't...oof...yeah...no...I hate it.
    That out of the way, I'm sorry, but I get the feeling A LOT of the time with Bella that she's profiting off her own trauma, which is fine and all, make that coin, but there needs to come a point when you stop and get real help, because publishing vent art isn't a replacement for ACTUAL healing and it doesn't seem to me like she's getting any one on one therapy which she clearly needs. Not to mention, what perception is she really changing with this? What opinions of her is she seeing go around that we aren't, because the examples you showed just backed up what I already knew about her--she's someone with dyslexia and who has been through some rough shit, but instead of healing and growing from it, she's allowed it to make her an edgequeen desperate to prove how messed up she is. We get it Bella. You've been through trauma. But is this ACTUALLY helping you? Is this ACTUALLY helping anyone? Does it ACTUALLY help when you normalize, even glamorize, drowning in your trauma? I just...I don't know. I think I'm just tired of Bella and people like her making being miserable a brand. It's not helping them and it's not helping anyone else. That's why I really appreciated Demi Lovato's series (which wasn't behind a paywall, by the way) because she ended it talking about getting help, talking about and showing how there are better ways to live your life. Everyone deserves to be happy, so why should we be holding up people who seem to be actively trying not to be.
