It’s a great investment in my opinion. Will save you time and make your camping experience enjoyable. At SPI, the winds are crazy and this design is perfect to resist them.
I was living out of a T3, setting up & breaking down every 2 wks. last year (June - Sept) until both of the mesh door's zippers broke after experiencing massive dust devils (& 65 mph wind gusts) on the Alvord Desert playa in SE Oregon. I'm not certain the dust was the only cause of the malfunctioning zippers - maybe a coincidence? The reason being, maybe it's in the design of the doors. If you'll notice the stress occurring at the apex of the curve, due to the adjacent hub, especially if staked out. The tent was replaced under the 1 yr. warranty, with a T4 Overland Edition - the T3 was out of stock and being redesigned, so I paid for the upgrade, as I was anxious to get back on the road. So, Feb. through May I'm in the T4 O.E., and camping in the Coconino NF near Flagstaff, AZ... no dust devils there, but one of the mesh door zippers broke, again. Luckily the 1 yr. from the original T3 purchase was still in effect, so I was able to get a replacement. Of course I had to drive back to a "home base" to accept delivery. Oh yeah, they shipped the replacement to an old address (even though they had the correct address AND CONFIRMED IT). So they had to ship out another. Other than that, all customer service has been great. To close, would I buy another? No, likely not. I've lowered my expectations on any tent surviving long-term, constant use. Especially a nylon tent, as the UV fades & degrades the material. Have I enjoyed it otherwise? Yes. It's a good value for "normal" occasional use. If one is planning long term use, I'd suggest a high quality canvas tent, at greater expense. You get what you pay for. I'll head back out shortly with a new T4 O.E., knowing I'll need to come up with a more long term solution (something self contained, like a big van or box truck).
Hi Don, thanks for the valuable feedback. Your long term and vast experience really pushed the tent to its limits. I’ve been using the tent almost exclusively at South Padre for a couple of years. Although I only use it a couple of times a month, it’s held up perfectly without a single issue. I’ve heard a couple of people having issues with the rods that hold the rain fly in, but they’ve been replaced by the company. Looks like you might need something more robust from what is sounds like. Be safe out there and thanks for watching and sharing 🎥🎬👍🏽
@@CoastalGX Thanks for the response, sir! No doubt that all of us experience quality control issues with products we purchase. Hi there! As you can imagine, the sea breeze can really pick up at times. I always use my guy lines and I’ve never had a wall collapse on me. Some of my friends started doing the same cause the wind collapsed theirs when they didn’t use the lines.

I appreciate the support! There are many good people out there, but the negativity is what tends to grasp attention most of the time (unfortunately.) Thank you for watching and I hope to one day visit PINS.
At 6.1" tall and 278pounds, I'm a pretty big guy. At almost 62 years old, I alos love the fact that I could fully stand up in one of these. I have a gran teton xxl cot that would defintly weight it down enough so it wouldn't blow around. Question, have you ever set it up without using tie down stakes at all. ...and if not, do you think it would hold up tom mild/moderate windos without staking out????
I just returned from a 5 day trip to Big Bend national park. The temps were freezing overnight and the winds were dead. I staked the main tent, but didn’t bother with the guy lines. The coast is VERY different (obviously) and the wind is very strong. I always stake everything down at the island. I took both my kids to Big Bend so I feel it would have been better if I was using the T4Plus since I was also using a propane heater buddy inside the tent.
I now have the gazelle t4 plus (double the size.) I never fully detached the bottom. I would detach the Velcro in sections and broom out excess sand/dirt that way.
I personally wouldn’t. I carry it on the roof top and it’s been exposed to all sorts of conditions. I don’t see the need to keep a water proof tent protected from water.
My brother, I'm thinking about pulling the plug on the new T4 gazelle overland edition tent. How does it hold up in coastal high winds. I go to PINS alot where winds can be an issue.
Excellent question! So last year I camped out for 5 days straight at the east cut. That’s right across the southernmost point of PINS. I went through a couple of cold fronts and then a southeastern storm. Not a single issue. Just make sure you use the tethers that come with it. Also, we are planning a two night stay at PINS in October so we will all be using Gazelles.
Rain fly goes on before you pop the roof. Do it while it’s collapsed. Then pop it and secure the sides. Always be careful at the beach cause the wind sucks. Make sure you stake it down.
How does it handle the high wind from the Gulf coast? Looks pretty cool. Just wonder how it handles the wind. That's a pretty solid tent and it will definitely be my next one to purchase. Thanks for this great details video. I'm also glad nothing happened to it.
I’ve been using it in many different situations. It has helped me get through several cold fronts while at the beach. You know how bad that can be and that tent can take it. It’s easy to clean and very durable. Watch my latest video and you’ll see what I’m talking about. 👍🏽🎥🎬
