    Thanks to The Eldritch Archives for providing this fine narration of a standout Robert E Howard tale sans requiring channel membership as certain other sites insist upon. Making "The Gods of Bal-Sagoth" and related content available to the masses free of charge is a commendable and much-appreciated public service. Well done, and again, thank you.
    As another listener (GrimDarkHalfOff) astutely noted, if one enjoys this kind of humorous adventure through a glass darkly, Smith's "The Seven Geases" represents an apex moment for the genre & is well worth a read (or listen).
    The Seven Geases", part of Smith's Hyperborean Cycle of stories, is a an epic tale of comic rejection by a series of Lovecraft-ian entities comprised of a number of familiar archetypes (including the Archetypes), each passing the protagonist down the line.
    As per usual, Smiths's use of written English to convey detail approaches exquisite, all the tropes you'd expect are in-place and well-utilized and the story is, in short, an absolute must-read (or listen as it's available in audio format on several sites, including one or two featuring better-than-average narration).
    Although it's in poor taste for one to mention a competing channel, hopefully TEA can forgive me for recommending HorrorBabble's production of "The Seven Geases" as it's probably the finest free narration available at present (of course, preferences vary - taste in narration tone, pacing, and overall style is subjective but I think most will agree that it's a good version of "The Seven Geases").
    Added bonus: Learning the correct (one assumes) pronunciation of "gease" in addition to its meaning if one was previously unfamiliar with this very old-school term representing a curse or a an arrangement trading service of some sort for a boon be it acquisition of a desired attribute or favorable outcome in some area.
    The Hyperborean Cycle is CA Smith at, in my humble opinion, his best, and any fans of his work specifically or comic adventure tales in general would be well-advised to explore these tales as they represent some of Smith's finest stories.
    Again, thank you The Eldritch Archives for providing this narration of "The Gods of Bal-Sagoth" free of charge. By providing this material you're doing a great public service by making high culture available to the masses and helping to fulfill the promise of the Internet as the Great Library of our times and your efforts are well-appreciated. In short: Good job!

    If you really love dark humor you should really check out Clark Ashton Smith’s Hyperborean cycle of stories. In one comedic focus is given to a depressed wizard because he didn’t get to torture anyone that day. In another (The 7 Geases) a man is told that he is too ugly to kill by an Eldritch entity known for eating its own young, not a real person by the first humans and too useless to be killed by Serpent Men.

    • @michaelkottler
      @michaelkottler ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely. "The Seven Geases" is a Smith classic: An amazing tale of comic rejection by a series of Lovecraft-ian entities comprised of a number of familiar archetypes (including the Archetypes), each passing our poor protagonist down the line. As with all his works, the detail is exquisite, all the tropes you'd expect are in-place and well-utilized and the story is, in short, an absolute must-read (or listen as it's available to hear on several sites, some featuring more desirable narration than others). But yeah: The Hyperborean Cycle is CA Smith at, in my humble opinion, his best.
      EDIT: BTW, "GrimDarkHalfOff" is a wickedly clever username effectively reflecting the genre and to a lesser extent Warhammer 40k. I suspected that w/a name like that you're a serious literature enthusiast whose gotta' have a channel and sure enough, you do, and it's full of great content so color me oh-so-subscribed.

    Ich habe mich bei der Erwähnung von älteren Filmen etwas gefragt: Hollywood hat doch immer eine Botschaft in seinen Werken gehabt,z.B. in den 80ern Kommunisten, Sowjets und Drogendealer. Mich hat das nicht gestört, weil ich da nie wirklich "reale" Charaktere vor mir gesehen habe. Allerdings wurde diese Werbung für den American Dream in meiner Erinnerung schon damals kritisch gesehen. Jetzt frage ich mich was sich genau verändert hat? Bin ich jetzt einfach auf die Seite gewechselt die Hollyood als neue böse Mächte auserkoren hat (weis, männlich, Heterogenität, Familienvater....) oder hat sich die Art von Hollywood geändert?

      @@andythegoatman694 An excellent suggestion especially as I am largely unfamiliar with Howard's Bran Mak Mon work and would enjoy a narration of the same. Couldn't help but notice the abundance of protagonist's in Howard's and related authors works featuring the archetypal hero represented by Bran Mok Man, in this case, a king of the Picts struggling to defend his people against the Romans et al. Sounds promising and again, an Eldritch Archives narration would be welcome.

    I always enjoy Conan tales for many reasons, one of which I THOUGHT was their comedic element. But perhaps his descriptions of The Cimmerian slapping that butt of all his leading ladies (who are invariably and inexplicably nude for lengthy periods of the stories), his homicidal response to the civilized innovations which seek to tame his wild heart (the criminal justice system foolishly attempting to compel him into betraying his countryman) and other Conanic traits...perhaps they are not meant to be funny.
    I would pay you for the fine Reading, but you see, I PAY MY WAY WITH STEEL!
